Hathor

Hello, Am4293. I'm A. Parrot, a member of WikiProject Ancient Egypt, which is dedicated to improving Wikipedia's articles on ancient Egypt. Thank you for signing up to improve the article on Hathor.

Unfortunately, the universe seems to be pranking us. I have been working on a thorough rewrite of the Hathor article for a few years, one that is very extensively sourced and covers all aspects of the topic. Because I'm not good at writing piecemeal the way Wikipedia encourages, I kept the rewritten article offline, in a text file, until all the gaps in it were filled. I was close to finishing and hoped to upload it this week — until last Wednesday, when a computer crash left me unable to access the file. I will be able to upload the rewritten version eventually, but if you're working on Hathor as well, we'd risk colliding with each other or overwriting each other's work. There are many, many other articles in this topic area that need improvement, so it would feel wasteful if that happened.

I know there's a limited list of topics for your course, but I was wondering if you could select another article from the list or ask your instructor to add another article that's similar to Hathor. Nearly all the articles on Egyptian deities have major content gaps, and some of them, like Ra, Sekhmet, and Nut, overlap with the topic of Hathor so that some of the sources you may have collected would be usable for improving those articles. I can also suggest useful sources for just about any ancient Egyptian religion-related topic, so you wouldn't have to start from scratch if you chose another of them. A. Hello, A. Parrot, thank you for contacting me and letting me know this.

Unfortunately, we only have a few more weeks to complete this project, and have to also document our process on researching articles to demonstrate we can accurately research and cite academic, peer-reviewed sources, so I may not be able to switch to another article. That being said, I can inform my professor of this after providing my current list of references, and then, if I am not able to switch articles, I would be more than willing to discuss my sources with you as well, and choose a particular section of the article to rewrite, rather than risk overwriting your own edits. Please let me know if this will be an acceptable alternative if I'm unable to switch! Am4293 (talk) 02:47, 17 April 2018 (UTC)
