Welcome!

[edit]

Hi Eylon Shachmon! I noticed your contributions and wanted to welcome you to the Wikipedia community. I hope you like it here and decide to stay.

I've noticed that you've expressed an interest in the Palestine/Israel conflict. Unfortunately, due to a history of conflict and disruptive editing it has been designated a contentious topic and is subject to some strict rules.

The rule that affects you most as new or IP editor is the prohibition on making any edit related to Palestine/Israel conflict unless you are logged into an account and that account is at least 30 days old and has made at least 500 edits.

This prohibition is broadly construed, so it includes edits such as adding the reaction of a public figure concerning the conflict to their article or noting the position of a company or organization as it relates to the conflict.

The exception to this rule is that you may request a specific change to an article on the talk page of that article or at this page. Please ensure that your requested edit complies with our neutral point of view and reliable sourcing policies, and if the edit is about a living person our policies on biographies of living people as well.

Any edits you make contrary to these rules are likely to be reverted, and repeated violations can lead to your being blocked from editing.

Introduction to contentious topics

[edit]

You have recently edited a page related to the Arab–Israeli conflict, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

  • adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
  • comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
  • follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
  • comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
  • refrain from gaming the system.

Additionally, you must be logged-in, have 500 edits and an account age of 30 days, and are not allowed to make more than 1 revert within 24 hours on a page within this topic.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

Thank you for clarifying it, I didn't understand the rule very clearly before.
(I do believe tho that "murder isn't a war crime" is a valid change request, I won't put it back but I will ask you if you can to consider changing it) Eylon Shachmon (talk) 10:37, 13 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You can place a single edit request on the talk page asking for it to be changed, but you cannot take part in any discussion that proceeds after your request. That will bring your concern to those who edit the article. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 13:07, 13 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
See WP:EDITXY for edit request guidance. Selfstudier (talk) 18:10, 13 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Seriously, read the comment you just replied to, they specifically said I can leave an edit request Eylon Shachmon (talk) 18:23, 13 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I did read it, couldn't decide if it was a speech or a lecture, anyway, it is already being discussed. Selfstudier (talk) 18:30, 13 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I am aware that general topic is being discussed, my suggestion was not starting the discussion anew, it was a small change to the current version, which in my opinion is uncontroversial. The fact that the current version is not agreed upon does not mean it should be frozen until a new version is agreed.
Sorry if I was being unclear, I am not entirely sure how it looks from you end, but when I said "the comment you just replied to", I meant in this discussion page, not my edit suggestion, you might have not intended for you message to be a reply to this comment chain.
That message was by an admin(I think) regarding a different protected page, he said I can leave edit suggestion if they are according to Wikipedia's guidelines, but not participate in the general discussion. Eylon Shachmon (talk) 18:41, 13 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I know, why my comment below.
The fact that the current version is not agreed upon does not mean it should be frozen until a new version is agreed It kinda does at that page, there is a "consensus required" established there. Selfstudier (talk) 18:45, 13 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
There may be consensus, you can't know if you delete the suggestion :/
I wasn't suggesting to change a major thing, just remove a single line because it was too strongly worded.
Can you please put it back and let's see if someone opposes it? Eylon Shachmon (talk) 19:03, 13 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Put it back yourself and do it as a proper edit request (no speech, no reasons, just a straight up edit request) (which I will then refuse to implement, and then see if someone else wants to discuss that).
Given that it is actually under discussion already, I'm curious to see what there is to gain by this effort. Selfstudier (talk) 21:49, 13 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Is there any reason not to put the reasoning? Eylon Shachmon (talk) 12:06, 14 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If it needs to be explained, then it is unlikely to be a simple edit request and will need consensus anyway (which is why it is already being discussed). I guess you should understand the idea behind this restriction is to encourage editors to gain the 500 edits elsewhere so that they can make such edits themselves? Selfstudier (talk) 12:19, 14 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The thing I reverted, that is. Selfstudier (talk) 18:30, 13 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
