MDMA

[edit]

Why is MDMA absent from this list? It's class A, is it not? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.108.136.137 (talk) 01:08, 19 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

MDMA is controlled by [Class A] section (c) but I am surprised it's not included by name as it was banned very early on. It's not under methyltenamphetamine either. I will investigate further. Testem (talk) 10:39, 12 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
MDMA is not mentioned by name in the legislation but is notable enough that it should be named here. Thank you Testem (talk) 21:02, 6 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Cathinone

[edit]

Why is Cathinone listed as both class A and class C. Can someone authoritatively check and edit please. —Preceding unsigned comment added by PuzzleScot (talkcontribs) 11:25, 5 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Resolved
This appears to have been fixed. Testem (talk) 10:39, 12 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Other controlled drugs

[edit]

I believe there are other drugs which are, in fact, controlled
Although not 'controlled' within the meaning of the MDA, they are controlled under the Medicines Act
The article should make this clear
Or perhaps the article should be at Drugs controlled by the UK Misuse of Drugs Act, with the current address as a disambiguation page
The fact that a drug is not listed under the MDA does not mean that it is perfectly legal in all circumstances or that criminal penalties are not linked to unlicensed use

I have alter the intro, to make it consistent with a move to Drugs controlled by the UK Misuse of Drugs Act

You were correct and this was done Testem (talk) 21:01, 6 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary Class Orders

[edit]

Surely there should be information about drugs classified temporarily in this section? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.28.100.2 (talk) 15:03, 18 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Seems like a good idea. Testem (talk) 10:39, 12 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Availability of the original and up-to-date full text of the legislation.

[edit]

Though the article appears to be copied and pasted, for the most part, I cannot find a complete copy of the legislation online. For example, paragraph (ba) in the Class A section is listed as paragraph (c) in online sources, but new legislation is referring to it as (ba). Testem (talk) 10:42, 12 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

MDMA still absent

[edit]

3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) AKA Ecstasy is still absent from this list? It is a Class A controlled drug. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rouje (talkcontribs) 15:47, 29 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

MDMA has been covered by the phenethylamine legislation since 1977
but I have named it specifically in the article anyway because it is extremely
notable

Drugs absent

[edit]

These compounds from the steroids changes are generally absent from this page.Testem (talk) 20:43, 6 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Too much of this is a copy of the act itself

[edit]

I feel this page is very hard to read. The sections on the three classes are literal copies of the relevant legislation, and this is not very useful. Each section should remind again of what the class is meant to mean, what general categories of drugs it contains, and only later should list the substances, preferably in a more readable way. MartinoK (talk) 11:58, 24 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. It's unacceptable to have an article where the majority of it consists of a direct quote of swathes of legislation; it's ridiculous. This should all be deleted and summarised. Richard75 (talk) 20:47, 4 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Actually I think I should nominate this article for deletion or merger. Richard75 (talk) 21:13, 4 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Nomination here. Richard75 (talk) 21:34, 4 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

I'm trying to (grok https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1971/38/schedule/2/part/II i.e. the relevant UK law) to determine if prescribed dronabinol is illegal in the UK.
My thinking:

When trying to figure it out, I'm had trouble grokking the relevant UK law. In particular, I find

2A.Any ester or ether of cannabinol or of a cannabinol derivative or of a substance for the time being specified in paragraph 1(ac), (c), (ca)] or (d)] of this Part of this Schedule.

a bit much. I don't think it describes anything in dronabinol, but I could be mising something.

I can say that in the UK, cannabis is illegal, but dronabinol doesn't contain cannabis or cannabis resin or cannabinol or any of the other things mentioned in the statute - which I think means dronabinol is legal. It contains synthetic THC. In the US, prescribed dronabinol is legal, though cannabis is - at the federal level - illegal. Does the UK make the same distinction? It seems so. Dronabinol is also FDA but not MHRA - approved as a pharmaceutical. I can find no explicit mention of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) or "cannabinoid" in the UK code. The UK code mentions cannabinol (CBN)which is not THC.
Just looking for someone to look over my argument and/or provide further info (e.g. case law). RudolfoMD (talk) 01:46, 18 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Jamesy0627144 would you be able to help me out with this, or do you just do US stuff? RudolfoMD (talk) 01:44, 20 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Not sure I completely understand but I try to focus on US policy only and am not familiar with the legality of dronabinol in the UK.--Jamesy0627144 (talk) 04:57, 22 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No worries. I tried to clarify. And looking at it with fresh eyes but no 3O a few days later, it still reads to me as dronabinol is UK-legal. RudolfoMD (talk) 07:22, 22 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I believe dronabinol would be illegal in the UK, coming under the 2016 Psychoactive Substances Act 87.114.26.14 (talk) 03:17, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
