BAG Changes

Hello. You may remember, some time ago, joining the BAG under the trial "open membership" system. Based on a lack of opposition to a reversion of this trial, I have now decided to be bold and perform it. The BAG has returned to a system under which users must go through a short period of discussion (like RfA, but less formal) before being added to the group by either a 'crat or an existing member. At the moment, I have said that discussions should last for 10 days and that community noticeboards should be spammed to encourage participation in each request - evidently this is to avoid the "cabal" impression.

As you have already been a member for some time, you're likely to be an excellent candidate to apply to the group and I encourage you to do so. Alternatively, if you totally disagree with my changes and fail to see any merit in them at all, I'm hoping to take part in discussions on WT:BAG. Though I must ask now if I may - please don't revert me without a decent amount of discussion first. Thanks, and if you have any questions about what I've done, please leave me a message, send an email or chat on IRC. Martinp23 17:29, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

Why does you bot tells me I am off line?

It should be up and running in 1 to 5 days time depending on how much time I get on the computer, hang in there! --Chris 10:56, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

I am... somewhere?

My bot says I am always somewhere but not if I'm online or offline. I might have the code wrong, what do you put in to make it work?

-Veonyx (talk) 22:34, 6 February 2008 (UTC)

So does mine. I haven't moved it from my Sandbox to my talk page and user page because of this problem. Leamarie411x2 00:29, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

The bot is not working and most likely won't be working for a while because I have school on now. --Chris 08:33, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

Hello

Hello, i am making a bot, and this bot will be heavily using the code that your bot uses(Remember, you made this code available, just to let you know), and i was asking for your assistance in this matter, thank you.

P.S. My bots name is YeltsinfanBot, and a link to its user page is on my userpage at the top. Thanks Again. Yeltsinfan (talk) 22:02, 7 February 2008 (UTC)]

Oh, Sorry, one more thing, will i need to buy my own server hardware for the bot or no? Thanks. Yeltsinfan (talk) 22:51, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

Ok:

  1. No you will not need to buy sever hardware, you can use the Toolserver
  2. Don't use my code, it goes trys to update the users status the wrong way, get the bot to monitor the RC feed and keep an offline database of which users it has set to online/offline this will avoid any extra sever requests that slow the bot down
  3. If your going to use the toolserver avoid perlwikipedia, I've had problems with memory leaks and the bot getting logged out because of the way the toolserver runs
  4. Do you have a BRFA? --Chris 09:37, 8 February 2008 (UTC)

Hi

Hi Chris G, I registered today to help edit WP pages. I saw your name on the Adopters page and wondered if you'd adopt me?

I am hoping to continue this great resource that I use at home and in my classroom as a middle-level computer teacher.

I found a list of pages that needed to be wikified and ended up on the apple candy red page. I did some editing but didn't know what I should do about the notice that the page needed wikifying. There was also a notice about the page being a stub. How much information needs to be added and who removes this statement?

Thanks in advance, --Busyreading (talk) 22:25, 9 February 2008 (UTC)

Of course I'll adopt you. As for the Wikifing and stub templates these can be removed by anyone once the article is Wikified or is no longer a Stub --Chris 09:21, 10 February 2008 (UTC)

Bot

What happened to your bot? —Some Person (talk) 19:48, 17 February 2008 (UTC)

Am I really somewhere?

Yes...the bot says I'm somewhere. Which is true, everyone is somewhere, or even anywhere, but at the same time...not true?

Joking aside, I understand it's supposed to tell others whether or not I am or am not online. So is there a glitch in the bot that is supposed to replace the other bot with the glitch? --~~MusicalConnoisseur~~ Got Classical? 02:38, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.

If the template is intended to be substituted, please feel free to remove the speedy deletion tag and please consider putting a note on the template's page indicating that it is substituted so as to avoid any future mistakes (<noinclude>{{transclusionless}}</noinclude>).

Thanks. --MZMcBride (talk) 19:30, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
