Standard

[edit]

Hey! Welcome to Wikipedia! I'm curious why you redirected Standard (Indian automobile) (a full article) into Standard Motor Products of India without discussing it first. It was very bold. Why did you choose to do that over merging/moving the page? czar · · 05:21, 20 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I'm Mrt3366. I wanted to let you know that I undid one or more of your recent contributions to Standard (Indian automobile) because it didn't appear constructive. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Mr T(Talk?) (New thread?) 11:59, 20 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Your contributed article, Standard Motor Products of India

[edit]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, Standard Motor Products of India. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page – Standard (Indian automobile). Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Standard (Indian automobile) – you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.

If you think that the article you created should remain separate, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. Mr T(Talk?) (New thread?) 12:00, 20 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you recently tried to give Standard (Indian automobile) a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into another page with a different name. This is known as a "cut and paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is needed for attribution and various other purposes. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page. This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Cut and paste move repair holding pen. Thank you. Mr T(Talk?) Standard Motor Products of India

[edit]

'’’Standard Motor Products of India’’’ was the name of the company that manufactured the Standard Cars in India under license from Standard Motors UK. The page title “Standard (Indian automobile)” seems to be not in tune with the Wikipedia pages concerning the Automobile Manufacturers and their Brand.

For Ex: “Ford Motor Company” has the details of the company and then a list of Cars manufactured by them. Ford’s European operations were under “Ford of Europe” page. The Ford EU company, tough fully owned subsidiary, was operating as a separate entity in a different continent/location. Also the cars made and sold were different in most cases from Detroit. In this case, the “Standard Motor Products of India” is the name of the Indian company whose equity was not fully owned by the “Standard Motors UK”, but was into a partnership between an Indian Investor and the British Counterpart. This Indian company also survived long until 1990’s and was liquidated sometime in 2006, while the British company (the original) got absorbed into British Leyland was back in 60’s or early 70’s. So forth, the page title “Standard (Indian automobile)” sounds like “Ford (European automobile)” which does not meet as per Wikipedia page title standards. This was the reason behind shifting the contents into the newly created “Standard Motor Products of India” page. Also the text and tone of the original “Standard (Indian automobile)” has to be toned down as the page itself seems to be lifted off from some much opinioned article.

So I feel it is logical to merge with the original edit history of the “Standard (Indian automobile)” page into ‘’’Standard Motor Products of India’’’ rather than having a page title with a rather insipid title. Request your help in improving that page and I hope my explanation helps you understand the reasons for that page change edit. Please leave a message in this page in case of any queries and clarifications. And sorry for the trouble.--Race27 (talk) 09:18, 21 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know about this history, so I'll stay neutral for now, but you should move your comment to Standard's current talk page if you want it taken into consideration. czar · · 16:36, 21 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Czar, Thanks for you reply. I have posted the same explanation in the Talk:Standard (Indian automobile) page.--Race27 (talk) 16:49, 21 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Linking

[edit]

Hi Race27 and welcome to Wikipedia. A couple of editing tips for you:

  • as a general rule, links should only appear once in an article (except for in tables, etc) - see WP:OVERLINK for further information.
  • once a person's full name has been mentioned in an article, they should be referred to by just their surname thereafter - see WP:SURNAME for further information.

I've removed the unnecessary links and first names from 1997 Hungarian Grand Prix. Regards. DH85868993 (talk) 10:21, 27 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
