Backgroud information

[edit]

Dear Mr HurricaneEdgar

Do you really think the background information i copied to the volcano article is not necessary, or did you just think it needed to be cited correctly? I think the background information about the location of the island and its geology is essential to understanding the volcanic eruption! Otherwise, why have any background section at all?

irishbugs--Irishbugs (talk) 13:24, 17 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

the background section is fist eruption of Hunga Tonga in year 2021, i rv your edit cause is unlesssary adding the article (copy the volcano article) see e.g (2020–2021 Taal Volcano eruptions, 2011 eruption of Grímsvötn) HurricaneEdgar 13:28, 17 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Those two articles do not have special background sections. Also were probably not of similar global news / links from main page, which would bring a different type of user (like me!) to this page seeking that type of infomration. I continue to think this information is germane to this article. I added a section to the article's talk section, will see if others have opinions and i will abide by the consensus there. Request

[edit]

Hello.

What is the Volcanic Explosivity Index of the 2022 eruption of Hunga Tonga? From the satellite photos and ground photos, the explosion looks large and powerful. Can you add the VEI in the article, in case you find sources about it? I could not find one yet.

Yours sincerely, 31.200.15.32 (talk) 09:45, 19 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thank your message here fist of all there is no confimation on the VEI as now. see (https://volcano.si.edu/volcano.cfm?vn=243040). HurricaneEdgar 09:48, 19 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the information and source. An update and confirmation about the VEI from Smithsonian is necessary, if I am not mistaken.
One last request: In the Hunga Tonga–Hunga Haʻapai article, the island/s are referred to in the past tense, but according to sources, both islands still exist above sea level on a much reduced scale after the last big eruption. Can you check it and correct the article, in case that is the case? Of course being an ongoing event, the two reduced islands might disppear during another eruption or through erosion. Here is a source: https://www.bbc.com/news/science-environment-60029815. --31.200.15.32 (talk) 10:04, 19 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

So about the 2021-22 Southwest Indian Ocean season

[edit]

The Record Latest date (non 2021-22) i could find for a SWIO season is the 1997-98 SWIO Season, and it says that the first system in general Started January 16th, the first system listed is January 16th The First SWIO season for 2021-22 in general formed on January 20, 2021 so why doesnt that deserve the record latest tag if it was indeed the record latest based on the fact that this is the latest date I could find starting a SWIO Season. 17:43, 21 January 2022 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by CarterStormTracking (talkcontribs)

About this edit

Dude IMD haven't even said that it has intenstified into a cyclonic storm. That was the forecast and that's just a blatant WP:CRYSTAL. Check the Tropical Weather Outlook and the National Bulletin. Beraniladri19 🌀🌀 03:41, 8 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

So IMD state is wrong?

♦ Deep Depression over Southwest Bay of Bengal near latitude 10.8°N and longitude 90.1°E, about 300 km west-southwest of Port Blair (Andaman Islands). To move northwestwards and intensify into a Cyclonic Storm over southeast Bay of Bengal in the morning of 8th May HurricaneEdgar 03:45, 8 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

It's a forecast, IMD haven't stated whether it had become a cyclonic storm or not. Can't we just wait for 03z for the new update to arrive ? Beraniladri19 🌀🌀 03:47, 8 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

You know DDGMUI is confusing. You guys used this site and told that "IMD has declared it a depression" but after seeing the official update at 06z, which stated "LPA has intenstified into a WML". Painting depicting two nude men in combat in Hell, one biting the other's neck, being observed by Dante and Virgil

The Divine Comedy is an Italian narrative poem by Dante Alighieri, begun around 1308 and completed in around 1321, shortly before the author's death. The poem's imaginative vision of the afterlife is representative of the medieval worldview as it existed in the Western Church by the 14th century. It helped establish the Tuscan dialect, in which it is written, as the standardized Italian language. It is divided into three parts: Inferno, Purgatorio and Paradiso. The subject of the narrative is the state of the soul after death and presents an image of divine justice meted out as due punishment or reward. In the poem, Dante travels through Hell, Purgatory and Heaven, and is accompanied by three guides: the Roman poet Virgil (who accompanies him for all of Hell and most of Purgatory), Dante's muse Beatrice (at the end of Purgatory and for most of Heaven) and Saint Bernard of Clairvaux (who guides him in the final cantos of Heaven).

This oil-on-canvas painting, titled Dante and Virgil and completed by the French artist William-Adolphe Bouguereau in 1850, depicts Dante with Virgil observing two damned souls in eternal combat in Hell. Capocchio, an alchemist and heretic, is being bitten on the neck by the trickster Gianni Schicchi, who had used fraud to claim another man's inheritance. The painting now hangs in the Musée d'Orsay in Paris.

Painting credit: William-Adolphe Bouguereau

WikiProject Weather: Map Dot & Template/Infobox Colors

[edit]

Dear project member, This message is being sent out to encourage new ideas and feedback on those proposed in regard to the colors debate for WikiProject Weather. For those who are unaware of what's been happening over the last year, I will give a brief summary. We have been discussing proposed changes to the colors of the dots on tropical cyclone maps and templates and infoboxes across the entire weather project in order to solve issues related to the limited contrast between colors for both normal vision as well as the various types of color blindness (MOS:ACCESS). We had partially implemented a proposal earlier this year, however, it was objected to by a number of people and additional issues were presented that made it evident this wasn't the optimal solution. We tried to come up with other solutions to address the issues related to color contrast, however, none of them gained traction and no consensus was generated.

We need your help and I encourage you to propose your own scale and give feedback on those already listed. Keep in mind that we are NOT making a decision on any individual proposal at this time. We are simply allowing people to make proposals and cultivate them given feedback from other project members. Please visit our project page for additional details. The proposal phase will close no later than December 31st at 23:59 UTC. NoahTalk 03:50, 21 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Don't use your sandbox as attribution

[edit]

Linking pages as a form of attribution is done since it's expected that an article will remain in mainspace for a long period of time. This does not apply to user sandboxes. Unless you plan on freezing your sandbox and make no further removals from it (which I doubt), you are highly recommended not to link to your sandbox as a form of attribution (especially without providing a permanent link, as you did here) as the content there is expected to be moved, replaced, or deleted. As an alternative, you can instead insert content with a list of authors or link to the original season page and waive attribution entirely (but this only applies if you are the sole editor of the newly-added content, like in this edit). Speedy deletion contested: Draft:Tropical Storm Yamaneko (2022)

[edit]

Hello HurricaneEdgar. I am just letting you know that I contested the speedy deletion of Draft:Tropical Storm Yamaneko (2022), a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: If it is a hoax, it's not unambiguous enough to fall under G3. "BoM's"

[edit]

The possessive is not appropriate here. I have had to remove your additions of this multiple times now. Please stop writing "BoM's" instead of simply "BoM" as you did here. Protip: if expanding an abbreviation or acronym results in bad grammar for a given sentence, that sentence's grammar is not correct with the abbreviation in either. ArbCom 2022 Elections voter message

[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2022 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 12 December 2022. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2022 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 01:48, 29 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Please use edit summaries to describe your edits.

[edit]

Thank you for your work on the 2022 eruption of Mauna Loa article. When editing that article myself, I noticed that you often don't provide an edit summary to describe your edits. While there are some situations where an edit summary might not be necessary, in general they are a good tool to allow other editors to better understand your changes. Due to this, I would ask that you take advantage of this feature more often, including on the above article. Thanks. Rainclaw7 (talk) 12:00, 30 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Just the type of thing my headline alludes to and done in humour... Have you and the team seen;

The first published RS was [1] and this deeper analyses on one of the subjects [2]both of which reference this tweet from Russia [3] and both determine it is Russian propaganda re Crimea and JT's opposition to their illegal act in 2014, both determine it is deliberate and diversionary, they also add some background, then list the statues involved in this deceptive and misleading style of undue weight on the Nazi activities of these persons, subsequent these memorials were vandalised, however for completeness and truth it must be mentioned, but not without some balance to avoid UNDUE etc. I have bookmarked and will return, if at a later date under a different (somewhat similar though) IP. Hey there, HurricaneEdgar! I am hoping to nominate this for a possible GA very soon. However, per WP:GAN/I#N1, I must secure the assents of the significant contributors of the article before nominating. It looks like you are a significant contributor to the article per XTools, so I brought this topic to you for the securing of your assent in order to nominate. It also states If you are not a significant contributor to the article, you must secure the assent of the significant contributors before nominating. Technically, I am not a significant contributor as you have nearly twice the amount of edits I have (26–12). So, I figured I would bring this to your attention. Thanks! JTWC pressure

[edit]

We will be including JTWC pressure in infoboxes from now on along with winds and pressures given by other agencies. This is to show the different perspectives that agencies may have. NoahTalk 11:13, 13 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Hurricane Noah: No, we need consensus for that. Please start a discussion project-wide.--Jasper Deng (talk) 21:45, 13 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Jasper Deng: We already got consensus to use the infobox which had that set up for that purpose. It was always part of the design for these values to be used. I see no reason for a separate consensus to be required to use a part of an infobox that was pre-existing when it was approved for usage via RfC. NoahTalk 22:00, 13 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Hurricane Noah: In this case, unless the consensus explicitly supports it, this is a WP:CONLEVEL change on the use of RSMC data and requires another discussion.--Jasper Deng (talk) 22:19, 13 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
There is no consensus on using the JTWC pressure. it will cause confuse the reader as to whether this is true the estimated. HurricaneEdgar 04:39, 14 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Japanese nationalist editor - Please help

I was RC patrolling and found a bunch of pretty explicit Japanese Nationalist and Yamato Supremacist content on Soh Ohba and tried to remove it but an IP just put it back up. Its not strict vandalism so I can't just take it back down without violating 3rr. I am still relatively new to wikipedia and am not very well versed in the nuances of WP:DUE, WP:NPOV, etc and honestly I don't have the emotional energy to deal with this properly, but just ignoring it would damage the integrity of the project. Otis 12hour record

[edit]

The 12-hour enhancement record was never mentioned in the article! Are you sure you read it all when you want to delete it? Vệ Thần - Talk 06:35, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Final-Fantasy-HH The 24 hour rapid record from TS to CAT 5 hurricane has been mentioned in the article; it would be unnecessary into the article. HurricaneEdgar 07:01, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
There is a huge difference between 12hour and 24hour, because Otis is slower than Patricia at 24hour, but at 12hour, Otis is the record holder. Philip Klotzbach made this assessment on Twitter. Vệ Thần - Talk 10:08, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You undid one of my edits i did on Cyclone Peter previously. Merges

[edit]

When proposing merges, could you please use "merge from" instead of "merge" on the pages that are receiving the content? Using "merge" messes up the article alerts page and says there are three articles being merged when it's actually just one. I adjusted the templates on the season pages. Noah, AATalk 12:31, 4 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hey there, I see you're working on Cyclone Freddy. You're adding a lot to the meteorological history, but that's not necessary, since there's already an article specifically for the meteorological history. I hate to ask, but would you mind reverting your recent edits to the met history? All of that said, I really do appreciate you working on Freddy, since that was one of the most important storms of the year last year. I just read through the article, and I was surprised how good of shape it is in. That being said, the most likely thing that's missing is more longterm aftermath, which basically only goes up to March 2023. Have you heard of the website ReliefWeb? You'll be able to find a ton of information there (which, forewarning, is more going to be information overload). It's a little tricky parsing through all of the sources and figuring out what's actually important versus what's a really minor update that's barely even worth mentioning. I hate to presume, but are you trying to get Freddy to good or featured article status? ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 03:27, 4 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hahahaha, I have no plan to nominate the article. I've 'added the met history to clarify that before he became category 5, it was weak and made landfall, but Freddy is an important system due to its records. Sorry for being late in replying. I'm currently at school STI College. HurricaneEdgar 13:02, 4 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I've heard I was using that website way back last year. when I am still updating on the aftermath of the storm, and yes, there is hundred-tone information on that website. HurricaneEdgar 13:25, 4 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Aww that's too bad, since Freddy is one of the most important storms of the decade, and it would be great if it was featured eventually. But my point remains about Freddy, I think there's a bit too much met history, since there is already a met history article. The bit about Freddy in AUS is especially bloated, which I realize now you didn't do, but since you're already working on the article, I figured I'd ask your thoughts. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 19:00, 5 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Cyclone Djoungou

[edit]

FYI in their final advisory the JTWC placed Djoungou's final position at 29.8S 92.0E which is inside the Aus Region and stated that it had become a subtropical cyclone. As a result, we have to mention Djoungou in the Aus region even though AFAIK the BoM did not classify it as 08U.Jason Rees (talk) 01:58, 21 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Have the boundaries for the Australian region changed for some reason since I last checked? As the final advisory from the JTWC placed Djoungou at 29.8S 92.0E, which is inside the Australian Region and means that it had to stay as a part of the season even though the BoM did not assign a number.Jason Rees (talk) 16:01, 18 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Upon the cyclone entering the region, I realized that it should stay since the JTWC placed Djoungou. Apologize for the quick removal. HurricaneEdgar 16:05, 18 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Category:2024 Pacific typhoon season indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.

Message delivered by ChristieBot, on behalf of Hurricanehink -- Hurricanehink (talk) 03:24, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for working on such an important article! I saw your edits, and thought they were generally productive. The only thing I thought might warrant changing is moving the retirement to the beginning of the aftermath, and moving records to the met history, since all records have to do with the storm's track/intensity (and not record damage). Other than that, I'm curious what you think the article needs before GAN? ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 18:00, 3 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Adding a bit more to explain the question: it's usual to get consensus on the talk page from main contributors before nominating, and you're a main contributor.
