A tag has been placed on Michael McDonald (fighter), requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion debate, such as at articles for deletion. Under the specified criteria, where an article has substantially identical content to that of an article deleted after debate, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. TreyGeek (talk) 00:51, 10 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Refer to this AfD discussion where the consensus was to delete the article the first time. The speedy was for recreating an article that was previously AfD'ed and doesn't have anything substantially different. --TreyGeek (talk) 04:04, 10 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Note on writing new articles

[edit]

Dear Ppt1973, thanks for the note on my talk page. I would recommend that before you try and create/write a new article on Michael McDonald or any other person, kindly read three of Wikipedia's articles consolidating our policies and guidelines with respect to articles on individuals>> WP:BLP, WP:BIO and WP:N. Every article on Wikipedia stands on a few non-negotiable pillars. Kindly ensure that any article that you create is based on reliable source, verifiability and is written with a dispassionately neutral point of view. Like I mentioned, if your article is considered non-notable as per our guidelines, it will be deleted. Now, how do we proceed from here. On this page >>User talk:Ppt1973/sandbox<< make your proposed article and drop me a line on my talk page and I'll take a look to give you suggestions on how to improve the article. How does that sound? Feel free to write to me for anything else too. Best regards. ♪ ♫ Wifione ♫ ♪ ―Œ ♣Łeave Ξ мessage♣ 13:06, 10 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oh. I thought you would have had the contents. Contact the administrator Nyttend who deleted your article, leave a note on his talk page requesting him for the contents to be placed on the page I mentioned. A better idea would be that if you have the backup of the contents, use those to re-create the article. But do not post the contents anywhere other than the page I have pointed out. Warm regards. ♪ ♫ Wifione ♫ ♪ ―Œ ♣Łeave Ξ мessage♣ 13:12, 10 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, the page is now at User talk:Ppt1973/sandbox. Please be careful to modify the page quickly; this is close enough to the article that was deleted at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Michael McDonald (fighter) that it will qualify for deletion quickly if you don't modify it a bit. Nyttend (talk) 13:43, 10 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I'll also point out that WP:MMANOT provides more specific guidelines for the notability of MMA fighters and organizations than WP:ATHLETE does. --TreyGeek (talk) 21:13, 10 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

MMAWeekly

[edit]

Hi Ppt, as you're one of the more frequent contributors to MMA articles, I thought I should give you a heads up. Currently, H3llbot is marking many, many MMAWeekly links as dead, as shown here. I'd suggest that in future we avoid linking to MMAweekly. Other substitutes are just as good, but it appears they don't delete old articles like weekly does. Hope you can keep this in mind. Thanks. As stated in the nickname section of the talk page for this site, Fighters are listed by the same names as they are listed on UFC.com with, to create parity between the rosters. It annoys me too, that they list crocop and minotauro the way they do, but That's the way it is. Nice attempt to get this protected. Unfortunately, admins hold to the idea that anyone can contribute to the encyclopedia. Additionally, I'm keeping an eye on all pages (e.g. fighters) that are linked on that page. I'll revert as much as I can. Thanks for the effort!--GnoworTC 22:34, 16 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Your contributed article, UFC Fight Night 26

[edit]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I notice that you recently created a new page, UFC Fight Night 26. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page - UFC 138. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at UFC 138 - you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.

If you think that the article you created should remain separate, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion," which appears inside of the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate). Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. MattParker 119 (talk) 16:01, 19 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a search with the contents of UFC Fight Night 69, and it appears to be very similar to another Wikipedia page: UFC Fight Night: Gustafsson vs. Teixeira. It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case. If you are intentionally trying to rename an article, please see Help:Moving a page for instructions on how to do this without copying and pasting. If you are trying to move or copy content from one article to a different one, please see Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia and be sure you have acknowledged the duplication of material in an edit summary to preserve attribution history.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. CorenSearchBot (talk) 18:31, 30 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Concise fight results

[edit]

I see you're undoing some of what I've done to tie results to fights (Means and Dariush). Not a huge problem, but curious as to why. In my eye, it's strange to put the who, what, where, why and when in one sentence, and have a separate one for the how. It makes some sense if we were forced to edit in real time, because the fight is announced first, but after the fact, isn't it tidier to say Joe Blow knocked out/submitted/decisioned Joe Schmo at the show? If someone wins a fight, that they first faced their opponent goes without saying.

Clear and concise, or no? InedibleHulk (talk) 21:06, 23 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • No problem and I can see you point to an extent. The changes made were to keep the initial sources for the fight announcement, and then add sources for the results of the fights. Cheers! Ppt1973 (talk) 12:28, 24 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Oh right, that makes sense. Though perhaps the source for the announcement is also made unnecessary by the source for the result. Hard to win or lose a UFC fight that wasn't scheduled. For now, I'll reshrink those, but keep both sources at the end. InedibleHulk (talk) 21:08, 24 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi dude. I found on Internet that Yair Rodríguez has a longer MMA record that the one hosted in Sherdog. I found he was 8-0 before lost against Luis Herrera on FMP 13. I also found that he beat a guy named Willie Martínez [1] in a FMP event to reach a 3-0 record. At the time he win the FMP Featherweight Championship against Jonatan Guzmán he had more fights (he didn't debut on that event). Events hosted by Mexican Fighters Promotions on YouTube has official decisions and times, so I think we can put them on Yair's official record. - MichaelBreacker (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 00:24, 25 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The Board of Trustees of the Wikimedia Foundation has appointed a committee to lead the search for the foundation’s next Executive Director. One of our first tasks is to write the job description of the executive director position, and we are asking for input from the Wikimedia community. Please take a few minutes and complete this survey to help us better understand community and staff expectations for the Wikimedia Foundation Executive Director.

Notes section is for awards and notable accomplishments directly related to the fight. I think having one of the fastest knockouts in UFC history is most definitely a notable accomplishment. UFC events creation

[edit]

Hey man, how are you? I wanted to approach you regarding something... You create a page for UFC Fight Night 94 based on Brasília. But they just announced on broadcast a Fight Night event one week earlier than this one. I think I've said that before for someone else, but we shouldn't create fight night articles with a number on the title when there's a good amount of time before it happens. My suggestion is creating a different name like "UFC Fight Night Brasilia 2016" just to keep as a redirect directly on that page. As soon as a main event is confirmed, then a title can be changed. That avoids situations like this (which happened a lot in the past), specially because sometimes you try to reach an article based on number and it gets redirected to a different one. Obviously it seems that event will become FN 95, but anyway... That was my point. Might be something better for the future. Gsfelipe94 (talk) 01:44, 14 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Fighter's notes

[edit]

Hey man, sometimes I saw that you edited some of the notes in mma records of articles. Those edits are always corrected when a result is updated during an event, including other details on that same notes section. Specially those cases in which a fighter had a result overturned. I developed a pattern for them, so it looks similar in all pages (Originally a XXX win (finish) for Fighter; overturned after he tested positive for YYYY). As I said, sometimes I see that those things are changed unnecessarily (recent example is Kevin Casey's article) also including catchweights (Catchweight (xxx lbs) bout; Fighter missed weight). If possible, please do not change them again. Thanks. Gsfelipe94 (talk) 04:08, 25 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Unhiding future fights from records

[edit]

Why do you keep doing this? Per WP:MMA, those should be kept hidden until the fight has happened, yet you keep intentionally showing them.

"Never add future bouts. The purpose of the record table is to provide a quick account of a fighter's past career, not to speculate about his/her future. Upcoming bouts that have been officially announced can only be mentioned within the body text at the end of the Mixed martial arts career section, provided that they are notable (covered by reliable third-party sources.)"

I've told you about this in the past, and you ignored it. Cut it out.TBMNY (talk) 23:50, 7 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

UFC on Fight Night on ESPN and ESPN+

[edit]

H Ppt1973, Greetings to you. I need you input of the below. ESPN has just announced the UFC events for the second quarter 2019 - see [4]. They defined UFC Fight Night on Fight Night and UFC Fight Night on ESPN+. I created the UFC first quarter 2019 article based on MMAJunkie naming (UFC on ESPN and UFC on ESPN+) . Since the "Fight Night" is in the naming on the second quater schedule based on ESPN Media Zone I created the articles as per the source and changed all the naming and links for the first quarter as well for consistency since it would be ESPN broadcast events (anywhere the naming in Wikipedia eventually will be change to the actual event names in later date). Since ESPN name both events on ESPN and ESPN+ as Fight Night event - should be name all of them in alternative name as UFC Fight Night xxxx (which means no more UFC Fight Night on ESPN and UFC Fight Night xxx( replacing UFC Fight Night ESPN+ xx). May be it is a little better to see the below for clarity.

I have changed the initial article names and links
a. UFC on ESPN to UFC Fight Night on ESPN
b. UFC on ESPN+ to UFC Fight Night on ESPN+ (with alternative name UFC Fight Night xxx)

New articles I have created (second quarter 2019)
c. UFC Fight Night on ESPN (alternative name UFC Fight Night xxx)
d. UFC Fight Night on ESPN+ (alternative name UFC Fight Night xxx)

I put alternative name starting from UFC Fight Night on ESPN+ 7 to UFC Fight Night 151 and the rest of the above (c) and (d) events following the Fight Night numbering. I was going to change the first quarter numbering and thinking it might not be the conventional way to do that since we had UFC on Fox but not UFC Fight Night on Fox but on the other hand ESPN named their event with "Fight Night" on both ESPN and ESPN+ channel. So at the present the numbering is not correctly in place and I am writing to you to seek you input. You could go to the List of UFC events for the links of the events. By the way I have yet to link the to "UFC Fight Night xxx]] and yet to create UFC Fight Night xxx redirect for the second quater events. Let me know what you think and if you think and if you think and change them as may if you see fit. Thank you. CASSIOPEIA(talk) 04:02, 31 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

UFC Fight Night on ESPN+ 7 - Volkan vs Overeem

[edit]

Hey Ppt1973, good day. the source you provide of the above bout here [5] stating it is a rumous and not an official announce. Volkan has been booked for UFC Fight Night on ESPN+ 5 against Dominick Reyes on March 16, 2019 in London - [6]. UFC Fight Night on ESPN+ 7 is on April 20, 2019. It is unusual for a fighter to be booked 2 bouts at the same time, in advance, especially only one month as fighters might sustain long medical suspension and could not fight the next scheduled bout.

By the way, I have created all the redirects, if you want to link to UFC Fight Night xxx, it would work now. Thank you. CASSIOPEIA(talk) 10:47, 10 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Category:Mixed martial arts in Kazakhstan requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Hi Ppt 1973, I have reverted the above edits. Speedy deletion nomination of UFC on ESPN+ 43

[edit]

Hello, Ppt1973,

Welcome to Wikipedia! I edit here too, under the username Fbdave, and I thank you for your contributions.

I wanted to let you know, however, that I have tagged UFC on ESPN+ 43 for deletion, because it doesn't appear to contain any encyclopedic content. You may find our guide for writing quality articles to be extremely informative. Also, you may want to consider working on future articles in draft space first, where they cannot be deleted for lacking content.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top. If the page is already deleted by the time you come across this message and you wish to retrieve the deleted material, please contact the deleting administrator.

For any further query, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Fbdave}}. And, don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ . Thanks!

UFC on ESPN 19

[edit]

Hello, how are you? I'd like to know where did you find a source saying that the December 5 event will be broadcast by ESPN? The only thing I've found in the ESPN website says it will be broadcast by ESPN2 (see here). We had UFC Fight Night: Santos vs. Teixeira and will have UFC Fight Night: Blaydes vs. Lewis being broadcast simuoutaneously by ESPN2 and ESPN+. To avoid new names and confusions (just like when he had Fox Sports 1 and 2), we should keep naming them as Fight Nights. If you have something saying it will be broadcast on main ESPN, then we keep it, otherwise we should revert the title. Thanks! Gsfelipe94 (talk) 20:48, 17 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

ESPN2 events

[edit]

Hello everyone. I brought this issue up at User:Ppt1973 talk page as he was the one who moved the event from UFC Fight Night 185 to UFC on ESPN 19, but he completely ignored me. Therefore, I'm bringing the subject to everyone here. I'll quote my message there with some adjustments: I did not find a reliable source saying that this event will be broadcast by ESPN. I asked him that, but got nothing back as mentioned. The only thing I've found in the ESPN website was that it will be broadcast by ESPN2 (see here). We had UFC Fight Night: Santos vs. Teixeira and will have UFC Fight Night: Blaydes vs. Lewis being broadcast simultaneously by ESPN2 and ESPN+. To avoid new names and confusions (just like when he had Fox Sports 1 and 2), we kept them as Fight Nights. Apparently this one (as of now) will be broadcast solo on ESPN2. We either change those two events to "UFC on ESPN" (which I disagree per what I've just said) or we keep them as Fight Nights, regardless of being simultaneously broadcast in their streaming service (which seems like a better option). I even changed the Template:UFC Events back then: Fight Nights (on ESPN+ or ESPN2). I'd like to hear your thoughts on that as this discussion will mean at least that this event will be renamed or the other two. Thanks. Gsfelipe94 (talk) 23:53, 19 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks @Gsfelipe94: for pinging. I am for your first choice above, being UFC on ESPN, for the continuity of consistent numbering, that is to not break the sequential count. Please see the table below.
List of UFC events
Date Sherdog mmajunkie
November 7, 2020 UFC on ESPN 17: Santos vs. Teixeira UFC on ESPN 17: Santos vs. Teixeira
November 28, 2020 UFC on ESPN 18: Blaydes vs. Lewis UFC on ESPN 18: Blaydes vs. Lewis
Thanks, --Discographer (talk) 00:24, 20 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I second what User:Discographer's table above and including UFC Fight Night 185 to UFC on ESPN 19 by Ppt1973. ESPN+ XX (UFC on ESPN+ XX) = UFC Fight Night XXX; and ESPN XX = UFC on ESPN XX which is the norm and also for the for the continuity of consistent numbering. We have to edit Santos vs. Teixeira and Blaydes vs. Lewis UFC Fight Night events to UFC on ESPN: XXX vs. XXX. I would like to recommend the usual editors who have normally done the same type of edits where by User:Ppt1973 moves and changes all the Event names from UFC Fight Night: Santos vs. Teixeira onwards and also rework on all the fighters' pages on the associated event name which they have fought or are scheduled to fight. User:Gsfelipe94 could help to relink the right event names on the background of the event pages if there is any info to update. I will update all the events name which the fighters have fought or are scheduled to fight on List of current UFC fighters. If we have the agreement here then let Ppt1973 to start the work first then Felipe and I will then edits accordingly as per proposal above. Stay safe everyone and best. There won't be a second time. Gsfelipe94 (talk) 10:02, 21 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with Gsfelipe94. If the event is on ESPN, it should be a UFC on ESPN event. ESPN2 is a different channel entirely, so it should follow the same format of any shows that have appeared on that channel (or ESPN+) in the past. Udar55 (talk) 15:24, 21 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I'm honestly up for either of the proposals. Since main media have been calling the previous two events involved in this situation as "UFC on ESPN", it would be better apparently to follow that direction. Gsfelipe94 (talk) 15:35, 21 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Can you please explain why you chose to blatantly violate MOS:UNITS here? "In non-scientific articles with strong ties to the United States, the primary units are US customary (pounds, miles, feet, inches, etc.)". Customary units must at least be mentioned, so your removal of them is inexcusable.--Jasper Deng (talk) 19:46, 20 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ppt1973, Good day. When the UFN change to UFC on ESPN or UFC on ABC, pls moved the pageinstead of create a new page so the history log/page of the page can be kept. If we keep the check on "leave a redirect behind" we could still have the original page. We could move the page name back to UFN 191 and then cut and page UFN 192 content to UFN 191 and and UFN 193 content to UFN 192 so on and so forth. This is my thought, if you think differently, then let me know. Cassiopeia(talk) 01:14, 29 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know what your intention was with this edit, but overwriting an existing article and attempting to turn it into a single year isn't the way forward. Please don't do that again. --Hammersoft (talk) 14:15, 25 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
