Norwegian footballers

[edit]

Hi there. I just want to let you know that I think you do a good job writing about Norwegian footballers. Most of the articles are mostly "X is a Norwegian footballers playing for Y in Tippeligaen" with an infobox, so your work is much appreciated. But your large use of match reports as references is somewhat strange to me, as a match report only can tell you (atleast those from altomfotball.no) that Valon Berisha scored a goal, not that he scored his first in that match, or that Daniel Berntsen come on as a substitute in the 63rd minute, not that it was his debut. I sometimes do it myself, but that is only if I can't find any other refs that suits the text.

Speaking of Berntsen, per WP:NFOOTY footballers need to have played in a fully professional league (Tippeligaen not Adeccoligaen) to meet wikipedias notability guidelines, and that means that he is not notable for an article on wikipedia and that it could be deleted. Berntsen will probably make his professional debut in one of the first rounds of 2012 Tippeligaen, and he might meet another notability guideline (WP:GNG), but next time you make an article about a footballer that haven't played in Tippeligaen I would advise you to start it in your userspace (User:Pandaldinho/Daniel Berntsen), and move it to the mainspace as soon as he makes his professional debut. I've created an article about Sean Cunningham (youngster at Molde) in my userspace (User:Mentoz86/Sean Cunningham (soccer)) and will move it as soon as he plays a match in Tippeligaen. Hi. When you recently edited Valon Berisha, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Kosovar (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

April 2012

[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Please be aware of Wikipedia's policy that biographical information about living persons must not include unsupported or inaccurate statements. Whenever you add possibly controversial statements about a living person to an article or any other Wikipedia page, as you did to Harmeet Singh, you must include proper sources. If you don't know how to cite a source, you may want to read Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners for guidelines. Thank you. GiantSnowman 12:21, 11 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

GiantSnowman, on the page you posted through the template, it is written "Contentious material about living persons (or recently deceased) that is unsourced or poorly sourced—whether the material is negative, positive, neutral, or just questionable—should be removed immediately and without waiting for discussion." I don't find the career stats table in Harmeet Singh's article contentious, and have readded it with a unreferenced section tag. I don't believe removal of all unsourced content in Wikipedia is the forward. Instead I would give credits to Pandaldinho for the work on the table - with a reference this would be perfect. Mentoz86 (talk)
Mentoz - all unreferenced information should be challenged and/or removed; having had very bad experiences with previous editors adding false stats to footballer articles (one has been banned and returns with socks, I think you may have joined WP:FOOTBALL after all the drama) so I chose to remove this. If you can find a reference, please add it as soon as you can. GiantSnowman 18:08, 11 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Selnæs

[edit]

Great job on Selnæs' article. I now see that the last sentance in the early career miss a ref, and that's my fault, but the thing is that I read that exact sentance somewhere but now I can't find it again. :) Norwegian football is not very good covered on English wiki, so I would encourage you to create/expand another handful of player-articles (like you already did with Berisha, Henriksen, Berntsen). As a native English-speaker who understands Norwegian, your contributions in this matter is very valuable. I was also wondering if you could help out on a couple of articles: First off: I've expanded Harald Aabrekk's article and nominated it for DYK, but the article "really needs some copyediting by a native English speaker" so maybe you could help out? Secondly: After the recent "chaos" about Molde and Solskjær, I was wondering if you could add a paragraph in the history-section of Molde FK about this with English sources, as it's recommended to use English sources over foreign-language sources, and you might be better to find English source, and I'll add up with Norwegian sources if needed. Cheers, Mentoz86 (talk) 20:07, 23 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Just so you know, I've created List of Norwegian football transfers summer 2012 (with your preferred design) :P. So far it's quite incomplete, but feel free to add transfers to the list. Mentoz86 (talk) 10:06, 12 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not add or change content without verifying it by citing reliable sources, as you did to Omar Elabdellaoui. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources and take this opportunity to add references to the article. Thank you. GiantSnowman 08:14, 23 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Invite to the African Destubathon

[edit]

Hi. You may be interested in participating in the African Destubathon which starts on October 15. Africa currently has over 37,000 stubs and badly needs a quality improvement editathon/contest to flesh out basic stubs. There are proposed substantial prizes to give to editors who do the most articles, and planned smaller prizes for doing to most destubs for each of the 53 African countries, so should be enjoyable! So it would be a good chance to win something for improving stubs on African sportspeople, including footballers, athletes, Olympians and Paralympians etc, particularly female ones, but also male. Even if contests aren't your thing we would be grateful if you could consider destubbing a few African articles during the drive to help the cause and help reduce the massive 37,000 + stub count, of which many are rated high importance (think Regions of countries etc). If you're interested in competing or just loosely contributing a few expanded articles on African Paralympians, Olympians and committees etc, please add your name to the Contestants/participants section. Diversity of work from a lot of people will make this that bit more special. Thanks. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:13, 6 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. We're into the last five days of the Women in Red World Contest. There's a new bonus prize of $200 worth of books of your choice to win for creating the most new women biographies between 0:00 on the 26th and 23:59 on 30th November. If you've been contributing to the contest, thank you for your support, we've produced over 2000 articles. If you haven't contributed yet, we would appreciate you taking the time to add entries to our articles achievements list by the end of the month. Thank you, and if participating, good luck with the finale!
