Information icon Hi Professor Penguino! I noticed that you have reverted to restore your preferred version of Aaron Maté several times. The impulse to undo an edit you disagree with is understandable, but I wanted to make sure you're aware that the edit warring policy disallows repeated reversions even if they are justifiable.

All editors are expected to discuss content disputes on article talk pages to try to reach consensus. If you are unable to agree at Talk:Aaron Maté, please use one of the dispute resolution options to seek input from others. Using this approach instead of reverting can help you avoid getting drawn into an edit war. Thank you. Kleinpecan (talk) 01:14, 13 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Kleinpecan. Thank you for taking the time to write to me. The article was biased and unfair to Aaron Mate. I was in no way trying to start an edit war. This is actually the first time I have edited or even attempted to edit the Aaron Mate page. It is important for Wikipedia to be objective, fair, and balanced--and back up claims with objectively proven facts and citations. If I have time, I will bring it up on the Talk Page.
Sincerely, Fellow Wikipedian, Professor Penguino (talk) 01:34, 13 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The problem is that the phrase award-winning is puffery. His awards are already listed in the article. Kleinpecan (talk) 01:38, 13 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
With all due respect, then why is "fringe" included in the introduction? The word "fringe" is very prejudicial. Whereas "award-winning" is just a simple fact--not puffery--to balance out the negative biased word "fringe." Professor Penguino (talk) 01:45, 13 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia defines Puffery as, "exaggerated or false praise." To say that Aaron Mate is an "award winning Canadian journalist" is neither false, nor exaggerated. It is simply a fact. Professor Penguino (talk) 01:52, 13 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
As per MOS:PUFFERY, those are "words [that] are often used without attribution to promote the subject of an article, while neither imparting nor plainly summarizing verifiable information".
As per WP:NPOV, Wikipedia articles should represent "fairly, proportionately, and, as far as possible, without editorial bias, all the significant views that have been published by reliable sources on a topic." If reliable sources are primarily negative, so will be the Wikipedia article. There is no requirement to engage in false balance and balance articles out. Kleinpecan (talk) 02:17, 13 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
1.) The fact that Mate is "award-winning" *is* attributed--I included a citation. Indeed, it is indisputable. 2.) It is not in fact "puffery" because it is easily verifiable that he won the Izzy Award. 3.) By your own logic, you are inconsistent as other journalists are referred to as "award-winning" and you have no problem using the word "fringe," which is a negative prejudicial put-down. 4.) In any case, I propose as a compromise that Wikipedia move the fact that Mate won the IZZY Award from the first sentence of the introduction to the last sentence of the intro. You can look up many award-winning journalists on Wikipedia--the fact that they won awards is always prominently featured in the first introductory paragraph, often in the last sentence of the introduction. Professor Penguino (talk) 03:49, 13 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Again, I really appreciate your feedback. I love Wikipedia. Professor Penguino (talk) 01:46, 13 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I'm EchidnaLives. I noticed that you made a change to an article, Spanish conquest of the Aztec Empire, but you didn't provide a source. I’ve removed it for now, but if you’d like to include a citation to a reliable source and re-add it, please do so! If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. echidnaLives (talk) 01:17, 14 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, EchidnaLives. The quote is as cited in Joy Hakim's 2005 book The First Americans: Prehistory - 1600 Chapter 22, Page 110. I was actually in the midst of writing a citation when my edits were suddenly reverted before I had a chance to add the citation. Professor Penguino (talk) 01:42, 14 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome!

Hello, Professor Penguino, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Information icon There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. Thank you.Cheezypeaz (talk) 00:07, 15 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Excuse me, do you know Pax Wikipedian, a user who edited your userpage and you seemed completely fine with that? — Nythar (💬-🎃) 02:20, 15 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I do. Why do you ask? Professor Penguino (talk) 02:23, 15 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Why not ask? Some people like to join Wikipedia in small groups to work on certain projects, but I find it a bit strange when multiple accounts edit with the behavior of experienced users. Graham87 was also somewhat confused by this, as can be seen here: User talk:Pax Wikipedian#Blocked. — Nythar (💬-🎃) 02:27, 15 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi. I am just letting you know that I am not trying to edit war. I put an explanation for my edit that you reverted. Figure it would help clarify why I made that change. CartoonnewsCP (talk) 22:45, 7 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I understand now. Thank you for your clarification. Have a nice day! Professor Penguino (talk) 22:47, 7 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Spacing

[edit]

Hello, and thanks for your contributions. Although I admire your enthusiasm, please don't edit articles just to remove spaces from line ends or to turn double spaces into single ones. Double spacing is one valid way to separate sentences, and is the norm in some countries such as the UK. Changing the spacing has no effect on the displayed page, and simply clutters the edit history. Wikipedia has many more important errors to be fixed. Thanks again, Certes (talk) 09:18, 8 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Bolivia and ANI

[edit]
Twinkle, not to be confused with Twinkie

Hey, thanks for noticing the issue on the Bolivia article. You're right, Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents is the wrong place to post about that (usually). A more appropriate forum is WP:TEAHOUSE, where there's almost always someone willing to help. However, a nifty trick to help fix the issue yourself is to enable Twinkle. Twinkle actually has a function that allows you to find a stable prior version of an article and restore that version in a single click (as I did on Bolivia). Again, thanks for noticing the issue and don't feel like you did something wrong by posting to ANI; just the wrong spot! ~ Pbritti (talk) 00:33, 14 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Pbritti! Thank you for fixing the Bolivia page! Next time I'll go to the Teahouse for help. I'll definitely try installing Twinkle. Sincerely, Fellow Wikipedian, Professor Penguino (talk) 02:06, 14 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Gubble

[edit]

hi, on what basis did you re-revert my edit of Gubble just now? I replaced an incorrect developer credit for the PlayStation version (crediting the US publisher of the game as the developer) with one referenced to GDRI which is a well-regarded source among game historians, had it reverted by a bot in what appeared to be a false positive, and as per the message left by the bot on my talk page, I reported the false positive and redid the edit only to find it reverted again by you with no explanation 81.101.170.185 (talk) 21:06, 19 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The revert was actually an accident, so I am sorry about that. I have just reverted my revert, so your revision is now in place again. Regards, Professor Penguino (talk) 21:28, 19 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism? No. I reverted to the last stable revision and fixed a citation. Since the 1RR is in place on the article, I'm going to let this go. But vandalism is serious. I spend half of my time on Wikipedia reverting vandalism. Try not to accuse good-faith editors of being vandals next time.

Welcome!

[edit]

Hi Professor Penguino! This userspace essay has a space at the start of its title, causing it to be sorted at the top of Category:User essays, rather than under W. Would you object if the page was moved to remove the space (or alternatively, a {{DEFAULTSORT}} magic word added)?

All the best, user:A smart kittenmeow 11:12, 20 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I would not mind. Thank you very much for asking! Professor Penguino (talk) 18:32, 20 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

DYK nomination of 2023 missile strike on the Sevastopol Naval Base

[edit]

Hello! Your submission of 2023 missile strike on the Sevastopol Naval Base at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and some issues with it may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) at your nomination's entry and respond there at your earliest convenience. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know! Specifically, there's a paragraph that needs citations. I've marked it in the article.3family6 (Talk to me | See what I have done) 14:30, 25 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, I saw that there was a problem with the source I added. Is it a formatting thing, or a problem with the source itself? Professor Penguino (talk) 23:23, 25 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, LOL now I got what you were saying. Ok, I'll try looking for those citations right away. Thanks. Professor Penguino (talk) 23:27, 25 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Done. Unsourced material was wither removed or sourced. You can check back over it again when you get a chance. :) Professor Penguino (talk) 01:53, 26 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

For Future Reference

You can close a discussion you started if you are withdrawing your idea. I went ahead and did it for you procedurally. :) Aasim - Herrscher of Wikis ❄️ 00:59, 27 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, thanks!! Professor Penguino (talk) 01:19, 27 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Welp - my close got reverted. I presume what I said applies outside of the idea lab. Anyway have a good day! Aasim - Herrscher of Wikis ❄️ 04:36, 27 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Aw, that's too bad. Have a good one! Professor Penguino (talk) 04:46, 27 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

+rollback

[edit]

Hi Professor Penguino,

After reviewing your request, I have added your account to the rollback group. Keep in mind these things when using rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
  • Users should be informed (or warned) after their edits have been reverted. If warnings repeatedly don't help, WP:ANI is the default place to go. In cases of very clear ongoing intentional damage to the encyclopedia, WP:AIV can be used.
  • Reverting someone's edits may confuse or upset them. Whenever other users message you on your talk page, please take the time to respond to their concerns; accountability is important. For most users who message you, the tone and quality of your answer will permanently influence their opinion about Wikipedia in general.
  • Because the plain default rollback link does not provide any explanatory edit summary, it must not be used to revert good faith contributions, even if these contributions are disruptive. Take the time to write a proper summary whenever you're dealing with a lack of neutrality or verifiability; a short explanation like "[[WP:NPOV|not neutral]]" or "[[WP:INTREF|Please provide a citation]]" is helpful.
  • Rollback may never be used to edit war, which you'll notice to be surprisingly tempting in genuine content disputes. Please especially keep the three-revert rule in mind. If you see others edit warring, please file a report at WP:ANEW. The most helpful essay I've ever seen is WP:DISCFAIL; it is especially important for those who review content regularly.
  • If you encounter private information or threats of physical harm during your patrols, please quickly use Special:EmailUser/Oversight or Special:EmailUser/Emergency; ideally bookmark these pages now. See WP:OS and WP:EMERGENCY for details. If you're regularly patrolling recent changes, you will need both contacts sooner or later, and you'll be happy about the bookmarks.

To try rollback for the first time, you may like to make an edit to WP:Sandbox, and another one, and another one, and then revert the row with one click. I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into trouble or have any questions about rollback. Thank you for your time and work in cleaning up Wikipedia. Happy editing!

Best regards,
~ ToBeFree (talk) 19:47, 3 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you! This will help me a lot fighting vandalism. Have a good one. Professor Penguino (talk) 20:53, 3 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Drafts

[edit]

Hi Professor Penguino. Just a head up that there's no requirement to use draftspace for confirmed editors without a COI. Please try to avoid implying otherwise. – Joe (talk) 07:24, 6 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I didn’t imply it was required. I didn’t move the editor’s article back to draft space or something like that. If I am not mistaken, it is preferring if editors start a draft before creating a stub article. It was simply because the article was pretty much a stub that hadn’t gone through the process of review. That’s all.
Have a good one. Professor Penguino (talk) 20:42, 6 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You recently added this image to the Jayne Mansfield article. Please be aware that per WP:NFCC #10c, every use of a non-free image such as this one must have a valid rationale. Also be aware that per WP:NFC#UUI #6, the use of a non-free image outside of a dedicated article about that image is generally not permitted. This image has a dedicated article at Jayne Mansfield–Sophia Loren photo and thus no valid rationale can be created for its use on the Jayne Mansfield article. I've removed the image from the usage on Jayne Mansfield. If you have questions, let me know. Thanks, --Hammersoft (talk) 12:13, 24 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
