About Translating

[edit]

Dear Gaby,

In response to your email, I would love to help you translate some articles.

What you'll want to do first is go to the Wikipedia:Translation page. You can get there by simply typing "WP:TRANSL" in the search box and pressing Go. Once on that page, scroll down to "Current Work." Here, you find translations under the categories "Completed Translations," "Proofreaders Needed," "In Progress," and "Translation Requests." Since you are a native Spanish speaker, you could participate in translations in an of the last 3 categories. Simply find one that needs to be translated from Spanish (it will have the ((es)) icon). Then click the [show] icon on the right, which will bring up the translation info, and click "Join this translation."

At this point, the different editing becomes a bit complicated. There are several parameters to change as the translation progresses. There are instructions for progressing through the different translation steps, but this can get hairy.

I can help you with this. Just leave a message on my talk page if you find yourself needing help with editing the translation information.

I believe I speak for the majority of the editors at Wikipedia when I say we are glad to have you on board. Not only can you contribute greatly to our existing articles if you wish, but I see great potential in your bilingual abilities.

As I said, if you need help with anything, please ask on my talk page.

Thanks, and again, welcome to Wikipedia! - Robert Skyhawk (Talk|Contribs) 04:58, 1 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

More Help With Translating

[edit]

Gaby,

Your concerns are valid and understandable. I agree that the different charts located in the Spanish article can get hard.

This is where one of the great things about Wikipedia comes in. You don't have to copy the article over exactly! What I would suggest, if you would rather not include the tables, is just skip them while translating. Then, you (or I) can make a request for someone else with more experience to make these tables.

In order to give you more assistance, I am joining this translation. You can still do the translating, but this will allow me to make appropriate changes to the templates and such for you. Please don't feel like I'm trying to take your job and credit; this is not at all the case. I simply feel that I can help you better if I am part of the process.

If you should need any more help, please don't hesitate to contact me!
