Image Tagging Image:Wille Nile.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Wille Nile.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, ie in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use {{gfdl}} to release it under the GFDL. If you can claim fair use use {{fairuse}}.) See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thanks so much. --Secretlondon 06:01, 4 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Image:Wille Nile.jpg has been listed for deletion

[edit]
An image or media file that you uploaded, Image:Wille Nile.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion. Please look there to see why this is (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you.

Hi there. Thanks for contacting me.

My addition to Jewell had nothing to do with the spelling of the name Jewell. The addition was actually a reference to the gemstone, and not about any names. Disambiguation pages exist in order to point people in the direction of the article they were originally looking for. It is entirely plausable that jewell could be a mis-spelling of jewel, especially to somebody who does not speak English as their native language. Because of this, both my and your addition to Jewell are valid.

Thanks for your time. If you would like to ask me anything else, either about the Jewell article or anything else on Wikipedia, please drop me another message on my talk page. Finally, it is generally accepted that Wikipedians should sign their name and date on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~), and not just their name. -- gtdp (T)/(C) 23:59, 19 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I see you have been heroically fixing a number of links and redirects related to Anglicanism.

  1. I agree with most of them, but I reverted 2 or 3 redirects; my explanation is at Talk:Episcopal#Why Episcopal needs disambiguation
  2. These fixes may turn out to be never-ending task. Please comment on my move proposal at Talk:Episcopal Church#Proposed move, as I think that would help a lot.

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Willienilecd.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Willienilecd.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Sorry for getting back to you so late; you were right about Jenny Lou Carson's origin. At the time, I was just adding infoboxes to articles that needed them and I didn't pay enough attention. My mistake. I've removed the origin. Acalamari 19:13, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Willie Nile Streets of NY.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Willie Nile Streets of NY.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 03:24, 12 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Rollback

[edit]

Hello BuffaloBob, I have 1 granted rollback rights to your account; the reason for this is that after a review of some of your contributions, I believe I can trust you to use rollback correctly by using it for its intended usage of reverting vandalism, and that you will not abuse it by reverting good-faith edits or to revert-war. For information on rollback, see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback and Wikipedia:Rollback feature. If you do not want rollback, just let me know, and I'll remove it. Good luck. This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of My Yiddishe Momme, and it appears to be very similar to another wikipedia page: My Yidishe Mama. It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. Hi. In relation to this message, when moving an article to a different title, it is preferred that you not copy and paste the article. (This is because the article history is then missing.) Instead, move it as described by Wikipedia:How to move a page. Thanks for your work here. :-) --Iamunknown 19:19, 27 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Lew Pollack

[edit]

Oops, I did, didn't I? I've been running through all the songwriter/composer/lyricist cats and must have added this by mistake. Some people are separated into composers and lyricists for the same song, some have 2 cats because they contributed lyrics to some songs and music to a bunch of other songs. A couple have three cats. Very confusing, especially when the article is silent on who contributed what. In the case of Lew there's only 4 articles for songs he has written, do I move/create a category "Songs written by Lew Pollack" or do I create a second cat for "Songs with music by Lew Pollack"? I don't know, but feel it would be overcategorization. In the meanwhile, please feel free to move the song out of the cat - it is patently wrong at the moment. Regards. --Richhoncho (talk) 15:33, 25 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for further note. I agree with you that there were "composers" and "lyricists" in the time of Pollack, in fact modern songwriting contracts still refer to both parts of a song separately. Curiously, Category:Songs by composer was deleted a couple of years ago, only to be recreated a month later. However, I can't see any value in having a category with one song in it, which is what you are proposing. Also, if you separate songs like this you could finish up categorizing songs by lyricist, composer, and "we just don't know," together with this, separating the two cats would diminish, say, Lew Pollack's contribution in total. Obviously, when known, the song will clarify, and there is no reason why a short piece of text can't be inserted into the cat for clarificaton. Just my thoughts. --Richhoncho (talk) 16:12, 25 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Merge/separation of different versions of the same song.

[edit]

As somebody who appears to be interested in song articles you might be interested to know there is a discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Songs/coverversions with the purpose of trying to establish a standard rule for merge/separation of different versions of the same song. You are invited to comment. Regards, --Richhoncho (talk) 02:21, 5 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Let Me Go, Lover

[edit]

WP:SONGCOVER says that cover versions should not be listed unless they have some form of notability. I have restored mention of the Hank Snow version, complete with a source, since Snow's rendition went to #1 on the country charts in 1954-55, but most of the others don't seem to be notable enough. If you can find sources proving that any other artist's rendition of that song charted, then that would be fine as long as the artist has an article. (Whitburn shows that Karen Kelly's version got to #75, but I can't find any info on her at all besides that, so I don't think she's notable or worth a mention.) Wikinic for Buffalo?

[edit]

Howdy. My name is User:Mitchazenia, a current resident on Tonawanda due to my parents living here. I have eight years experience with the Foundation's chapters and have been a big part of several Wikipedia picnics. I am looking for others in the Buffalo area to see if there is interest. Mitch32(The best ideas are common property.) 21:31, 29 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Mitchazenia. A Wiknic for Buffalo sounds like a great idea. Have you gotten much feedback? I am probably twice the age of the average wiki editor and I don't know many other editors, so I am probably not the best person to consult with about place, time etc. So, let me know when and where it might be or what choices you are considering and I will try to make it if I am available. BTW, there is a nice county park, Chestnut Ridge south of Buffalo and it has lots of shelters but Delaware Park in the city is centrally located. Sunday July 26th might be a good date. BuffaloBob (talk) 19:02, 3 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I was thinking Delaware Park myself, but no, not much luck. Mitch32(The best ideas are common property.) 13:43, 5 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Ellicott Creek Park (Niagara Falls Blvd. N of I-290) might be a good choice. (My computer club used to use it regularly.) And “Yes”, if available. Useddenim (talk) 17:14, 5 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, I would prefer to keep it in the city of Buffalo if possible. How does the Wiknic work? Is there a specific agenda? Could we also do a photo tour? Fortunate4now (talk) 12:01, 6 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I prefer Del. Park myself. The idea would be that we Wikipedians hang around, discuss Wikipedia in general. It's meant to be a gathering. See: Wikipedia:Wikinic. I can host and organize it, since I've done numerous NYC events myself. Mitch32(The best ideas are common property.) 18:18, 6 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I wanted to let you know that I reverted your addition to the List of African-American firsts. The source you included only indicated that Leona Douglas made a record, not that she was African American or the first African American to record a country song. I searched for a source, but I was only able to find Facebook pages and internet forums, not reliable sources. If you can provide a reliable source for the assertion that Leona Douglas was the first African-American woman to record a country song, please restore it to the list. Questions about accruals

[edit]

Hi BuffaloBob, I have a few questions about accruals. I was wondering about how companies use an "accrued expenses" liability account. Do you have any information about how that account would interact with a purchase order system? E.g. what kind of purchasing transaction, if any (e.g. generation of a purchase order or goods receipt), would hit that account? Thanks. AccountsPayable (talk) 13:03, 24 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello User:AccountsPayable. You should know that Wikipedia is not generally a place to ask questions (see WP:NOT), unless your questions are about Wikipedia or how to use it. It is an encyclopedia. FYI, accrued accounts payable liability accounts are generally used to record an expense which has been incurred but the invoice for such expense has not been received and recorded as a liability. This necessary to comply the Matching principle of accounting.BuffaloBob (talk) 13:36, 24 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Well, the question was asked with the intention of using the information to improve Wikipedia article(s). Although I guess it would be better to find a reliable source outside Wikipedia. Different companies do things differently, though, so a source that describes one type of procedure might not be giving information that's applicable to the majority of companies. For example, a lot of companies don't use a purchase order system at all. Thanks. AccountsPayable (talk) 14:31, 24 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Which Wikipedia article were you expecting to improve? You could pose these questions on that article's talk page, for example: Talk:Accounts payable. BuffaloBob (talk) 17:54, 24 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
That's true. Although then there can be diffusion of responsibility (or simply no one watching). So, first I looked in the revision history, but didn't see anyone who seemed to still be actively editing Wikipedia; and then I looked for transclusions of Template:User CPA, and you were the first user in the list who is still an active editor. Lucky you. I guess another possibility was that I could've posted to WikiProject Business, but business is a lot broader than accounting. Actually, I just didn't know enough about the topic to know what articles it might lead to me to edit if I learned more about it, and quite possibly I was going to end up editing the accrual article, which probably doesn't have a lot of watchers. But yeah, you're right, Talk:Accounts payable could be a good starting place. Thanks. AccountsPayable (talk) 19:25, 24 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Philippines

[edit]

Wow, you've been a lot of places. Are you thinking about visiting the Philippines sometime? It's a beautiful country with an interesting culture, and the people are generally hospitable, friendly, and outgoing. I've been to Manila (briefly), Cagayan de Oro, and Jasaan. There are some nice resorts in Mindanao. The one I went to was Duka Bay, which has a beautiful view, but kind of a sucky restaurant (although if I recall correctly, the breakfast was okay, and they'll deliver to your room for a small extra charge, which is nice). There's a town you can get to by tricycle that has a few convenience stores and usually some food grilled outdoors that you can buy. Some of the reviews said the mosquitoes were terrible, but I didn't find them to be so bad. They might be localized to particular spots. The service was pretty good in person, although by email they weren't always responsive. AccountsPayable (talk) 13:04, 24 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I am going to Malaysia and Singapore soon. BuffaloBob (talk) 22:49, 25 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Arafat Nagi

[edit]

The article Arafat Nagi has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

First, a presumption of innocence exists; the subject has been charged but not convicted. Second, WP:BLP1E applies. The subject is not notable for any reason other than the charges brought against him. We should not create an article for everyone the authorities arrest on suspicion of terrorism (or any other charge).

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Sorry for the delay in getting back to you on this. My argument for removing the "By" parameter is that the song is (I think) not particularly associated with Ben Nernie in the sense that, say, My Way is with Frank Sinatra, so it seems a bit misleading to have him shown so prominently in the Infobox. However, I don't feel particularly strongly about it, so feel free to revert if you think that's best. Regards, AndrewWTaylor (talk) 12:05, 21 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Jacqueline Logan Date of Birth

[edit]

Hello BuffaloBob. Per yours at mine, and as I explained in the remarks of my original edit, I don't take issue with 1901 or 1904; rather, I edited the paragraph so that the year of 1901 claimed in the second sentence of the article agrees with the claim of 1901 stated immediately previous in the very first sentence of the article - a year which is likewise recorded in the infobox. Had the edited 1904 been part of an explanation of countervailing claims, I would've left it as is - but it wasn't - it was a declaration. Thanks, though. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dave Peters (talkcontribs) 03:08, 6 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Indexes

[edit]

We have no connection with Google, etc. They update their indexes on their own time. Honestly, I don't know how the NOFOLLOW tags work; the Monroe article is full of unsourced statements which I've removed, but in general it looks good. DS (talk) 18:53, 30 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

{{dagger}} usage question

[edit]

Hello, I note you used the † character to, what I assume, signify a deceased member in this article. Is this a known Wikipedia style? Normally I've only seen †'s used for footnoting. Thank you.░▒▓ №∶72.234.220.38 (talk) 02:34, 5 May 2020 (UTC) ▓▒░[reply]

Hello 72.234.220.38, I first noticed the use of the † here: The Kingston Trio Past members in the Userbox and thought that it was an interesting way do show a subject was deceased, so I researched it and experimented with it. Why is your identity so discreet? I would be pleased to discuss this with you further, but I do not know what your intent is.
Hello BuffaloBob. Discreet? I have a total lack of discretion when editing here. 😉 If you mean why am I just a lowly editor after more than a decade of editing? Personal preference I suppose. My intent is just to discover if this is something new. And if it has been "blessed". I also am wondering if it may add confusion being that the {{dagger}} has been used for ages as a default footnote character? I won't even think of opening a probable kettle-of-fish by mentioning those who may take it as a christian-cross image and take some sort of offense. I looked at a handful of other bands with deceased members and didn't see it used… but I'm assuming we have different musical tastes. I sorta like the idea, but am a bit torn about using it as others may disagree. Regards.░▒▓ №∶72.234.220.38 (talk) 04:32, 5 May 2020 (UTC) ▓▒░[reply]
I was posting a link from Larry Monroe Forever Bridge to Laurie Freelove when I was shocked to discover that she had died. Having recently seen that dagger charachter on the Kingston Trio page, I thought it would be a nice gesture to add it next to her name. She is linked from the Larry Monroe mosaic because she was an Austin musician and has a tile on the memorial for Larry Monroe. If you feel that the dagger is inappropriate I have no objection to your removing it. BuffaloBob (talk) 18:20, 5 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hello BuffaloBob. Understand. I'd not remove it as it seems like a clever idea. I'd even consider using the †, or some other character, myself for this very same deceased designation. What I wonder, as I'm no expert level Wiki editor, is if there is some place where this idea could be discussed and then codified as a legit Wiki Style. I was thinking of asking the originator of the idea (at least on the Kingston Trio page) about it – Edit shown here. But, there's a problem. This old-school Wiki editor seems to have "lost it" about a year ago and was blocked indefinitely. It's an interesting, but sad, read as to how it occurred. So, if this editor originated the idea, it may not be too well received. 🙄 If you happen to know the Wiki procedure to suggest style format additions, I'd be happy to support this. As long as the character choice is not too macabre, eg! Regards.░▒▓ №∶72.234.220.38 (talk) 23:19, 5 May 2020 (UTC) ▓▒░[reply]

Hello again 72.234.220.38, after your comments here, I took it upon myself to put those daggers on a few musicians infoboxes, that was a BIG mistake. Unknown to me, at that time, there is not to be anything other than a name in an infobox, see the comments in the section below titled "deceased members". so, that puts a end to what we both thought was a good idea. BuffaloBob (talk) 21:08, 7 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hello BuffaloBob. C'est la vie. I had this feeling that somewhere deep in recesses of Wikipedia's MOS this was probably a no-go. I now defiantly see the other side to this, as @SummerPhDv2.0: alludes to, everyone dies - which would mean that eventually every band member, and every person in every infobox would have that † or some character next to their names. Think SummerPhDv2.0's "members of the first century Roman senate" example. It would look silly. Regards.░▒▓ №∶72.234.220.38 (talk) 23:19, 5 May 2020 (UTC) ▓▒░[reply]

Deceased members

[edit]

Yes, people die -- members of bands, cast members of TV shows, U.S. presidents, members of the first century Roman senate, signers of the Magna Carta.

Per the MOS and the descriptions of the individual infoboxes, we do not include who is dead (not "the late Julius Caesar" or Abraham Lindoln†) in infoboxes specifically and -- in general -- in individual articles unless the death is somehow relevant to the subject. So, an article about a battle might mention the deaths of notable individuals killed in that battle. An article about a novel, for example, likely would have no reason to mention the novelist is now dead (not "The Old Man and the Sea is a novel by Earnest Hemmingway (deceased).."). - SummerPhDv2.0 21:00, 7 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Dear SummerPhDv2.0, thank you for pointing out the error of my ways. I was merely adding what I thought was useful knowledge to the wiki user. Therefore I will abide by the MOS, although I don't agree with it. BuffaloBob (talk) 21:25, 7 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Willie Nile, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Dion (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

May I ask why you're submitting drafts through Articles for Creation instead of creating articles directly? You're clearly an experienced editor, and all of your drafts have been accepted - going through AfC seems like it would be an unnecessary hassle... :) Spicy (talk) 04:41, 14 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I suppose I was thinking this was a fast way to get it assessed. Do you have a better recommendation? BuffaloBob (talk) 19:14, 14 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
