To do:

- Intro section is inadequate

- Is a section for QD fabrication relevant to the surface chemistry of QDs? Seems more appropriate for addition to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quantum_dot. Anything that covers, we should not.

- Need to make the QD functional group image relevant to the article. What is the purpose of the functional groups illustrated? How do you functionalize a QD?

- The applications section for encapsulation should be expanded. A lot.

- Monolayer formation

- As per the Requirements PDF, almost all sections are insufficiently technical. The current target audience appears to be first-year college students.

Moved the old introduction here.

Quantum dots (QDs) are nano-semiconductors. Originally discovered in the 1970s, there are now many possible uses [further explanation needed] [1] They are well known for their florescent properties which make them useful in many applications. QDs can be made of many different materials. This article will focus on cadmium selenium QDs.

Please use a chemical drawing program like BKchem or ChemDraw for figures. Rather than drawing just the functional groups, draw the actual molecules used for surface modification. Schematics of the modified QDs would be extremely hellpful. Hagen76 (talk) 19:56, 30 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Notes from Dr. Hagen

[edit]
  • Work on flow
  • explain the problem that is trying to be solved more - why modify surfaces? - keep Cd toxic
  • use BK CHEM for molecular structure pictures - save as SVG
  • add more to 1st and 3rd section
  • 2nd section could just link to other wiki articles, don't need here - thermodynamics of micellization, micelle - the equations are already somewhere else - omit CMC, kraft, packing parameter
  • the very last section has a lot of abbreviations that are not explained (PMA, DCC) - what are they? - maybe add some pics (alkylamine structure)
  • more hydrogel
  • overall more drawings and descriptions
  • add photos
  • table of compound properties — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aweckel (talkcontribs) 17:08, 31 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

I think we need to spread out the pictures a little, or describe them more in their captions.

Also, the last figure is wider than the page. Is there a way to fix that? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aweckel (talkcontribs) 19:15, 5 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
