Question for administrator

[edit]

{{admin help}} Hi - I seem to have been blocked for apparently using a proxy server. That is definitely not the case so I would like to be able to remedy this as soon as possible, Please let me know what I can do to fix this - Many thanks

--Siriusly55 (talk) 12:26, 10 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I have moved this down, because it is best if new messages go at the bottom of talk pages.
This account is not directly blocked. What message do you get when you try to edit? JohnCD (talk) 13:04, 10 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi John - Many Thanks for your response. I am getting this as a message

You are currently unable to edit Wikipedia. You are still able to view pages, but you are not currently able to edit, move, or create them. Editing from 31.7.56.0/21 has been blocked (disabled) by Elen of the Roads for the following reason(s): The IP address that you are currently using has been blocked because it is believed to be an open proxy. To prevent abuse, these proxies may be blocked from editing Wikipedia. If you believe you are not running an open proxy, the most likely cause is that another customer from your ISP who was previously assigned this IP address was running an open proxy. If this is the case, please request to be unblocked using the {{unblock}} template, or request administrator attention using {{admin!}} and indicate you are caught by an open proxy block. More rarely, your network equipment or that of your service provider may be misconfigured or compromised by malicious software (such as a virus). In some cases, this can be remedied by logging into the secure server. For more information, see the Wikiproject on Open Proxies and Wikipedia:Open proxies. (Sandbox test edit)

This block has been set to expire: 22:58, 18 October 2013. Even if blocked, you will usually still be able to edit your user talk page and email other editors and administrators.

I have asked for a check at Wikipedia:WikiProject on open proxies/Requests#31.7.56.0/21. JohnCD (talk) 20:26, 10 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Siriusly55. Could you please tell us your IP address so we can take a proper look and unblock it for you if appropriate? Your IP address is provided in the block message, near the top, just above the message you quoted. If you're using an anonymity service you may wish to disable it while editing. Thanks. -- zzuuzz (talk) 21:07, 10 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi - I am so so sorry - but I just figured out why this was happening. I live in Morocco and skype can be very slow here so about 10 days ago I went through a proxy and it seems to have stayed on. My actual ip address is 41.143.55.27 . I honestly had no idea it was still connected to the proxy in the background - please do accept my apologies

No worries! Assume you're OK now unless we hear again. JohnCD (talk) 10:06, 11 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
