Regarding your question about US conventions on User talk:Elli, we have a guideline abbreviated WP:ENGVAR. Basically, use the variant of English that the article uses. Some articles are written in US English, which should be the case for any US-related topics. UK-related topics should be written in UK English. Indian-related topics should use Indian English. And so on. If the topic doesn't have an association with a nationality, use whatever variant of English the article already uses.
