Hello Lomn,

Thanks for sharing your savvy regarding Wiki Style & Markup etc.

All the best to you and yours. Richard s Richard s 06:10, 17 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Not really

[edit]

Per WP:NOT, advertising is inappropriate on Wikipedia. Using userspace as a stealth ad and linking it from dozens of other pages, therefore, is not good. Radiant_>|< 13:28, August 18, 2005 (UTC)

  • (please sign your posts on talk pages). Do a 'whatlinkshere' on Wikinerd's page to see the advertising campaign he's engaged in - that's what makes it a special case. I've asked him about this on his talk page to discuss the issue; I'm simply awaiting his response for now. Radiant_>|< 13:43, August 18, 2005 (UTC)
    • Yes, that's the idea. If he'd stop linking it from a number of high-visibility daily debates, he can advertise in his userspace all he wants. Also, as some other users have pointed out, if he wants to copy our pages to his own site he should simply do that. Radiant_>|< 14:09, August 18, 2005 (UTC)

[edit]
Updated DYK query Did you know? has been updated. A fact from the article Day beacon, which you recently created, has been featured in that section on the Main Page. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently-created article, then please suggest it on the "Did you know?" talk page.

Before I was able to use the "history eraser button," I got credited for a few of these things.  :) All a matter of timing, but thank you very much not only for your concern but for your help in tagging and bagging that kind of nonsense. This guy seems to beb behaving like a jerk, but nonetheless, Wikipedia:Please do not bite the newcomers. I have had experience with a couple of newbies who have come onto Wikipedia all bluster and fist-waving, but then they calm down once they're shown how to behave. Let's try to coach this guy instead of alienate him. If he doesn't respond positively to coaching, then we nuke him. Regards, Ground Zero 20:58, 24 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Okey. Letting suspicions get a bit ahead of me, I guess, though some of it's just general terseness. — Lomn | Talk / RfC 21:05:28, 2005-08-24 (UTC)

Alleged vandalism.

[edit]

I have removed one article, the "alternative metal" one. This is because it is a non-existant genre. There is no use having a non-existant genre described and having it mis-inform people about the truth. This is not vandalism. If I was to remove articles for no reason, then you'd have a case.

Studio System

[edit]

Thanks for doing the stub... The original redirect to Hollywood was in response to an Auteur theory edit and talk page discussion, but I couldn't let it stand and was planning on coming back to it. Although a redirect to nothing isn't great, I didn't want someone to think that the Hollywood article dealt with the notion of "studio system" in any meaningful way. Anyway, now you've put the stub up, and hopefully this can be expanded. Thanks NYArtsnWords 06:13, 3 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

My articles

[edit]

Well, you were damn right, my articles on myself, the Axis Pub, my band, and all the rest do need to be deleted. I actually admit I did this to gain readership for my blog and members for my site, not to mention to make my band popular. Also, I did this so I could show my friends an article about myself of Wikipedia. Actually, I revised everything about Third Rebellion, but I would like it to be deleted until we have sucess. I also want all the crap about my forum and blog deleted. Also, delete all of it about Trevor Meiste and Tobias Franz (to-ku as well) and Joe Jonker, who are just some of my friends. Actually, I am a libertarian activist, so I want to keep my bio up, though revise it a bit. Included will be external links to my sites and my band, but they do not deserve their own wikipedia page. Well, feel free to delete the rest.

A proposed Wikiproject:American football

[edit]

I noticed that you wrote on your User:Lomn/Wikiproject:American football that "I don't, however, have any idea about how to set up such a deal". Is it that you don't know how to set up a Wikiproject in general? Or just that you are not sure how to organize your proposed new Wikiproject:American football?

Be sure to read Wikipedia:WikiProject and Wikipedia:WikiProject best practices. And just so you know, when I first started Wikipedia:WikiProject National Football League, I used the following as models:

WP:CP

[edit]

Hi, you've reported copyright infringements to WP:CP in the last week, a new measure was recently passed to allow the speedy deltion of new pages that are cut and paste copyvios. Please follow these instructions if you come across this type of copyvio. Thanks. --nixie 00:00, 6 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Blatant copyright infringements may now be "speedied"

If an article and all its revisions are unquestionably copied from the website of a commercial content provider and there is no assertion of permission, ownership or fair use and none seems likely, and the article is less than 48 hours old, it may be speedily deleted. See CSD A8 for full conditions.

After notifying the uploading editor by using wording similar to:

{{nothanks-sd|pg=page name|url=url of source}} -- ~~~~

Blank the page and replace the text with

{{db-copyvio|url=url of source}}

to the article in question, leaving the content visible. An administrator will examine the article and decide whether to speedily delete it or not.

Reference Desk

[edit]

Please do not bite the newbies at the RD, there's no call for either the "dead question" box or posting anonymous IP addresses there. Poorly formatted anonymous questions are welcome, even if they can become frustrating. — Lomn | Talk / RfC 13:58, 18 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Why not? I'm sorry, but if you take a look at the top of each page, you'll find instructions on hoow to use this page. Unless observation of these rules is somehow encouraged, this page will continue to be an embarassment to WIkipedia.
The concept of a Reference desk is brilliant, but allowing non-questions such as "enviroment and its relation with geography" is rediculous and does not appear professional. Questions such as "How does a barometer work?" are atleast phrased properly, although the user clearly did not read the instructions either. And please, if you disagree, discuss the matter on Wikipedia talk:Reference desk. -- Ec5618 15:41, 18 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Don't censor me

[edit]

How dare your remove my answer at RD!!? WP needs political censors like we need vandals. Actually what is the difference? You had every right to express disagreement, but not to censor me. Please replace my answer with an apology and I will assume you are new here and don't understand that that was an extremely offensive and uncalled for edit that violates both rules and spirit around here. alteripse 23:35, 26 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

You are simply wrong. I answered the question with a historical account and parallel. It was certainly partly opinion, but so was the answer you left there. You selectively removed my opinion and left the one you agree with. This is called vandalism. Again I will patiently point out that you selectively removed my opinion based a misunderstanding of the ref desk policy. Look at the ref desk talk page and you will see support for this. Do not threaten to continue to censor me. You have no right to do that. You leave my answers on the ref desk alone and I will leave yours. alteripse 01:37, 28 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

You have no right to selectively remove opinion you do not agree with. Do you really not understand that a large percentage of RD answers involve opinion and pov speculation? My answer was an exact and precise combination of fact and opinion that provided an answer to the question asked. I dont give a flying f__ whether you agreed with it or know enough history to understand it; every historical fact was supportable. You were welcome to offer your own opinion, not to censor mine. Your action degraded the quality of answers at the RD and my editing experience here. Most of the other RD editors did not support what you did. If you are one of those people who can't handle admitting a mistake or apologizing, then don't, but don't touch my RD edits again. alteripse 09:51, 28 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

As you saw at the RD, others think you are not accurately drawing the line between a "soapbox" and an opinion. As far as I can tell from what you have done and said, a "soapbox" is simply an opinion that disagrees with yours. In my eyes, a "soapbox" would be a political polemic unrelated to answering the question. I have been answering questions at the RD far longer than you have and am not there to push my political opinion. However I have no problem providing it as an integral part of a direct and appropriate answer. Two separate inquirers have asked how people could possibly imagine a draft, and my point was that we are experiencing many of the steps that led historically to the last draft. That was a direct, relevant answer. You may disagree with me about how probable a draft is, the degree of mendacity and dishonesty in the current administration, or even whether a draft would be a good thing, and you are welcome to say you disagree. It wouldn't occur to me to censor your answer, and that is exactly the appropriate word for what you did, because you didn't touch any of the other pov opinions on the same page. I will assume I have made my point. alteripse 00:09, 29 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

World Financial Group

[edit]

Apparently you are changing the text of the World Financial Group information. May I dispute some of your claims that you present as facts but are severely misleading??

1. WFG was not previously known as World Lending Group. 2. WFG Registered Reps are not registered with the "co-owned" World Lending Group. 3. The business is NOT widely described as a fraudulent pyramid scheme. That opinion is held by only a small number of individuals. Pyramid Schemes and legitimate MLM companies (even Hybrid MLMs) are COMPLETELY different. 4. The statement that Hubert Humphrey sold the company to AEGON because of the Money Magazine article is not a fact but mere heresay because it happened around the same year (but presented as fact). 5. Critics say that WFG's business model is a scam and fraudulent... but they offer not proof as to why or how it is fraudulent. 6. WFG does push recruiting because it needs to grow to meet the demand but it also pushes training quite aggressively by offering classes with product providers, estate planners, attorneys, and other guest speakers at our meetings. 7. They claim that WFG has lower returns on its policies than are normal for comparable products. This is a blatant lie. WFGs policies and products, especially the WRL VUL, have the best performing sub accounts in the entire industry.

Please respond... especially to #7. Where did you dig up this false information?

World Financial Group

[edit]

I can not believe your ignorance on World Financial Group. I have never read anything so incorrect in my life. Why have you let one single persons perspective on a company rule the way you have edited the page. You want to talk about vandalism, lets talk about someone that keeps reverting a page back to mere lies. You allow it to start out saying it is multi level, which is impossible for a securities company to be multi level. It is against NASD and SEC standards. Yet you have allowed that statement Lomn.

World Lending Group has nothing to do with World Financial Group and if you read your article closely you will see how you have conterdicted yourself about World Lending Group.

How could you allow third party individuals of hate right an article about a certaion company?? What would you find if you went to fordsucks.com or walmartsucks.com. Should you allow the people of those sites to be the only opinion expressed here on wikipedia???

We need to get this cleaned up and straighten up your facts, because as of right now you have none of the correct. There have been great various npov things written, and you people on your high horses keep reverting them back to nonsense.

What needs to be done to get this fixed???

I've restored the proposed deletion tag at the above article. WP:WEB has a couple of relevant notes, I feel.

  1. Trivial coverage, such as... a brief summary of the nature of the content does not meet the notability criteria. I feel a sub-3:00 item falls under this, particularly when the alternate example given is that of a television documentar[y].
  2. The guideline that [t]he article itself must provide proof that its subject meets one of these criteria via inlined links or a "Reference" or "External link" section.

These points should be addressed clearly before removing the {{prod}} tag. — Lomn Talk 21:22, 14 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

So, do you have any suggestions specific to the article & website that I could use to improve the article enough to remove the tag? Apparently, I'm not getting help from anyone else here. JSYK, there are 34,600 results from the start and 347 hits at the end. --Shultz III 21:39, 14 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, this has to go to AFD. Under no circumstances can a {{prod}} tag be reinserted, even if it was removed by the creator. It's only for clearly uncontested deletions. I'll go ahead and list it there. (ESkog)(Talk) 21:41, 14 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Are you an admin, Lomn? If so, a little help?

[edit]

An admin by the name of User:Freakofnurture seems to have had a really bad time lately and when I try to reason with him and make him feel better towards me, nothing good came out of it. Evidently, other parts of his life landed him "on the warpath", therefore, he has gotten enraged at me for comparatively small things. I just don't see how any of the things he saw me do, offended him.

I got worried when I messaged him in IRC the other day but he never replied. He reverted an edit of mine (even though it fit the subject), so I decided to leave a message on his user talk page. As I'll post below, I was trying to make him feel better, at least towards me (although I guess I tried to make him feel better overall.) See? It just blows up in my face. Then he tells me to leave him alone. Not only did that throw me into a depression, if he wants me to leave him alone, then he should do the same to me by not watching and going after my edits. As of right now, if he goes after my edits in any way, he just reminds me of how he so bluntly and uncompassionately shunned me, ignored me, and did exactly the opposite of what I wanted from him.

I was about to post it onto WP:RFC but a guideline states that at least two people had to fail to resolve a dispute first.

So to kind of reiterate: What I want is for Freakofnurture to treat me in any way that doesn't invoke negative feelings in me, or if he still wants to leave me alone, for Freakofnurture to let another admin watch my edits and go after them if necessary. In any case, I don't want to feel hated nor shunned by this guy for any reason, even whenever I simply see his name. --Shultz III 06:01, 15 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Here is the conversation between him and I. In what sentences did I mistakenly make him feel worse?:

Bad Mood?

You seem to be in a bad mood constantly, starting from that one night. You never responded to my PMs on the IRC chat, and I saw your userpage. Is something bugging you in real life? I hope things get better for you man. --Shultz III 04:44, 15 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
