Top 30 Limits?

[edit]

Hi, I’ve been a member for 5 years and been editing television since and edited television schedules until the end of the respective season and always used Deadline.com for televisions Top 50. My question is why the sudden change to Top 30? Brianis19 Brianis19 (talk) 08:43, 18 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Because 30 is all you get from Tim Brooks. TVBuff90 (talk) 12:07, 18 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Is there a rule that the network schedules have to have a limit of the top 30 or top 50 programs? I feel like these edits have removed a lot of information from these pages, as they gave an idea of how successful a show was for the particular season. --Robloxian56 (talk) 23:00, 5 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

There's no rule. It's just that Tim Brooks only gives the top 30 rated programs of every season. --TVBuff90 (talk) 04:51, 6 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Out of curiosity,
Do you know where I would find older Nielsen ratings beyond the top 30? In particular for the 1970-71 TV season, and years before then. Someone typed that All in the Family finished 34th in that season, and did not provide any source.
If so, then maybe the ratings for that season can be found somewhere.
My apologies if this sounds weird, but I've never used this before. Truckonout (talk) 00:41, 14 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Truckonout Purchase the Directory of Primetime TV Shows. It has a record of the top 30 series up to 2007. TVBuff90 (talk) 00:47, 14 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the suggestion, but if a program ranked lower than 30th, where would that ranking be found if anywhere? Truckonout (talk) 00:48, 14 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of Viewership Figures in Favor of Household Ratings

[edit]

TVBuff90, why do you keep wiping out most of the total viewership averages for TV shows and replacing them with household-rating averages? Previously, the U.S. network TV schedules after 1997 had total viewership averages, and the pre-1997 schedules had households. You tried to implement household averages on the post-1997 schedules a few times during the mid-2010s, but I always ended up changing those figures back to viewers (particularly on the NBC Thursday-night lineup). This time, I refused to put back the viewership figures for fear of an edit war with you. It should be noted that household figures have gotten smaller and smaller after the 1990s, and the viewership data may have had a reliable source or two (even if they have gone dead over the years).

And about those "Tied with" columns you keep adding, what makes you think such columns were necessary, whether on the TV schedules or the TV shows' individual articles? It's easier to tie in household ratings than sheer number of viewers. Plus, I'm not a big fan of ties, BTW.

I just don't appreciate the total-viewership data being wiped out like you did at the CSI: Crime Scene Investigation article. The NCIS (TV series) and Hawaii Five-0 (2010 TV series) articles article have both figures listed. Jim856796 (talk) 23:56, 2 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The viewership figures aren't included in The Complete Directory of Prime Time TV Shows. I'm sorry if that bothers you, but it's just the way it is.--TVBuff90 (talk) 00:10, 3 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I'd prefer it if you provided a better explanation that just, "30 is all you get from these guys.". How have the authors of these Primetime Directories gotten access to these post-1997 household ratings figures? I think those viewership figures on U.S. broadcast TV shows' articles are an indication that household ratings are essentially meaningless after 1997, with the rise of cable channels and everything, and now the #1 series on U.S. broadcast-network TV can barely get a 10.0 household rating. And frankly, you're acting like these Primetime Directories are the only source, but that does not mean you can wipe out the previously-existing viewership figures willy-nilly. You want me to take this to WikiProject Television so we can seek a third opinion on this? Jim856796 (talk) 03:06, 3 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Be my guest. --TVBuff90 (talk) 04:00, 3 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

TVBuff90, in the middle of last June, I started a discussion on WikiProject Television talk page about our disagreement over household ratings/viewership. Two editors (IJBall and Heartfox) came forward to provide "third opinions" on this, and agreed that there was no need to be using household figures for post-1997 TV shows. IJBall stated that it depends on the availability of the household/viewer figures. Heartfox stated that household ratings are "just plain irrelevant" in the 21st century, in fact, "so irrelevant that only Tim Brooks was reporting them!". IJBall would consider your total-viewership-figure removals in the past few years to be disruptive editing. IJBall stated that his preference would be to use total viewers in place of "unavailable" household figures for post-1997 seasons/shows, and vice versa for TV seasons/shows before 1997. I brought up a suggestion to take the "households/viewers-in-the-series-overview-table" issue to the Manual of Style talk page during my discussion with IJBall. The thing is, Tim Brooks and his "Complete Directories of U.S. Broadcast Networks' Primetime TV Shows" don't have to be the only source you use for ratings info while other sources like Deadline, the Hollywood Reporter, and Zap2It exist. And last week, I changed the ratings figures on the series overview tables for the CSI series-es and The King of Queens' back to viewers (in millions). Jim856796 (talk) 13:46, 31 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Suit yourself. I realize you should pick your favorite shows based on your own opinion, not others'. TVBuff90 (talk) 14:17, 31 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
This discussion has never been about choosing one's favorite shows. This is about broadcast TV ratings/viewership and the unnecessary changes you made several years ago. Somebody should have scrutinized your edits to see if you did any damage. If an administrator or some other higher-up asked you to change these post-1997 "rating" figures back to viewers, he'd impose a ban from the Television WikiProject on you for long-term disruptive editing if you didn't comply, or for long-term edit-warring if you continue to re-insert these household rating figures (and accompanying "Tied with" columns) back into the series overview tables. Jim856796 (talk) 13:56, 3 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Gee, I didn't realize it was that serious. You can undo all my changes then. I won't object. TVBuff90 (talk) 14:04, 3 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
And I forgot, such an order would go for the post-1997 U.S. Primetime Broadcast-TV schedules, too. And that administrator would mean it. No household ratings/shares after 1997-98. And no limiting the recording of rating/viewership figures to just 30, either. The administrators would want the viewership figures restored for ALL shows, and I'm afraid there wouldn't be any exceptions to this. And I am also considering a change to the post-1997 Top-rated US TV program lists to viewers as well. Jim856796 (talk) 03:56, 26 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

An article you recently created, List of awards and nominations received by FX, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Hello, TVBuff90. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "List of The Three Stooges shorts".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}}, {{db-draft}}, or {{db-g13}} code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Disney/Fox TV distribution edit and some Wikipedia housekeeping.

[edit]

Hi, please refrain from changing any of the FOX television series distribution to Disney because Disney has nothing to do with distributing Archer, Duncanville, The Simpsons, Family Guy, American Dad! etc... even though Disney owns Twentieth Century Fox they are not involved in distributing any of FOX's broadcast products that is done directly and only by Twentieth Television. Also please don't keep creating new Wikipedia accounts that is a violation of the Wikipedia Terms of Use, you can get kicked off for creating mulitple sockpuppets, maay I suggest that you contact an Wikipedia Admin and have those accounts deleted. Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia. We appreciate your contributions, but in one of your recent edits to Bob's Burgers (season 12), it appears that you have added original research, which is against Wikipedia's policies. Original research refers to material—such as facts, allegations, ideas, and personal experiences—for which no reliable, published sources exist; it also encompasses combining published sources in a way to imply something that none of them explicitly say. Please be prepared to cite a reliable source for all of your contributions. You can have a look at the tutorial on citing sources. Please stop adding production codes on yet to air episodes, you are adding WP:SYNTH which is a part of WP:OR. — YoungForever(talk) 07:03, 8 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Updating Emmy ceremony tables

[edit]

I saw that you've been working a lot over the last few days to update the formatting of tables for Emmy ceremonies, something I had started but never finished – thanks for helping with that! One quick note: when you reformat the category titles, could you move them to the same cells as the nominees? (Example) This allows a screen reader to read the nominees immediately after the corresponding category names, as opposed to reading two category names in one row first and then reading the two sets of nominees. Let me know if you have any questions or need help! RunningTiger123 (talk) 02:32, 22 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! Voting in the 2023 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 11 December 2023. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2023 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:47, 28 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Emmy infoboxes

[edit]

Hi, I noticed you recently went through and added links for "smaller" program awards to Emmy ceremony infoboxes (example). I think these should be undone because they make the infoboxes taller and are less relevant (most of the awards are for comedies, dramas, and limited series, and they are given more prominence within the ceremonies, so those make the most sense for the infobox). Before causing any kind of edit skirmish over this, I wanted to get feedback from you. Thanks, RunningTiger123 (talk) 05:20, 19 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@RunningTiger123 I see your point. I'll undo those edits right away. TVBuff90 (talk) 10:58, 19 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Cool, I understand the idea behind your edits but I personally think it's best to not bloat the infoboxes too much. RunningTiger123 (talk) 14:21, 19 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@RunningTiger123 Agreed. TVBuff90 (talk) 15:08, 19 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved content from Only Murders in the Building into another page. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content (here or elsewhere), Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. Please provide attribution for this duplication if it has not already been supplied by another editor, and if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, you should provide attribution for that also. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. Indagate (talk) 14:49, 13 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
