Hi there; do you not think that this message, which does not relate to any incoming editor, is decidedly anti-social and determinedly non-wikipedic?--Anthony.bradbury 20:52, 17 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think that the message, which has no relation to anything, is an important part of Culverins identity. It's like an old hat, he's had it for ages and it defines his page. It's certainly non-wikipedic but decidedly anti-social, I'm not sure about. Dfrg.msc 1 . 2 . Editor Review 22:30, 17 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
No. I love the old thing. Now get of my couch before I get out my bat! Culverin? Talk 01:12, 18 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My friend, it is your page and you do as you please. I just felt that less experienced editors coming across it might be terrified by it. Please feel free to erase this whole conversation.--Anthony.bradbury 14:57, 18 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Anthony.bradbury, your concern and care of new users is to be applauded. Culverin, I'd like to remind you that that's my bat, your just swinging it. Champagne! Champagne for everyone! Dfrg.msc 1 . 2 . Editor Review 05:35, 19 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Also, I think that this little "incident" should be given it's own archive, if not kept permanently. Dfrg.msc 1 . 2 . Editor Review 05:35, 19 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Why did you reject my edits on Blasted which were explained and seem quite reasonable to me? Did you compare them with the original text? Did you think anything was lost?

Drugs are good

[edit]

Cannabis is nearly harmless when compared to alcohol and tobacco. If they are legal, cannabis should join them. Also, though some drugs (meth, coke, smack, etc.) do ruin lives, cannabis cannot claim sole responsibility for any life ruining. If someone fucked up their life, it's through their own error. Please don't do

It's not a debate to improve any aricle or iron out any real dispute. It's a debate for the sake of debate. This is an encyclopedia and I don't wish to get involved in that here. ReverendG 05:00, 20 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Esperanza!

[edit]

Welcome, Culverin, to Esperanza! As you might know, all the Esperanzians share one important goal: the success of this encyclopedia. Within that, we then attempt to strengthen the community bonds, and be the "approachable" side of the project. All of our ideals are held in the Charter, the governing document of the association.

Now that you are a member you should read the guide to what to do now or you may be interested in some of our programs. A quite important program is Stressbusters, which seeks to support editors who have encountered any stress from their Wikipedia events, and are seeking to leave the project. So far, Esperanza can be credited with the support and retention of several users. We will send you newsletters to keep you up to date. Also, we have a calendar of special events, member birthdays, and other holidays that you can add to and follow.

In addition to these projects, several more missions of Esperanza are in development, and are currently being created at Esperanza/Proposals.

If you have any other questions, concerns, comments, or general ideas, Esperanzian or otherwise, know that you can always contact our administrator general Natalya by email or talk page. Consider introducing yourself at the Esperanza talk page! Alternatively, you could communicate with fellow users via our IRC channel, #wikipedia-esperanza (which is also good for a fun chat or two :). If you're new to IRC, you may find help at an IRC tutorial. I thank you for joining Esperanza, and look forward to working with you in making Wikipedia a better place to work!

Again, welcome Culverin to Esperanza! If you have any questions, just ask me. Dfrg.msc 1 . 2 . 3 06:07, 30 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Reminder

[edit]

When using certain template tags on talk pages, don't forget to substitute with text by adding subst: to the template tag. For example, use {{subst:test}} instead of {{test}}. This reduces server load and prevents accidental blanking of the template. Glen 12:05, 4 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I believe I have enabled them for you. Can you please clear your cache (hit CTRL-R) and then when you see some vandalism use the RED revert link. This should open the vandals talk page and you should see an extra tab at the top next to history - see if that works :) Glen 12:21, 4 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

November Esperanza Newsletter

[edit]
Program Feature: Admin Coaching (needs coaches!)
Admin Coaching needs coaches!!! If you are an administrator, or even a generally experienced user, do consider signing up to be a coach.

Admin Coaching, now being coordinated by HighwayCello, is a program for people who want help learning some of the more subtle aspects of Wikipedia policy and culture. People are matched with experienced users who are willing to offer coaching. The program is designed for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.

What's New?
The Tutorial Drive is a new Esperanza program! In an effort to make complicated processes on Wikipedia easier for everyone, Esperanza working to create and compile a list of tutorials about processes here on Wikipedia. Consider writing one!
A discussion on how Esperanza relates to the encyclopedia has been started; please add your thoughts.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  • The list of proposed programs has been updated, with some proposals being archived.
  • There is now a new program: the Tutorial Drive! Consider writing a tutorial on something you are good at doing on Wikipedia.
  • The suggestion of adding a cohesive look to all the Esperanza pages is being considered; join the discussion if you are interested!
  • In order to make a useful interlanguage welcome template, those involved in translation projects will be asked what English Wikipedia policies are most important and confusing to editors coming from other language Wikipedias.
  • A discussion of Esperanza's role in Wikipedia is being held, with all thoughts of all Esperanzians wanted!
  • Shreshth91 informed everyone that he will be leaving the Esperanza council as life is rather busy; his spot will be filled by the runner up from the last election, HighwayCello.
Signed...
Although having the newsletter appear on everyone's userpage is desired, this may not be ideal for everyone. If, in the future, you wish to receive a link to the newsletter, rather than the newsletter itself, you may add yourself to Wikipedia:Esperanza/Newsletter/Opt Out List.

[edit]

I would like to apoligise to all who have fallen to my stupidity over the last few days. Firstly the whole navigation bar problem is fibe now, I am deleting it and I am going to get a higher user to design me another one, sorry to all users who were offended in those events. Also i apologise to Editor at Large. I tried to make a better tie to a well developed nation and i failed and then accidentally let Culverin loose on you. Sorry! Now that i have apologised i would like to make a point about using my complaints page when you have a complaint. So please use that talk page in the future for complaints.

WikiProject Dogs

[edit]

Thank you for having joined WikiProject Dogs. As you may have noted, it is a comparatively new group and the project page is still a little rough, but we're working on that. We just added a userbox for members of the project, and established the gallery of all the featured picture nominees. Our primary goal is to improve the articles, and I hope that you can continue to improve any and all that appeal to you. If you have any questions, please feel free to leave them on the project's talk page or contact myself or one of the other members directly. Thanks again for having joined! Page naming

[edit]

Firstly, it is considered bad practice to arbitrarily undo other editors work without even giving so much as an edit summary to explain why. Secondly, could you tell me why you think Eldar (Warhammer 40,000) notable characters is a good title for the page you have split off? Existing Wikipedia practice is very much to name these as lists. Cheers --Pak21 08:47, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please also see WP:NAME#Lowercase second and subsequent words. There is no reason for "Notable Characters" to be capitalised. --Pak21 08:54, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks again. I was wondering about that. Culverin? Talk 08:56, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Splitting the Notable Characters section out from the Eldar page seems a good idea to me... however, you've unfortunately created a problem in that you edited List of Eldar (Warhammer 40,000), which means we now can't move Eldar (Warhammer 40,000) Notable Characters on top of it. An administrator can sort this out, but it'll take a while. As for playing 40k, I haven't done so in a few years (moved away from my gaming group), but I do still try and keep up with "the Universe". Cheers --Pak21 08:57, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Why not? Why cant I just move the page? Culverin? Talk 09:03, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It is possible to move a page only to an empty page, or to a redirect without an edit history. As you edited List of Eldar (Warhammer 40,000) to redirect it to Eldar (Warhammer 40,000), it will need an admin to delete List of Eldar (Warhammer 40,000) and then move the page there. Yes, this is a bit subtle. I've listed the page at Wikipedia:Requested moves#Uncontroversial proposals, where an admin will look at it; if you could add a small note there saying you're happy with the move (assuming you are), that could speed things up a bit. Cheers --Pak21 09:07, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
A reasonable question :-) I'd note that most other lists on Wikipedia don't use "notable" in the title so we should stick with that. The thinking behind this is that Wikipedia contains information only on notable things, so it's implicit in every title already. Cheers --Pak21 09:15, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Banana Dog

Hi Culverin!

Granma here left the little message specifically to make you laugh, OK? Because I've learnt that life is easier to live if you laugh at least once a day.

Now I suppose must say thank you for the warning. And thank you for your remarkably civility as not to have me blocked over such a misdemeanour.

The question I must ask you is this- Did you laugh?

--Amandajm 09:52, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No.... hang onto your fuse there! I got it wrong.... it's Culverin? not Culverin! ....sorry...

Well, onto the next thing then!

--Amandajm 11:08, 16 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Culverin? Concerning bat-eared Hazza, I have put up a different pic on the ACD page which you might like better. I also took the liberty of dropping a message onto the page of Lazytea who owns that magnificent blue dog, asking if she has one that shows his face better, which woudld be good in the description box. --Amandajm 11:30, 16 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

He's a lovely sweet natured banana-eating, sneaker-chomping ACD. He's got that properly un-cute bite-yer-heel-if-yer-gimme-alf-a-chance, scare-the-shit-out-of-the-postman look about him. That's the way a Heeler ought to look... isn't it? Jaws like a Tasmania Devil. Beautiful tail. Now you've got to admit that's a beautiful tail.... he cost me $109 at the vet this week

But I have asked the girl with the champion dog to find us a suitable replacement....

Yeah! Of course... who do you think owns banana-eating boot-chomping Hazza here? I'm serious about the bananas. My neighbour has bananas growing by the fence. Harry pulls down the bunches and eats them green. Only the ones that hang over our side of the fence, mind you. My neighbour keeps telling me that bananas are $8.95 a kilo and I keep telling him that a) they never ripen properly this far south b) Hazza is entitled to anything that hangs over our fence. On the other hand, when he digs under the fence, removes the washing from the line, chews up two sneakers (two left sneakers) and bites through the electric cords of the tools in the workshop ...... then he's in big trouble. He's cost me a fortune, but at last he's beyond the puppy stage and not so destructive. He really is a very sweet-natured dog, but something about his lop-sided eyebrows gives him a permanent sneer which is a little off-putting to strangers. I prefer it that way. At least this one has never bitten anybody. The last dog we had was a whippet with attitude. The one before that was a Standard Bull Terrier with a liking for shin-bones. --Amandajm 06:13, 18 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the pic. I'd kinda figured he was yours. I love him, but he's a bit on the chubby side! How old is he?

--Amandajm 08:41, 18 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

He's got a great head, hasn't he!. Buy top grade, dry dog food, like Purina, and give him a measured amount, with only about 1/2 cup of wet food or meat a day. Put a few doggie pellets here and there around the garden so he can forage. If you buy expensive dog food, the dog only needs a much smaller amount to keep healthy and fit. So you actually end up saving money. Looks like he chews the skin off soccer balls as well. You didn't tell me how old he is.

--Amandajm 10:20, 18 November 2006 (UTC) I didn't realise he was hardly out of puppyhood! He eats your socks because they smell delicious. We had one in the 1950s that used to take all the underpants out of the washing basket and chew the crotches out of them. --Amandajm 22:37, 19 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Template

[edit]
This user is a member of WikiProject Dogs

I have designed this template. How do I make it a template?. Can you supply a help page? Or tell how?. Thank you.

Not entirely sure what you mean, it's already a template. If you want to simplify it, put it into one of your own subpages User:Culverin/WPDOG say, and then transclude that.

e.g.

Dogs userbox

[edit]

I like the layout of your userbox, and was actually considering using the photo myself when I first started making it. I just couldn't get the background color scheme right. Yours looks great to me, and I have no objections to seeing it substituted for the one we have now, which I acknowledge does have a rather less eye-catching color scheme. Good work! Hello! I'm just passing on a message, so here it goes. This is a quote from Bearly541 "please ask Culverin to put a b-day template on my userpage." Sorry, I would make this nicer and more polite and not so mch like spam, but I don'tt really know how to. So please accept my most sincere apologies. Cheers! —Randfan 21:51, 26 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Culverin. I just finished creating the "draft" of the page Wikipedia:WikiProject Strategy Games. Do you have the template yet? If you don't, you can begin, while I finish creating the page (along with anyone who wants to help). Thank you for voting to create this WikiProject. Yo Culver, how are you feeling? What are you doing? I'm doing random article and my Tau army is coming together, and I've put some pictures in for peer review. I've completed my Arbcom voting. A week to go until the result. See you around, Dfrg.msc 1 . 2 . Editor Review 01:42, 11 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You'll be at the meeting? Exellent. I currently have an army list of:
  • 4 gun drones
  • A stealth team
  • 1 markerlight drone
  • 4 Crisis XV8 battle suits
  • A devilfish APC
Not all of them are painted yet, some need to be extensively re-modeled and re-posed. Are you feeling any better? It's good to hear that you are keeping yourself occupied. My city in AOE 3 has reached level 17. Keep going with RCP, but you you should try out XFD and Wikipedia: Backlog. I'd also advise you to check your e-mail. Cheers, Dfrg.msc 1 . 2 . I don't remember which it is, I think death match. Strelets can get really powerful if you take advantage of the upgrades, which I do. Well, that's good. Your physical state is steadily improving, and your mental state is slowly decreasing. A fair trade, I'd say. Have you seen the latest Arbcom Progress? Warhammer 40,000 armies

[edit]

Hi. Vague apologies for the slow reply – I originally got into the Warhammer 40,000 universe via Space Hulk, so my first army was a Dark Angels one. I played various other armies via "proxies" (which happened to look a lot like badly painted Dark Angels), but never collected anything else. I also had some Epic Space Marines, which were also multipurposed into being almost any army imaginable. Cheers --Pak21 09:29, 15 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Adoption

Hi culverin rather than chocolates and nice clothes how about tellin' me how to set my prefences so my typing doesn't look 50 miles long. And maybe answer any user page questions so I don't get my hands psionically(if that's a word)smacked for screwing up someone's user page. I've been cramming in three days of of rules and regs and my brain's smoking like a chimney. I'd love to be adopted but I think It's going to take patience.Deedee19482 09:22, 16 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

By the way I forgot to say thanks.Deedee19482 09:24, 16 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Welcoming

Thank you. I would love to be adopted by you. Didn't mean to sound ungrateful.

I've read all the folling and have the basics but I think the knowledge retention is going to take a little work. I've read about a + tab to make adding to the discuss page easier but haven't been able to locate it. I have an idea for an article or series of them that are related. So I'm trying to learn real fast.So if you agree with adopting me could you do the template? Please? It would probably take me 30 minutes lol. Haven't read the Farser trilogy yet have it stored on disc.I'm currently finishing up reading the Sword of Truth series.Again thanks.I've got a strange sense of humor to,bear with me.Deedee19482 09:58, 16 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to the AMA!

[edit]
File:AMA logo.png

Hello Culverin, I see that you have decided to join the AMA. I'll be the first to say welcome! We're always in need of more advocates, especially since were backlogged most of the time. Just a few pointers for what we do. We communicate by putting a template on our talk page. The template is {{AMA alerts}}. The AMA also has it's own IRC channel, which reports new cases and alerts to us. It can also be used as a place to ask for advice on an issue. If you'd like to jump right into a case, you are free to check out AMA Requests for Assistance, which is our new request for advocacy system. The instructions for how the technical part works is on it's talk page. You can also use the AMA userboxes that appear under here. If you have anymore questions about the organization, just ping any advocates talk page, including our coordinator Steve Caruso, or deputy coordinator Wikiwoohoo. Again, welcome to the AMA! We are also having our December meeting right now, so feel free to check it out. -Royalguard11(Talk·Desk·Review Me!) 17:54, 16 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry, seem to be apologizing alot. I didn't know you were in Australia. I guess that makes a twelve hour difference. Thanks your message still made me smile. I seemed to be having a problem finding something useful to do. I noticed the novels project. Since I eat books for breakfast, lunch and dinner maybe that would be a good beginning. I'm going to look the list over and let you know if i spot something. I also noticed my city needed some help so I'll float around there to.
