X on Java

[edit]

Nad,

No, the only things that I found relevant were:

None of them satisfied all of my requirements (Java, BSD or Apache license, X11 server). Did you find anything? jdstroy 00:37, 16 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No, that weird-x was technically exactly what we wanted, except for the closed-source problem. It would be really good to be able to serve any applications over the web to clients with a standard browser, rather than having to choose from only web-based apps. --Nad 04:20, 16 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I agree, it is unfortunate. X on Java is far better suited than webapps for many situations, especially for front-ends. You may also be interested in Hummingbird Exceed; I recall that Exceed had a web-edition, but it is also closed-source and also Windows-specific. JCraft releases WeirdX and WiredX, and WeirdX is GPL (I mistakenly linked both to WiredX last time; correction made). You can ask if the author is willing to release it under BSD or the Apache Software License, but I've the feeling that it won't happen. jdstroy 04:09, 10 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of Bayeux (distributed application). ~ Jafet (spam) 14:59, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
