A tag has been placed on Ariel Sands (disambiguation) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G6 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an orphaned disambiguation page which either

  • disambiguates two or fewer extant Wikipedia pages and whose title ends in "(disambiguation)" (i.e., there is a primary topic); or
  • disambiguates no (zero) extant Wikipedia pages, regardless of its title.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time. Please see the disambiguation page guidelines for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Clarification request for orphaned disambiguation page

[edit]

Sorry about the mix-up. If I'm understanding correctly, the page was tagged as an orphan because it only contained a link to one of the topics listed.

If I create articles for those two other topics, would there be a problem re-creating the disambiguation page afterwards? Hertzfeldt (talk) 22:08, 26 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The entire purpose of a disambiguation page is to disambiguate articles on similarly-named topics. If we have but one article, there's no need to disambiguate. If the other Ariel Sands are also notable and we get articles on them, we may need the disambiguation page, and re-creating it would not be a problem. Huon (talk) 22:19, 26 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Huon: Thank you for clarifying. Even if placeholder disambiguation pages were allowed (which I guess is what I was trying to create), I see why the notability of the topics listed there would need to be established. I think one of the topics in question (the Ariel Sands resort) would be easy, but the other one (the actress) is proving difficult. Thanks for the reminder.
