Victor Feldman

[edit]

What instruments did he play? The article dont mention it.--92.28.66.141 (talk) 07:48, 5 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Piano, vibraphone, marimba, drums, percussion. (Possibly others too, but those are the ones I've heard him play on recordings). ---Sluzzelin talk 07:53, 5 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
(and add electric piano and keyboards, as I just saw while researching your next question, on Dark Orchid. ---Sluzzelin talk 02:22, 6 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sammy Nestico band

[edit]

Who played bass on Sammy Nestico's Dark Orchid album?--92.28.66.141 (talk) 08:36, 5 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Discogs doen't list the full personnel, only the featured soloists, but it looks like it's Chuck Berghofer, according to all about jazz. ---Sluzzelin talk 02:20, 6 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
According to another site [1], Chuck Berghofer only plays bass on tracks 5 - 8 (the allaboutjazz link only mentioned him for one of those tracks, so my bad entirely). The first four tracks of the album seem to feature Neil Stubenhaus and Reinie Press on "bass" (both probably on bass guitar). ---Sluzzelin talk 02:40, 6 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Tron - Program Physical Appearance

[edit]

In the Tron universe, if a programs appearance is that of the user that wrote/ created it, than why don't the programs in the Tron System all look like Kevin Flynn ? Scotius (talk) 11:09, 5 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Probably because the studio execs thought that would affect the movie's potential earnings by way of a bunch of the same guy being less popular with the average ticket buyer. 20.137.18.50 (talk) 18:54, 5 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Tron Legacy takes place on a different grid than the original movie. A lot of those old conventions don't seem to apply to the new grid. APL (talk) 04:09, 6 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The Time Machine - Morlock Cannibals ?

[edit]

If the Eloi and the Morlocks are different species then how are the Morlocks Cannibals ? Scotius (talk) 11:21, 5 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

See Cannibalism--92.28.70.33 (talk) 12:32, 5 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If cannibalism is eating members of ones own species, then is someone a cannibal if they eat a member of a different species ? Scotius (talk) 12:45, 5 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

By definition, no.--Shantavira|feed me 12:56, 5 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

So why are the Morlocks referred as cannibals ? Is it simply because of the act of eating Eloi flesh ?Scotius (talk) 12:58, 5 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Often the concept of "cannibalism" is extended to a member of a sentient/sapient species eating another sentient/sapient creature, particularly if both are human-like. (Mainly in science fiction, as present-day earth doesn't have any other human-like species widely regarded enough as sentient/sapient to meet the criteria.) The reverse is also commonly true. Wild animals eating other wild animals of the same species isn't often commonly referred to as cannibalism, even though it may meet the technical definition requirements. -- 174.31.196.47 (talk) 15:33, 5 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

:It isnt just eating ones own species: I quote from the article: Cannibalism (from Caníbales, the Spanish name for the Carib people,[1] a West Indies tribe formerly well known for their practice of cannibalism[2]) is the act or practice of humans eating the flesh of other human beings. It is also called anthropophagy. A person who practices cannibalism is called a cannibal. While the expression "cannibalism" has origins in the act of humans eating other humans, it has extended into zoology to mean the act of any animal consuming members of its own type or kind, including the consumption of mates. --92.28.81.206 (talk) 19:06, 5 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Are the Morlocks and Eloi different species though? Clarityfiend (talk) 21:56, 5 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, Wells _does_ refer to them as different species ("The Upper-world people might once have been the favoured aristocracy, and the Morlocks their mechanical servants: but that had long since passed away. The two species that had resulted from the evolution of man were sliding down towards, or had already arrived at, an altogether new relationship."), but _doesn't_ describe the Morlocks as "cannibals" - the relevant passage is: "[Man's] prejudice against human flesh is no deep-seated instinct. And so these inhuman sons of men——! I tried to look at the thing in a scientific spirit. After all, they were less human and more remote than our cannibal ancestors of three or four thousand years ago." (Chapter VII for both references). Tevildo (talk) 22:53, 5 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Is that a double unspaced em-dash I see before me? Thank the Lord that we've thrown off some of the vices of our ancestors. Tevildo (talk) 22:54, 5 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

baroque music

How does a gigue anglaise differ from a gigue francaise? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 109.152.65.207 (talk) 13:49, 5 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

According to our article, the gigue originated in Britain and was imported into France in the mid-17th century. --Thomprod (talk) 17:01, 5 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

movie title

[edit]

Would like the name of a movie, probably from the 1980s. A 15 year old teenager is wrongly accused of murder (murdering his father I believe)and instead of going to jail for 25 years he is aged 25 years. He spends the movie trying to prove his innocence and becomes romantically involved with a woman. At the end he has to decide if he will stay at this age and be with the woman, or if he will go back to the age of 15.

Gore Kung-Fu

[edit]

As an American child growing up in the late 70s early 80s, Saturday mornings often brought films I can only describe as "gore" Kung-Fu. (Basically, tons of blood combined with b-level quality and budget... arms and heads being chopped off regularly, cheesy squirting blood effects, etc.) The movies I have been able to find have a small amount of gore, but nothing like I remember. The effect is captured somewhat in movies like Kill Bill or Ninja Assassin--but nothing compares to the low-budget originals. Does anyone know where I can find the trail of these original gore Kung-Fu movies? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Liversounds (talkcontribs) 19:12, 5 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Riki-Oh: The Story of Ricky would likely be of interest to you. It's got some major gore/kung fu violence--GroovySandwich 09:13, 6 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

What is the most expensive porn movie made in this year in 2011?

[edit]

What is the most expensive porn movie made in this year in 2011? Neptunekh2 (talk) 22:22, 5 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Since a) we are barely over half-way into 2011, b) porn movies are frequently made clandestinely and often illegally by c) criminals who actively conceal their financial affairs, this question is, I suggest, essentially unanswerable. {The poster formerly known as 87.81.230.195} 90.197.66.180 (talk) 23:25, 5 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
MOST high-production pornography is not underground nor illegal anymore. It's actually one of the largest industries in California. They won't have this year's stats up yet, but looking at awards from previous years might give you a ballpark idea. HominidMachinae (talk) 23:47, 5 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The film that the OP is looking for may not have even come out of California. Private Media Group isn't a strictly US company and they put out some high production value films. I don't have an answer for the OP though, sorry. The numbers may be rather hard to track down as one of the largest companies, Vivid Entertainment, is privately owned and therefore doesn't necessarily have to release production values. Dismas|(talk) 02:20, 6 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
[citation needed] on HominidMachinae's claim that porn is one of the largest industries in California. I don't think you are very familiar with the economy of California with a statement like that. Comet Tuttle (talk) 07:00, 10 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
This Ain't Avatar XXX is allegedly the most expensive movie Hustler has ever made. Vranak (talk) 19:58, 10 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
