THIS IS WHAT I WROTE AT THE TALK PAGE THERE, BUT THIS MUST BE FASTER I THINK... Than explain me WHY there must be something about racism on a FOOTBALL Wiki? Last year this was deleted and no one complains. So one person can say it must go on there? Are you the boss? (With all kinds of respect btw). Tell me wich other football- or sportclubs have stuff about that on their page? Cause it happend for years in many stadiums. In my, and in way more people their, opinion this is a encyclopedia, not a news site. Or does the Ajax page tell about a racism incident? No. And so there are several pages. Than saying I loose privileges when I do this is a bit sad, cause you also change. Racism is a disgrace, but Wikipedia sportpages aren't made for that! Besides that I think that people who live in The Netherlands know more about a Dutch club(talk) 10:13, 8 June 2020 (UTC)

And if Racism is a thing to put on Football Wikipedia's, why I don't read anything about the racist story from the Spanisch Leeds United keeper on their page? Or is it something wich only have to be shown on Dutch clubpages? So in my opinion this hasn't to be something you can deside. And slso it isn't that I am the boss about that.(talk) 10:39, 8 June 2020 (UTC)

Hi there. First of all, in regards to the inclusion of players with expiring contracts, it is Wikipedia policy to include players until their contract expires, rather than remove them after their last match (see here), though I have decided it is probably easier to leave it as it currently is rather than revert your edits and reinstate them at the end of the month. Second of all, on the racism issue, I reinstated that section because it was removed without any discussion before, It is true to say that this section doesn't exist on all the pages of other clubs which have experienced similar issues, but these incidents feature on pages like Millwall F.C. and Chelsea F.C., such incidents feature as parts of other sections. These pages don't just exist to cover the club's football successes, but also things that happen off the pitch. The format of this page does need to be thought about, but this sort of thing should be discussed on the talk page first. Therefore, I have started a discussion on the talk page and I have attached the link for you here. SFletcher06 (talk) 09:59, 8 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Velniceri Geo: Hi. Thanks for your message. I appreciate that you are trying to help and to improve Wikipedia and your creation of the article was in good faith. However, an article about a third-tier Romanian team's season is generally not considered notable, and there is no evidence of reliable, independent coverage of this clubs season. If you feel you feel you can improve it to a standard where it meets these notability guidelines, please do. SFletcher06 (talk) 11:51, 25 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Velniceri Geo: Articles don't just need to be correct to be on Wikipedia, but they also need to be notable, and at the moment it doesn't appear to meet the notability guidelines (WP:NSEASONS or WP:GNG). Facebook isn't a WP:RS since it is not an independent, published source. It is ultimately up to what other editors believe, but it is fine if it can pass WP:NSEASONS or WP:GNG, though I'm not sure how much independent coverage the club actually gets. SFletcher06 (talk) 12:18, 25 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Charlie Cresswell

[edit]

Charlie Cresswell is 18 and has been since 17 August 2020. I am aware of this through personal information, but note these sources...

The club refer to him being 17 in September 2019 on the following link. He would not be able to sign a professional contract at 16 if his birthday was in December as per UK law, also linked below.

https://www.leedsunited.com/news/academy/25553/duo-sign-first-pro-contracts

https://nationalcareers.service.gov.uk/job-profiles/footballer

UK births also reference his birth date to be in the third quarter of 2002, not the fourth. linked below.

https://www.findmypast.co.uk/search/results?datasetname=england%20%26%20wales%20births%201837-2006&firstname=charlie&firstname_variants=true&lastname=cresswell&eventyear=2002&eventyear_offset=2&sid=999

Charlie also signed his scholarship in the summer 2018, after leaving school. He wouldn't have been able to sign a scholarship if he was still at school, and the birth date you assign would still make him 15 on September 1st 2018. Linked below.

https://www.leedsunited.com/news/academy/23292/academy-2018-scholars-sign-up

Soccerway, Transfermarkt and various other sites takes their data from Football Manager, who assign random dates when their birth date is unknown. Please do not use these sources.

Thanks

@Leeds543: You make a fair point but at the moment it's your word against theirs on what the exact date is. Until shown by, say the Leeds website, I'll use the birth based on age as of date template :) Microwave Anarchist (talk) 06:22, 18 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Ntuthuko Madela moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Ntuthuko Madela, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Snowycats (talk) 18:36, 28 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, I can see in principle why you reverted my edit but I feel you went a bit far by deleting rather than amending. Firstly, I can find no evidence in the references here or online as to the chronology of the youth clubs Sinisalo played for in the lower reaches of Finnish football. You added Honka in as it is mentioned in one reference but it is not clear if he was there directly before Espoo from that reference. What is clear is that he was signed to Espoo as a youth player and was drafted in to the first team for emergency cover aged 15 for a single 3rd tier league game and one appearance on the bench. Apparently that means his youth career ended at 15 by the precedent you note, despite him not being professional at that stage and signing youth terms at Aston Villa later that year, going on to play for the U18/23 sides over three seasons in their youth sides before being loaned to Ayr recently. I'd appreciate if you could show me the consensus in WP:Football for this approach as it seems non-nonsensical, for a goalkeeper especially who will usually debut at a later age. The facts of the matter are that he has been a youth footballer at Espoo and Aston Villa and that should be noted in his Youth Career box. Mountaincirque 13:49, 3 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Mountaincirque: Despite a fair amount of searching, I can't find where the consensus for youth career ending at the senior debut was first established, with the first mention I could find being in 2015, but there was an RfC on this recently which did not establish any consensus, so for now I will stick with the current system, even if it does seem a bit ridiculous in this instance.
Secondly, I don't have a reference for the chronology of the youth clubs, but I don't think there is any other way of listing them, so I just listed them in the order that the source gave them. Also, it was an oversight of mine not to include Espoo in the youth career section, so I have added that in there now.
Many thanks, Microwave Anarchist (talk) 18:29, 3 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for sharing that and a well reasoned response, my response would be that the current 'status quo' is just that, not an official consensus, just a handful of editors who expressed that tendency to end the 'youth years' after a pro debut a number of years ago. You can actually see on the RfC that more editors voted for a merged, common sense approach (9 votes to 6) but there was no consensus [I'm very surprised that there are people wanting to delete youth information completely which is very odd]. I would have voted for that merged approach (#2/3) too if I had been aware of the discussion. My opinion as an editor is to be practical and present information in a clear way to non-experts. This player has been a youth player for Aston Villa for 2.5-3 years but a glance at his info box won't tell you that, that's not a clear presentation of data in my opinion. I'm happy to leave the page as is and maybe there will be a new RfC soon. All the best Mountaincirque 09:46, 4 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Short descriptions for association football players

[edit]

Hi, please could you explain why you have reverted my change to the short description at Ollie Palmer? As there are different types of football, the short description should be clear that the article is about an association football player and not just a footballer which is ambiguous. If in any doubt, take a look at the football player article which uses the same terminology. LTFC 95 (talk) 00:28, 4 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@LTFC 95: Hi. If you look through Category:English footballers, you will find that 'English footballer' is consistently used as the short description. Also, the lead of Palmer's article, like the majority of other English players, refers to him as an 'English professional footballer' (not 'association football player'), so there is no good reason to use 'association football player' rather than 'footballer'. References in stats table

[edit]

Hi. WP:FOOTY/Players explicity states to put the sources next to the updated template and not in a ref column. [2] It does. But as far as I can tell, this way of referencing has been widely used and mostly unopposed. There's a benefit to indicating more explicitly which reference backs up which season. Maybe this variant should be put of for discussion so it gets to be explicitly listed as acceptable in the template. Kind regards, Robby.is.on (talk) 17:26, 20 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Robby.is.on: fair enough. I sometimes use refs each individual season but only when necessary, which doesn't seem to be the case with Özil. Also, I always put them in the season column because it it a more common way to format it and a ref column looks really clunky to me, but I feel a discussion about this would probably be beneficial. Microwave Anarchist (talk) 18:07, 20 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I've started a discussion here. Microwave Anarchist (talk) 18:15, 20 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Also, I didn't notice the list underneath which actually states that per season refs are preferred. It still seems odd with Özil where the Soccerway ref is repeated for pretty much every season. Microwave Anarchist (talk) 19:22, 20 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for starting the discussion. :-) Yeah, when I've updated Özil's table I've used Soccerway because it was easiest.
I don't really care that much where the references are placed but I think a separate column might be easier to figure out for people who don't routinely look at these tables the way we do. Robby.is.on (talk) 21:30, 20 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps you're right. Either way, it doesn't really matter, as long as the reference is there. :) Microwave Anarchist (talk) 21:37, 20 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Patrick Bamford starts in 2020/21

[edit]

Hello Microwave Anarchist. I noticed the removal of my line (added here yesterday: Patrick_Bamford#2020–21_season) concerning Bamford's starts in all league games this season. I added it since there had been a lot of debate over his efficacy as a solitary striker as well as Bielsa's logic in team selection. Perhaps this is a stat that could be added at the end of the season -- and I would accept that -- but I don't think that it's so irrelevant as to be dispatched to the bin. Thanks! Franburke2 (talk) 16:01, 9 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Your GA nomination of Tom Nichols (footballer)

[edit]

The article Tom Nichols (footballer) you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:Tom Nichols (footballer) for comments about the article. Well done! If the article has not already appeared on the main page as a "Did you know" item, or as a bold link under "In the News" or in the "On This Day" prose section, you can nominate it within the next seven days to appear in DYK. Bolded names with dates listed at the bottom of the "On This Day" column do not affect DYK eligibility. Patrick Bamford: various club career stat totals

[edit]

Hello again, @Microwave Anarchist: re. your deletion of club names in three club "Totals" rows for Bamford's appearances/goals, I've seen club names preceding "Total" for some footballers, although admittedly far less frequently than just "Total" for these rows. Is the convention to avoid the addition of the club? It seemed in this instance to make sense, as Bamford's Boro appearances/goals sandwiched three other clubs. Happy to leave as you've left it. All the best, Franburke2 (talk) 03:23, 23 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Franburke2: It is what is given in WP:FOOTY/Players, so yes. If it is given the other way, 'total' would have to be lower case as well. Microwave Anarchist (talk) 06:51, 23 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I would suggest you apply for WP:AUTOPAT: this way, your created articles are directly marked as reviewed and won't be included in the New Pages Feed. Nehme1499 01:15, 30 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I would re-suggest you to do so. It would lift the load off of new page reviewers (such as myself). Your articles are obviously up to standard, so there is no reason for us to have to review them. Nehme1499 19:12, 26 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Elmo Kambindu

[edit]

Hi, thanks for helping with the article for Elmo Kambindu. I have added back the goal table with additional sources for his goals in the 2021 COSAFA Cup. I know NFT is a little delayed at times but I don't usually add the additional sources for the sake of keeping the article tidy. I definitely understand the need for it though. Autopatrolled granted

[edit]

Hi Microwave Anarchist, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the "autopatrolled" permission to your account, as you have created numerous, valid articles. This feature will have no effect on your editing, and is simply intended to reduce the workload on new page patrollers. For more information on the autopatrolled right, see Wikipedia:Autopatrolled. However, you should consider adding relevant wikiproject talk-page templates, stub-tags and categories to new articles that you create if you aren't already in the habit of doing so, since your articles will no longer be systematically checked by other editors (User:Evad37/rater and User:SD0001/StubSorter.js are useful scripts which can help). Feel free to leave me a message if you have any questions. Happy editing! Schwede66 08:11, 9 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

NFC VERIA

[edit]

Dear Microwave Anarchist,

Veria F.C. and NFC Veria ARE NOT the same club. Please do not associate them or link a redirect link.

PanosBonJovi (talk) 17:08, 9 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@PanosBonJovi: - I created the redirect because the article contained information on both clubs, which I see you have removed, which is fair enough if they are not the same club. I know very little about Greek football, so you would have to fill me on on the details, but if they are separate clubs, then that NFC Veria article will have to be expanded from a redirect and preferably with the detail that was on the Veria F.C. article before you removed it. Microwave Anarchist (talk) 17:39, 9 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Microwave Anarchist: I had to remove the information. I'm currently gathering info and details about NFC Veria so I can create an article for NFC Veria. NFC Veria is Elpis Skoutari F.C. which changed it's home court and it's name to NFC Veria back in 2018. It was my mistake to confuse the teams and include those information there. NFC Veria has nothing to do with Veria F.C. as they are 2 separate clubs. Veria F.C. is an inactive club if i'm not mistaken. This is the link to the Greek article regarding NFC Veria: https://el.wikipedia.org/wiki/%CE%A0.%CE%A3._%CE%92%CE%AD%CF%81%CE%BF%CE%B9%CE%B1

2021-22 Leeds United F.C. Season

[edit]

Hi mate, I put the results summary section just as it was there last season. I don't see any reason to delete it.

@Juan diego sanchez: I deleted the results summary table as it serves little purpose and is mostly just repetition of the league table, which is against WP:NOSTATS as far as I'm concerned. Also, per WP:SIG, can you sign your name on talk pages using four tildes: ~~~~. MOT, Microwave Anarchist (talk) 09:33, 16 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Wikiwall32: this has defo been discussed on my talk page before, and I know the birth date you've added is right but all the sources on it are conflicting and I can't find a conclusive source. For the two sources you've provided, Transfermarkt is not considered a reliable source and the Leeds video doesn't explicitly state his birthday. Generally, I just turn a blind eye to it until Soccerway, Soccerbase etc etc get their act together and give the correct date. Microwave Anarchist (talk) 17:29, 27 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned Article Help

[edit]

Hey, I noticed you reverted my changes on Angola national football team results (2020–present) to not include the season infobox. I can understand that. I was trying to make it so that Angola national football team results (2000–2019) and Angola national football team results (1976–1999) were linked by other pages on wikipedia. Now they are just linking to each other, admitidly using the season infobox to do it. If you have a link to a more appropriate infobox I could use or an alternative suggestion to make it possible to find those pages through wikilinks I would be interested to hear it. Carver1889 (talk) 15:05, 9 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Carver1889: It might be appropriate to change {{Angola national football team}} to include links to these result list articles, as is done by {{Scotland national football team}}. A template similar to {{Scotland national football team results}} in place of that infobox may also be useful. Microwave Anarchist (talk) 16:01, 9 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The article Luke Hallett has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

This person is a semi-pro local league football player who is not noteworthy in any way at this point in time, and is akin to watching your local football team playing at the field down the road from you. Such people do not require wikipedia articles.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist.
