Background

[edit]
Rocco in 2011
Riordan in 2007

This Edit-A-Thon is hosted by the Rick Riordan Task Force, a small subproject of WikiProject Novels. Our mission is to improve pages related to the works of author Rick Riordan. Riordan has written over 30 bestselling novels, including the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, which has also been turned into a film and musical. John Rocco, this event's other focal point, has been the illustrator for most of Rick Riordan's books, noted especially for his cover art and full-page illustrations in Percy Jackson's Greek Gods. Rocco is also a children's book author himself; his most famous works are Blackout and Swim that Rock.

This Edit-A-Thon is the sequel to RRTF's John Rocco Edit-A-Thon of July 2017, which garnered a lot of positive attention for our small task force. In particular, we liked seeing things from an outsider's point of view during the Edit-A-Thon, and decided to host a larger event this year. Our winner last year was member 22mikpau.

Blurb

[edit]

Announcing RRTF's second annual Edit-A-Thon! The event is being held June 23 through July 28 in honor of author Rick Riordan's June birthday and author/illustrator John Rocco's July birthday. The focus of the edit-a-thon will be on expanding Wikipedia's coverage of these two authors in an encyclopedic manner.

The Edit-A-Thon is open to all Wikipedia users - you do not need any experience with Riordan, Rocco, or RRTF! Help is needed in a variety of areas, including referencing, copyediting, and new page creation. Prizes will be given for first, second, and third place and will consist of a barnstar and Amazon gift card. To enter, please visit this page. The winners will be announced by July 31.

More information on rules and scoring can also be found on the contest page. Questions about the subject material should be left on the RRTF forums. Questions about the contest should be left on the contest Q&A. Good luck and happy editing! -- 2ReinreB2 (talk) 22:34, 23 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

All Wikipedia users in good standing are eligible to enter. In order to have your points counted, you must follow the instructions under the Entrants section below. Users do not need to be members of RRTF or WikiProject Novels to enter, and preference will not be given to those who are members.

RRTF reserves the right to disqualify editors who violate Wikipedia policy (via sockpuppetry, harassment, or the like) while working on the Edit-A-Thon. A warning will be given first.

Scoring

[edit]

Scoring will follow the points system outlined below.

  • 5 points - page creation, successful GA nomination, GA or AfC review of relevant page, new file upload, new template
  • 4 points - content addition over 300 words (incl. to Drafts), copyedit to a section that is over 500 words long, misc. page improvements that raise the page quality one level
  • 3 points - adding one new quality reference, copyedit to section 200-500 words long
  • 2 points - vandalism undo, successful recruitment of one new member or supporter for RRTF
  • Note: Undoing your own vandalism does not earn points. You may earn points for joining RRTF, but only once.
  • 1 point - a small edit such as a grammar correction, small copyedit, formatting fix, assessing a page with the RRTF article template, or filling in empty parameters in an infobox.

Edits made or links posted after the July 28 deadline will not be counted. RRTF also reserves the right not to count edits deemed as vandalism, fancruft, or otherwise nonconstructive.

If you don't think your edit fits into one of these categories or would like to contest its classification, please message the WP:NV coordinator. They are flexible and happy to award points where points are due.

Tasks

[edit]

Users and members: feel free to add things to the to do list to help the project focus on areas in need.

Maintenance of task-force

[edit]

WP:RRTF is always looking for ways to make its pages more user-friendly -- you can help!

  • Participate in the Outreach Program:
    • Inform other editors and projects of your membership and what the task-force does.
      • Send a {{subst:RRinvite}} to Wikipedians you think might have an interest in the project.
      • Make sure every new or returning member gets a {{subst:RRwel}} on their personal talk page.
  • Article style and oversight:
    • Develop a standard format for articles, and create project pages to describe this formatting. (Use WP:NV's pages as a starting point.)
    • Develop a quality and importance classification guideline, and appropriate project subpages, similar to Wikipedia:WikiProject Novels/Assessment.
    • Consider creating a Rick Riordan portal. (Keep in mind this previous attempt and these guidelines, and remember to start a discussion.)
