Current requests for increase in protection level

[edit]
Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Reason: Former pastor who confessed to sexual abuse. The man himself may not deserve protection, but his page does, as it has recently suffered a fair bit of the sort of emotionally charged edit-warring that would be expected in this situation. — HelpMyUnbelief (talk) 20:44, 4 October 2024 (UTC)

Reason: Temporary semi-protection: IP account edit warring and re-adding questionable BLP content despite being advised to use the talk page to discuss. Given the the subject of the article is described as intersex, this might even fall under WP:CTOP and need 1RR at some point if the TSP doesn't work. In addition to the PP, the IP's diffs might need to be revdeleted per BLP. -- Marchjuly (talk) 10:17, 5 October 2024 (UTC)

Current requests for reduction in protection level

[edit]
Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

  • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
  • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
  • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
  • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.
Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Reason: Three years ago, this page was extended-confirmed protected due to an edit war. I talked to the protecting admin and stated that there is zero chance for him to unprotect the article. Would consider downgrading the protection to semi. ScarletViolet tc 11:46, 4 October 2024 (UTC)

Current requests for edits to a protected page

[edit]
Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

  • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
  • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
  • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
  • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
  • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

Autopatrolled

[edit]

GnocchiFan has made 5,000+ edits this year alone including seven Good Articles. They make extensive use of WMF Library to improve sourcing and prose. I believe they are both an excellent editor and also communicator, evident at sensitive article topics at 1984 anti-Sikh riots and Gender and sexual minorities in the Ottoman Empire. In short, let's reduce NPP backlog by giving them auto-patrolled status. ~ 🦝 Shushugah (he/him • talk) 12:11, 20 September 2024 (UTC)

Also worth mentioning GnocchiFan created 84 non redirect articles. One article was deleted Sophie Ottaway 8-months ago. ~ 🦝 Shushugah (he/him • talk) 12:25, 21 September 2024 (UTC)

@TParis: I was just taking a look at this when you accepted the request, but I have my concerns here. The single source tags on Martha Bohachevsky-Chomiak and Elizabeth Neesom are valid, and Elisabeth Nilsson (lawyer) doesn't demonstrate the subject's notability very well. They have some very good-looking articles, but I feel that the basis of quality for their creations needs to be a bit higher before they're ready for the autopatrolled flag. Courtesy ping for GnocchiFan; I hope this feedback is useful for your writing in the future. TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 19:36, 3 October 2024 (UTC)

I don't really hold the same reservations that you do. There is a systematic bias against covering women in history and it's even greater outside of western media. There has been an effort to increase coverage of women and I feel these two articles are geared towards that goal. It's easy to write an internet article about a living person that recently does a thing and get it published. It only costs bits and bytes. But sources existing in the early 20th century or earlier, about women, when publishing was costlier rings stronger with regards to GNG than a single article on the internet. Overall, I'm confident this user will create encyclopedic content without significant errors. None of us are error free.--v/r - TP 20:27, 3 October 2024 (UTC)

Seems to be an experienced content creator whose creations are no longer in need of input from NPP. I saw my username on the Wikipedia database reports and found out I was eligible for the autopatrolled privilege. I've made lots of articles about Indian politicians recently and will continue to do so in the future. I'm a trusted user with lots of rights including NPP and fully familiar with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. I also have the redirect autopatrol pseudoright, and I'd like to request the autopatrolled right in order to reduce the reviewing workload of new page patrollers. I have almost 25,000 edits, of which 98.9% are still live and have created 49 articles of which only one has been deleted, and that was a naming error on my part. I am a member of New Page Patrol as of September 2024. I am familiar with Wikipedia guidelines for both creation and deletion of articles. I would like to request autopatrol rights. Demt1298 (talk) 15:13, 3 October 2024 (UTC)

Done, thank you for your contributions. – Joe (talk) 12:17, 4 October 2024 (UTC)

I am requesting autopatrol rights as I have been an active contributor since my account was unblocked. During this time, I have created multiple articles that adhere to Wikipedia's content policies and guidelines. My contributions focus on history and education, and I take care to ensure thorough referencing and proper formatting in every article.

I believe autopatrol rights would help reduce the workload for patrollers, as my work consistently meets Wikipedia's standards. I would appreciate your consideration of this request. TheBirdsShedTears (talk) 17:00, 3 October 2024 (UTC)

I'm sorry but the UPE concerns raised last year will disqualify you from this permission for the foreseeable future.  Not done. – Joe (talk) 12:20, 4 October 2024 (UTC)
@Joe Roe: My account was compromised. I didn't violate any policy of the Wikipedia since registered on this website. TheBirdsShedTears (talk) 12:28, 4 October 2024 (UTC)
Okay, but a) I have no way to confirm this (maybe @Xaosflux: can help with this?) and b) this is a sensitive right when it comes to UPE, I'm not sure we should be taking the risk of it happening again. – Joe (talk) 12:41, 4 October 2024 (UTC)
While not definitive, a potential account compromise does seem to have occurred between August and September of 2023. As it has been a year since then, if no new concerns have been raised since then I suggest this request be evaluated based on the article creations since then. — xaosflux Talk 15:08, 4 October 2024 (UTC)

Confirmed

[edit]

The reason i wanted to ask to be confimed is that i was on the MF DOOM page and noticed that his name wasnt capitlized, he has stated many times in songs and other media that his name is spelled with "all caps", eventhis spotify page is capitlized so i was planning on correcting it but needed to either be autoconfimed or confirmed and i am sending this request for that reason. Mlsfcx (talk) 11:58, 2 October 2024 (UTC)

Not done – Hi, and thank you for creating an account to edit Wikipedia. Although I fully understand your desire to dive right in, many of our articles are semi-protected because they are controversial, prone to vandalism, or other reasons. As a new editor with few edits, it might be wise to discuss your edits on the article talkpage in order to gain consensus for your edits, and then use {{Edit semi-protected}} to request the edit be performed. I only recommend this until you are used to the challenges of reliable sources, the biographies of living persons policy, and other similar policies. The good news is that fewer than 5 percent of Wikipedia articles are protected; this means that more than 95 percent of the articles can use your help right now! stwalkerster (talk) 12:47, 2 October 2024 (UTC)

Page mover

I often move poorly-titled pages to more appropriate titles, usually to make them more WP:CONCISE, specific, neutral, or to correct spelling and transliterations. I also revert undiscussed moves in line with WP:RMUM. I would greatly appreciate having the ability to manage this myself. Skitash (talk) 21:43, 30 September 2024 (UTC)

I'd like to get this right to delete unnecessary redirects (i.e. move pages over existing single revision redirects regardless of target). Additionally, I would also like to try to harmonize some pages of Spanish municipalities with the name of the country and the province (when necessary) instead of other subnational units (such as comarca). Moreover if a double denomination exists in some cases, I shall use the slash with spaces in between to enhance visual effect of different linguistic nomenclatures. However if an English form is more relevant I shall use it instead of double and local denominations. Other than that I could help elsewhere to move pages if necessary. Thank you, Nuvolet (talk)

Pending changes reviewer

[edit]

Hello hello, I have been a Wikipedian for well over 4 months now, and I feel that I have learned a great many things about the site in terms of editing, content, policies, and conduct that I could have never imagined beforehand. If given this right, I humbly commit to using it to the utmost competent and fair / legitimate nature that I possibly can. Thank you Aliy Dawut (talk) 02:52, 13 September 2024 (UTC)

I have been contributing to pages for three years now, with prior experience in patrolling edit filter log. I would like to get reviewer rights so I can contribute to Wikipedia in more ways than I am able to, presently, and help with the backlog. Since my last request in July, I've been making a track record of communicating collegially with other editors, in my talk page and elsewhere. I hope you'll consider me. Thank you. — ‎‎‎hhypeboyh 💬✏️ 23:11, 13 September 2024 (UTC)

I've been doing RC Patrolling (as a part of Anti-Vandalism) on Wikipedia for a while now, and I think that having the Pending Changes reviewer permission could be a good idea - there have been numerous instances involving a pending changes edit that I look at while looking through Special:RecentChanges that i wanted to accept/deny/etc, and i feel that this permission would be beneficial for my efficeincy. DM5Pedia 04:34, 22 September 2024 (UTC)

Hi! I believe that I'd be a good Pending Changes Reviewer, as I have a good amount of time on my hands, and can do monotonous tasks, like denying obvious vandalism, and the like. I meet, what I believe are all the requirements for this right, and humbly ask to receive this privilege. Thanks in advance! Legendbird (talk) 09:06, 23 September 2024 (UTC)

Reason for requesting pending changes reviewer rights: I am an Wikipedian for more than three years and part of various wikiprojects I need permission to expand my works on Wikipedia and also to observe Wikipedia articles. Cactinites (talk) 15:28, 23 September 2024 (UTC)

I've been editing since 2015 and primarily work on articles related to politics and history. I have experience with reverting vandalism, verifying content complies with policies like V, NPOV and BLP, and I think I can help maintain the quality of articles like those in my watchlist by reviewing pending changes, which I've successfully requested for pages at RPP multiple times in the past, including in August 2021, May 2023, this January and this August. ‑‑Neveselbert (talk · contribs · email) 22:07, 1 October 2024 (UTC)

Hi! I've been using Wikipedia on-and-off since 2020, but I'm starting to become more active. I'm familiar with the guidelines, as well. Thx56 (talk) 21:28, 2 October 2024 (UTC)

Rollback

[edit]

I have been working to revert vandalism for some time now, mostly patrolling Recent changes. I have used Twinkle and RedWarn to revert vandalism and warn vandals. Rollback rights would make it easier for me to revert obvious vandalism. Thanks. Charliehdb (talk) 10:57, 28 September 2024 (UTC)

I see that you are failing to consistently warn editors when you revert their edits (e.g. 1, 2, 3). Why? It's important to leave a notification for every revert you make. Are you aware that we have tools such as Twinkle or Ultraviolet that make this extremely easy? -Fastily 08:27, 30 September 2024 (UTC)
@Fastily: Thanks for pointing it out. I assure you that I will warn all vandals from now on. I hope you give me Rollback rights. Thanks. Charliehdb (talk) 12:40, 30 September 2024 (UTC)
Please ensure that you are always leaving warnings. I can't stress enough the importance of not biting the newcomers; if you find yourself reverting good faith edits, then it's especially important to notify the editor. If you don't want to leave a template warning, that's completely fine, but you do need to leave a talk page message explaining why you reverted the edit. Moving forward, could you please make a promise to leave warnings/notifications for every revert? -Fastily 01:08, 1 October 2024 (UTC)
@Fastily: Offcourse, I will leave warnings/notifications for every revert. Charliehdb (talk) 13:39, 1 October 2024 (UTC)
Great, thanks for confirming. I'm also a bit concerned by your recent block for edit warring. How have you learned from this experience, and in your own words, can you explain why your actions leading up to the block were inappropriate? Also, courtesy ping for @Bbb23 -Fastily 20:29, 3 October 2024 (UTC)
I don't think Charlie is ready for rollback. Besides responding to your request for an explanation, I think they should wait until they have a better track record, including not edit-warring and giving people warnings.--Bbb23 (talk) 23:55, 3 October 2024 (UTC)
@Fastily: I was blocked on 5 July 2024, due to edit warring. But after that, I have learned more about wikipedia policies. As you can see, in my recent contributions I haven't been in any edit warring and was notifying the users about the reverts. Thanks. Charliehdb (talk) 03:09, 4 October 2024 (UTC)
