I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{help me}} before the question. Again, welcome! Your username

[edit]

Are you Dr. Henry Heimlich, the man best known for developing the Heimlich maneuver? If you are... welcome to Wikipedia! If not, though, our username rules won't allow you to use his name as your username. If you'd like to change, you can officially change your username here, or, since this account is so new, you could just abandon it and start a different one. -FisherQueen (talk · contribs) 21:40, 10 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed, welcome here. If you're Henry Heimlich, then just keep your username.
You may not realize it, but we have some guidelines about editing when one has a conflict of interest. It is very important that you familiarize yourself with this material, since violations can get you blocked rather quickly. We'd rather you stay and become an editor.
You will also need to familiarize yourself with our WP:NPOV policy. Because of it, this article contains both positive and negative information, and your COI might incline you to seek removal of the negative material. We can't do that. It can be discussed, but such material is usually required content when it is properly sourced and framed.
While the COI guideline doesn't absolutely forbid you to edit the article, it's really a bad idea to do so, so use this talk page to make suggestions and let other editors discuss them, and then let them carry out whatever the consensus of editors decides to do with your suggestions. If you have specific concerns, let us know them and we'll be glad to work with you. -- Brangifer (talk) 00:09, 11 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
This account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because the username, Henry Heimlich, matches the name of a well-known, living person.

If you are the person represented by this username, please note that the practice of blocking such usernames is to protect you from being impersonated, not to discourage you from editing Wikipedia. You are welcome to continue to edit under this username, but we ask the following:

  1. Please be willing and able to prove your identity to Wikipedia.
  2. Please send an e-mail to info-en@wikimedia.org. Be aware that the volunteer response team that handles e-mail is indeed operated entirely by volunteers, and the reply may not be immediate.

If you are not the person represented by this username, you are welcome to choose a new username (see below).

A username should not be promotional, related to a "real-world" group or organization, misleading, offensive, or disruptive. Also, usernames may not end in the word "bot" unless the account is an approved bot account

You are encouraged to choose a new account name that meets our policy guidelines. Alternatively, if you have already made edits and you wish to keep your existing contributions under a new name, then you may request a change in username by:

  1. Adding {{unblock-un|your new username here}} on your user talk page. You should be able to do this even though you are blocked, as you can usually still edit your own talk page. If not, you may wish to contact the blocking administrator by clicking on "E-mail this user" on their talk page.
  2. At an administrator's discretion, you may be unblocked for 24 hours to file a request.
  3. Please note that you may only request a name that is not already in use, so please check here for a listing of already taken names. The account is created upon acceptance, thus do not try to create the new account before making the request for a name change. For more information, please see Wikipedia:Changing username.
If you feel that you were blocked in error, you may appeal this block by adding below this notice the text {{unblock|Your reason here}}, but you should read our guide to appealing blocks first.
