Information icon Hello, I'm 31.41.45.190. I noticed that you recently removed all content from Deaf gain. Please do not do this. Blank pages are harmful to Wikipedia because they have a tendency to confuse readers. As a rule, if you discover a duplicate article, please redirect it to an appropriate existing page. If a page has been vandalised, please revert it to the last legitimate version. If you feel that the content of a page is inappropriate, please edit the page and replace it with appropriate content. If you believe there is no hope for the page, please see the deletion policy for how to proceed. If this was a mistake, don't worry; the removed content has been restored. If you wish to experiment, please use your sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. 31.41.45.190 (talk) 22:09, 8 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Moving pages

[edit]

I noticed you created a bit of a mess moving pages around the other day. Short version, if you're confused about the best way to do something ask at the WP:TEAHOUSE. Longer version below.

So I don't want to get too technical but by default moving a page leaves behind a redirect pointing to place you just moved it (though this can be suppressed under certain conditions) which means that repeated moves ends up leaving a mess of redirects that have to then be cleaned up. In particular there is rarely a good reason to move a page that is already a redirect itself.

If you think a redirect needs to be deleted you can't go too far wrong so long as you follow the process outlined at WP:RFD, and the page will usually be deleted in a week so long as everyone agrees with you. Under certain circumstances you can also tag a page directly for speedy deletion (speedy is not immediate, usually faster then a week but may still take hours to days). It's not something I would jump right into and there is a bit of a learning curve, but the basics are outlined at WP:CSD, especially WP:R2, WP:R3, WP:G8, and WP:G6. The short version is that you first check that the criteria are met, then you place a template like {{db-redirnone}} or {{db-r2}} on the top of the page, and eventually an admin will review, and if they also agree the criteria are met the redirect will be deleted.

If you want to move a page to a spot that is occupied by a redirect you can generally do so yourself if the page has only one revision and it redirects to the current title. If you can't move the page you can request assistance at WP:RM/TR to get the page moved or request the existing redirect be deleted using {{db-move}}. If you're not sure about a new title, or think it might be controversial you can use the process outlined at WP:RM#CM.

So I know all this can be rather confusing to a newbie if you have time and your comfortable with a bit of reading you can probably figure it out on your own, but if not there are many dedicated volunteers who help out at the teahouse and will be more than happy to point you in the right direction. Blanking Redirects

[edit]

stop Please stop blanking redirects. If you want to delete a redirect then please discuss at WP:RFD, but do not blank the page. Polyamorph (talk) 18:37, 9 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
