Visual Kei Bands

[edit]

This message to you seems to have been deleted by a bot, so I'm reposting it:

Hi, Tuf-Kat. Recently I completed a short article on Missalina Rei in response to what I think is your request. However, I notice it has been mostly deleted by a person called Cyrus XIII. I don't have that much interest in Visual Kei bands, but I thought you might want to have a look at the article history and comment on his edits. He's also edited some other articles, Aliene Ma'riage and Noir Fleurir.

If you'll check the history, there were a few English sources for these artlicles, but Cyrus has deleted almost all the info that's come from them because he thinks they're unsuitable as references--they're translations, or fan run sites, etc., and not scholarly or magazine-based. I don't read Japanese, but I did look for some Japanese sources through Babelfish and didn't see anything that didn't look very commercial. I also did an article on Sandii and the Sunsetz, and from that I gather it's hard for Asian bands to break into Europe or the US market, meaning they are totally ignored by English sources. I also know that obstacles in the Japanese language reduce what reading material is published for the average reader, also limiting what you'll find online. This lack of sources is a problem, and I personally think some of the fan run sites are very good sources and should be allowed in cases like this--likely I would have done better to not quote sources and just use the info. Anyhow, I was hoping you might pick up a bit of maintenance on these articles, as I don't have the time and inclination to argue the points with Cyrus XIII. Thanks for calling my attention to the Visual Kei genre. It's very interesting. Pkeets 01:10, 3 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Tuf-kat and thanks for the response. I don't think there ARE any more sources on Visual kei bands, unless someone out there has a hoard of old Japanese magazines with articles from the periods when they were active. However, what I'm wondering about is Cyrus XIII editing out all the details because he doesn't think fan site descriptions of the band and their style and history are suitable references. What do you think about that? Pkeets 12:44, 3 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, thanks for the opinion. I personally think some of the fan-run sites look pretty reliable, but like I said, I'm not going to take the time to argue with Cyrus XII about it. Let the articles remain as single line descriptions. I'm not even going to fix his mis-spellings. Take care! Pkeets 04:42, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:BlindMelonBlindMelon.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:BlindMelonBlindMelon.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Vaitere

[edit]

A {{prod}} template has been added to the article Vaitere, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Please note that the article contains additional unreferenced content since you added it, Some of this content appears to inaccurate. Thanks for uploading Image:GeorgeStraitRightorWrong.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 04:39, 17 July 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. — Moe ε 04:39, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:AsiaAsia.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

Fair use rationale for Image:BadCompanyBadCompany.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:BadCompanyBadCompany.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. After Midnight 0001 03:28, 29 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image (Image:CyndiLauperShe'sSoUnusualalbumcover.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:CyndiLauperShe'sSoUnusualalbumcover.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Fair use disputed for Image:Miller'sCave.ogg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Miller'sCave.ogg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. —Remember the dot (talk) 17:09, 8 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Grey March

[edit]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A {{prod}} template has been placed on Grey March, by Daniel J. Leivick (talk · contribs), another Wikipedia user, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). If you endorse deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please tag it with {{db-author}}.

Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. --Grim Reaper Bot 07:11, 16 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Requesting your help for article improvement

[edit]

Hello...

I found your name on the member's list on the WikiProject R&B and Soul Music portal. Because of your interest in R&B and soul music, I'm writing to ask for your help with the James Brown article, which was nominated as a candidate for the Article Collaboration and Improvement Drive. The goal for this drive is to improve the article to featured status in time for the first anniversary of James Brown's death.

If you're interested and want to have your vote count in this effort, please visit Article Creation and Improvement Drive page for the James Brown article by August 28. A link to this page has also been provided on the James Brown talk page. At this time, although four votes have been recorded for improving the article, at least four votes are needed to promote the project. (The original request was for four votes, which has since been increased to a minimum of 8 votes.) You can get an idea of the improvements needed for the article by visiting the James Brown talk page to view the To-do list for the article that's located just below the Article Creation and Improvement Drive panel near the beginning of the page.

Many thanks for your help. Lwalt ♦ talk 11:25, 16 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:WhereDidYouSleepLastNight.ogg.

If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 23:57, 23 August 2007 (UTC). FL Main page proposal

[edit]

You either nominated a WP:FLC or closed such a nomination this year. As such, you are the type of editor whose opinion I am soliciting. We now have over 400 featured lists and seem to be promoting in excess of 30 per month of late (41 in August and 42 in September). When Today's featured article (TFA) started (2004-02-22), they only had about 200 featured articles and were barely promoting 20 new ones per month. I think the quality of featured lists is at least as good as the quality of featured articles was when they started appearing on the main page. Thus, I am ready to open debate on a proposal to institute a List of the Day on the main page with nominations starting November 1 2007, voting starting December 1 2007 and main page appearances starting January 1 2008. For brevity, the proposal page does not discuss the details of eventual main page content, but since the work has already been done, you should consider this proposal assuming the eventual main page will resemble either an excerpted list format or an abbreviated text format. The proposal page does not debate whether starting with weekly list main page entries would be better than daily entries. However, I suspect persons in favor of weekly lists are really voicing opinions against lists on the main page since neither TFA nor Picture of the day started as weekly endeavors, to the best of my knowledge. Right now debate seems to be among support for the current selective democratic/consensus based proposal, a selective dictatorial approach like that used at WP:TFA or a non-selective first in line/calendar approach like that used at WP:POTD. See the List of the Day proposal and comment at WP:LOTDP and its talk page.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/tcfkaWCDbwincowtchatlotpsoplrttaDCLaM) 18:51, 15 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Notice to all members of WikiProject Maryland

[edit]

There are a few things going on right now in WikiProject Maryland that I thought all members should know about, especially the first one.

  • Not too long ago, Marylandstater raised the question of exactly how many members of the project are still active. For this reason, I'm asking everyone who is still active, and wants to remain in the project, to put an asterisk (*) after their username on the project's participants list. You have until the end of November 17, 2007 to do so, sometime after that, all the names that do not have an asterisk will be removed. This is just to clean up the ever expanding list. If you've been gone and come back to find that you've been removed from the list, don't take it personally, just re-add yourself! I won't feel bad at all if no one gets removed, in fact, it would be nice if all 30 members still consider themselves active. Also, this won't affect the two subprojects, but speaking of the subprojects...
  • As of sometime next week WikiProject Baltimore City College will be no more. Myself, Golem88991, and John Carter have decided to make it into a task force of WikiProject Maryland. If you have any objections, concerns, or comments, please post them in the talk page topic concerning this.

Now for the exiting news:

  • I'm pleased to announce the creation of the Baltimore Task Force! Those interested in contributing to Wikipedia's numerous articles related to Maryland's largest city, now have a place to collaborate.
  • I'd also like to take this time to propose a project newsletter. Any comments should be directed at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Maryland#Newsletter.

A couple last things:

  • The portal is in desperate need of maintenance, anyone who's interested, go check it out.
  • It's probably a good idea to add the project page (and thus the project talk page) to your watchlist. That way, you can easily see when new comments are posted.

I hope you read through all that ;). Thanks to all members for your contributions to the project's articles so far, let's keep up the good work!
Sincerely, -Jeff (talk) 05:39, 3 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

music scholars

[edit]

Hi TUF-KAT -- It looks like you had a hand in creating Category:Music scholars and Category:Musicologists. The former is basically completely empty and serves only as a category for the latter. Whatever technical distinctions we might care to make between these two categories, it's clear they're wholly ignored by Wikipedia editors. I think for simplicity's sake we should merge, and I posted a note to that effect at Category talk:Musicologists for discussion. If you have thoughts they'd be welcome. --lquilter 16:08, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi TUF-KAT. I just realized that you're still around (thought you had disappeared), and wanted to ask your opinion on soft redirecting the "Wildflower" sections of the Field Guide (wikibooks) to the regional keys on the Bloom Clock (wikiversity). To see what the keys are lookiing like on the latter project, see, e.g., v:Bloom Clock/Keys/Southeastern Pennsylvania. We'll probably end up importing the bloom clock pages to Wikibooks eventually, but for actually generating the content Wikiversity is serving us a bit better (the "clock" part of the Bloom Clock is actually Original Research, which is fine on wv but not really ok on wb).

Any opinions?--SB_Johnny | talk 14:29, 13 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There have been a series of proposals to initiate a Featured List of the Day on the main page. Numerous proposals have been put forth. After the third one failed, I audited all WP:FL's in order to begin an experiment in my own user space that will hopefully get it going. Today, it commences at WP:LOTD. Afterwards I created my experimental page, a new proposal was set forth to do a featured list that is strikingly similar to my own which is to do a user page experimental featured list, but no format has been confirmed and mechanism set in place. I continue to be willing to do the experiment myself and with this posting it commences. Please submit any list that you would like to have considered for list of the day in the month of January 2008 by the end of this month to WP:LOTD and its subpages. You may submit multiple lists for consideration.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/WP:LOTD) 17:54, 15 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:TheRamonesRockettoRussialbumcover.jpg.

Thank you. — Save_Us_229 19:42, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:BlackCrowesAmoricaalbumcover.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. — Save_Us_229 19:59, 10 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Jay-ZReasonableDoubt.jpg)

[edit]
⚠

Thanks for uploading Image:Jay-ZReasonableDoubt.jpg.

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. B (talk) 05:42, 14 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:KyussBluesfortheRedSun.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:KyussBluesfortheRedSun.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
