Welcome!

[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. I made that edit to make your request visible. Personally, I don't tend to grant the course instructor right unless I've worked with the instructor somehow. But someone else will come along and comment probably. Do you need any help knowing how to edit Wikipedia. The "invisibility trick" I reversed with my edit is mentioned at H:Cheatsheet. Best regards! Thanks for your interest in Wikipedia! I hope you stick around and help the place improve. =) Did you have an article in mind you'd like to work on? Best. Biosthmors (talk) 19:21, 9 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you! Yes, I would love help learning to edit Wikipedia. I thought my students might be able to augment this entry Kate Gleason as our College of Engineering is named after Kate Gleason and her papers are in the RIT archives.--Tamar Carroll (talk) 19:28, 9 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
You are welcome! You can go https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Tamar_Carroll&action=history there (by also clicking "View history" at the top of the page to see the edits I made to your talk page so you can see how it works. =) Biosthmors (talk) 19:52, 9 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
That sounds like a good target! Would you like to try to add a reference to the article? You do so by including the information inside of the reference tags, the things that look like <ref></ref>, as is also done at the cheatsheet. Biosthmors (talk) 19:57, 9 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Great! Is your class of 31 going to focus on this one article? Biosthmors (talk) 20:15, 9 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your encouragement! No, I thought we might start working on this one together as a model, and then I would like each student to pick a notable woman to write about, either improving an existing entry or creating a new one, after first making sure the student can access reliable sources. Do you think that is a reasonable assignment?--Tamar Carroll (talk) 20:20, 9 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
That sounds reasonable! I like how you've planned to work on one article together, then branch out. I'll go ahead and grant you the course instructor right. Please have all students list at the course page and the articles they'll be working on there, whenever that's known. Also, it's great practice to have a link to the course page on everyone's user page. Some of those best practices are explained at WP:AFSE. Feel free to contact me, post at WP:ENB, or ask at the WP:Teahouse if you have any questions. Good luck with getting started! Biosthmors (talk) 20:31, 9 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
And I assume you all will have taken the WP:Training. =) Biosthmors (talk) 20:37, 9 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, we are all going to do the training together tomorrow in the computer lab with our librarian to assist.--Tamar Carroll (talk) 20:39, 9 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Fantastic! Do you know their username? Biosthmors (talk) 11:12, 10 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I will find out later this morning and post it. Thanks for your help!--Tamar Carroll (talk) 12:39, 10 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome. =) Biosthmors (talk) 12:40, 10 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The librarian's user name is colalibrarian.--Tamar Carroll (talk) 15:59, 10 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Course

[edit]

If your students are going to be contributing here, please announce yourselves at Wikipedia:School and university projects. I have deleted your two course content pages (this and this) - these go on the institute's wiki, not here. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 09:20, 10 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

? RHaworth, maybe I'm a bit ignorant here, but please undelete/userify and link here so we can see those. I don't think Wikipedia:School and university projects is being used like you think it is. Special:Courses lists Education Program space WP:Course pages. Best regards. Biosthmors (talk) 10:49, 10 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Ooops! Restored. I am not used to these weird new namespaces. I thought they were in mainspace. I note: a) strangely, I don't seem to be able to move the pages from the Education Program talk: namespace to Education Program: and b) is not the text repeated at Education Program:Rochester Institute of Technology/Hist 324: Oral History (Fall 2013)? But I am not really interested in what games you get up to in that exotick namespace. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 11:00, 10 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks RHaworth! There are some bug requests pending that I hope address some of those issues. I'll copy your diff at WP:ENB to alert Sage to make sure that one is requested. Thanks! Biosthmors (talk) 11:02, 10 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You have not completed the student training.

[edit]

Please complete the student training. If you have already gone through it, be sure to click the button at the end to record that you finished it. --Tamar Carroll (talk) 18:41, 23 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
