Just making it explicit both are obviously mine. Salv~enwiki (talk) 19:05, 22 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Temporarily named "Salv~enwiki"

  • Apparently, m:Global rename policy will need to be "officialized" before I am able to successfully request usurpation of the global Salv account (currently auto-assigned to a nowikn account user for 5 edits in 2008); specifically the clause that allows usurpation when the account has under ten edits, and the last edit is from over three years ago. Ajraddatz and DerHexer would be the go-to people to help with this, since they seem to have been spearheading the efforts to finalize said policy. Salv (talk) 02:57, 26 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
m:Usurpation policy contradicts your efforts. I don't think that it's useful to usurp accounts with valid username. I recommend you to choose a fresh name which is similiar to your former one. Cheers, —DerHexer (Talk) 19:45, 26 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
DerHexer - Thanks for accepting to discuss this. See, this is where we disagree -- having the "Salv" username belong to an old nowikn user who used it for a few days years ago and left after is not useful. Allowing me to maintain control over an actively useful doppelganger/shortcut account is useful. I should own the "Salv" name. I have been using it recently. I am an active editor. Whoever was behind the nowikn account is not active, has no use for the global account, and hasn't been around in 7 years. I'm having trouble seeing how this isn't totally uncontroversial. The only reason the global account defaulted to them and not me in the SUL finalization process is because the WMF arbitratily decided to use "account age" as the sole deciding factor, and that's why I'm asking Stewards to show some common sense and rectify the simple mistake by renaming the unused account (nowikn) instead of the useful one (enwiki). ☺ · Salvidrim! ·  20:38, 26 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I would be very inclined to grant this request. The nowiki user hasn't edited since 2008, and the usurpation policy on meta is not official and was written in 2008 (same year as the last edits from the Salv account @ nowikI!). @DerHexer: any other reason to not action this request? Ajraddatz (Talk) 22:53, 26 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Just for clarification -- it's not nowiki, it's nowikn, but that's a detail at this point. Thanks for chiming in, Ajraddatz. :) ☺ · Salvidrim! ·  23:00, 26 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The reasoning here, as far as I can see, is that Salvidrim! signs their comments with Salv and therefor gets pings for this name too. That's not a mistake of the current Salv account when they created it. Our licenses say that users can decide upon their attribution. Therefor, I still see no valid reason to usurp this account that made useful edits, no matter how long it edited or how many edits they did. But maybe Salvidrim! can clarify what I should own the "Salv" name. I have been using it recently. means. According to Special:Contributions/Salv~enwiki, they started editing when the account was notified on the upcoming usurpation. Nonetheless, I'm open to a broader discussion of loosening the rules on m:Talk:Usurpation policy. Cheers, —DerHexer (Talk) 21:39, 27 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps I have been using it recently was ambiguous, so allow me to rephrase: It has been useful to me ever since its creation. Salv (like Salvid, Salvadrim and Salvidrim) are accounts with names that people sometimes use to refer to me -- the first and second are shortcuts, the third and fourth are misspellings. All of these are sometimes used when people want to mention me, and thus, understandably, they are sometimes linked to instead of Salvidrim!. Thus, in order to avoid "missing" pings (echo notifications) that are mistakenly sent to any of these doppelganger accounts, I have registered them and associated them with my e-mail. If there was a way to receive pings when Salv is linked to without actually owning the account, that would be satisfactory, but unfortunately that does not currently exist. They were also, of course, registered to avoid impersonation (like Ben Landry and Benoit Landry, the latter of which was actually used by a troll to impersonate me and which I've had to forcefully usurp), but technically if the global account is registered (to me or someone else), than nobody can create an account on enwiki with the name "Salv", so impersonation would not be a concern either way. ☺ · Salvidrim! ·  22:58, 27 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
