Syria

[edit]

As to why the current Syrian government is unpopular at the UN, here are some reasons:

1) It's non-democratic. This makes them unpopular with those who believe in democracy.

2) It's not only ruled by the Shia minority, but actively functions to extend Iran's power. This makes them unpopular among the surrounding Sunni nations.

3) They support the terrorist organization Hamas, which makes them unpopular with Israel, the US, and most of Europe.

4) They support the terrorist organization Hezbollah and orchestrated the car bomb assassination Rafic Hariri of Lebanon. They also occupied that nation until 2005. All of this makes them unpopular there.

5) Then there's the events which led to the current Syrian Civil War, such as the arrests and torture of children in Daraa for writing anti-government graffiti. This makes them unpopular with anyone who cares about children or human rights.

6) Then there's the widespread murder of civilians which has occurred since the start of the Civil War. Yes, there were also a few instances on the rebel side, but nothing on the scale of government massacres.

So, after pissing off just about every nation in the world, they really didn't have many friends left, even before the Civil War started. Now they pretty much just have Iran on their side, and it has it's own problems to deal with. StuRat (talk) 01:38, 22 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. Thank you. I forgot to inform you earlier, sorry about that. If you have anything to say, you can post it here and someone will generally copy it over for you.
