Here's wishing you a belated welcome to Wikipedia, MauriceBer! I see that you've already been around a while and wanted to thank you for your contributions. An article you recently created, L'île du Sud (South Island, l'île Boisées), is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more in-depth coverage about the subject itself, with citations from reliable, independent sources in order to show it meets WP:GNG. It should have at least three, and right now it does not have any. And please remember that interviews, as primary sources, do not count towards GNG.(?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page.Onel5969 TT me 11:07, 14 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Thank you. It is an island in a unique area of biodiversity and notable in this respect. I will try to put more on this. A Vessel has just foundered around it on the reef putting its unique biodiversity, land and sea at risk. MauriceBer (talk) 10:41, 15 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

L'Île Coco and L'île du Sud

[edit]

These appear to be the same island. Am I wrong? Abductive (reasoning) 18:11, 20 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Thank you for the input. Good point but someone involuntarily confused them at some stage. Coco (not currently inhabited) is much bigger and is north of Ile du Sud (inhabited and helped to save 20 souls on a grounded fishing boat on 5 December 2022) and is more wooded than IDS and has many more birds and is much bigger. From Google maps: Coco to Ile du Sud 20 kms and coordinates Île du Sud (South Island, AKA l'île Boisées) 16°48′55″S 59°30′09″E ;Coco Island (AKA Île Cocos, Île aux Cocos) 16°48′56″S 59°30′09″E, 0.5 km2 (0.19 sq mi). Hope that helps. Thank You! MauriceBer (talk) 04:32, 21 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, MauriceBer. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Jean-Raymond Boulle, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Edwardx (talk) 09:23, 21 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. Understood. I am not paid nor do I request to be paid for my contributions but carry out research and do pro bono work to educate and inform through my research. There is no FOIA in Mauritius and this sometimes makes it opaque. MauriceBer (talk) 11:45, 21 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Control copyright icon Hello MauriceBer! Your additions to L'Île Coco have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Please see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. See also Help:Translation#License requirements.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, please ask them here on this page, or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 22:05, 21 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

A barnstar for you!

[edit]
The Original Barnstar
Thank you for your articles related to the St. Brandon archipelago! I did not even know it existed until stumbled upon an article, just to fix a table. By the way, do you think it would be possible to create an article for Raphael Fishing Company itself? Right now all information about this strange company, its history and the extraordinary legal regime is scattered across a veritable archipelago of articles. – Finnusertop (talkcontribs) 11:48, 8 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes! I don't do how to transfer it to Raphael Fishing Company. I am a newbie doing a lot of research over the holidays but don't know how to do this. Can you do it and/ or tell me how to do it. This is a very important subject for the future of conservation in Mauritius. MauriceBer (talk) 11:51, 8 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Raphael Fishing Company redirects to St. Brandon. How do I delete the redirect and put-up Raphael Fishing Company? MauriceBer (talk) 14:02, 8 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I think you need to delete the redirect, please. Thank you. MauriceBer (talk) 14:21, 8 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, MauriceBer! I did not realize you were already one step ahead with creating Raphael Fishing Co. This is okay. I've asked Raphael Fishing Company to be deleted and someone will move your article under that title. You don't have to do anything with the move process, just keep up your good work and continue writing as usual. It is truly a fascinating topic. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask me. We've all been newbies once! – Finnusertop (talkcontribs) 12:36, 9 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Mr Barnstar, Fantastic! You really motivate me to contribute! I am going blind at the moment from all the research but small price to pay... MauriceBer (talk) 13:22, 9 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Raphael Fishing Co., you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Saint Brandon. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)
