Brandi Carlile

[edit]

I don't understand why the fansite listing was removed from the Brandi Carlile page. Just about every artist on Wikipedia has a fansite listed. I wouldn't have found the fansite and wealth of info if it hadn't been here.Ubtrbelizeit68

Fansites are unreliable sources. No artist should have fansites listed, and I make sure I remove them when I see them. Read Wikipedia: External links and Wikipedia: Reliable sources for more information please. Acalamari 16:29, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My RfA

[edit]

Thank you for participating in my RFA, which passed with 53-1-0. I will put myself into the various tasks of a administrator immediately, and if I make any mistakes, feel free to shout at me or smack me in my head. Aquarius • talk 17:41, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome! :) I was glad to support you. Acalamari 18:46, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

How?

[edit]

Just out of curiosity — and the fact that I've been wondering this for a while — do you pronounce your user name Aca - lamari, A - calamari, or what? ~ Magnus animuM ≈ √∞ 19:34, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

An interesting question: I've never been asked that before. :) To be honest, I've always considered the pronunciation to be "Aca-lamari" instead of "A-calamari". I liked the way "Aca-lamari" sounded, which was one of the reasons why I chose it. Thanks for asking. :) Acalamari 20:00, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks - though I have no idea why you've never been asked that before :p; I guess it's because I have an insane obsession with calamari. ~ Magnus animuM ≈ √∞ 20:02, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I've had questions about the name, just not about how it's pronounced. :) That's why I included the Origin of Acalamari section on my user page. Acalamari 20:06, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

RfA thanks

Hi Acalamari, thanks for your very kind support in my RfA, which passed unopposed. Please let me know if I can be of any assistance. --Seattle Skier (talk) 20:13, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You are very welcome! :) As I said, you did a great self-nomination, and your answers were great too. I was more than happy to support. Acalamari 20:16, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Undiscussed removal

Was this intentional? -- Y not? 23:27, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

How did that happen? I clicked on the user's redlinked talk page button to post a warning to them. I assure you it wasn't intentional to blank your message, and to be honest, I didn't even know you had posted one. I don't know why I didn't receive an edit conflict message. SpuriousQ

Q accepted! Got the RfA skeleton in my sandbox, I haven't written anything yet though. Feel free to add your bit to it. User:Riana/Sandbox. :) Cheers, – Riana 06:19, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Excellent! First I'll need to update my co-nomination a bit first: SpuriousQ has been busy enough that it's out of date already (which is a good thing I guess). Acalamari 16:25, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You already have one written? You're eons ahead of me, mate! Since you already have one prepared(ish), you can go ahead and nominate - I'll co-nom. Cheers, – Riana 16:29, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Are you sure? You're the one who wanted to nominate SpuriousQ in the first place after all: I was just asking you if I could co-nominate. Acalamari 16:32, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I don't mind at all, hon :) Since you've already done the hard work, you should have first say, methinks. I'm in the process of writing my bit now. – Riana 16:35, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"Princess Bride moment"? Acalamari 16:39, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, sorry! "As you wish" is one of the repeated lines in The Princess Bride (film). Never mind me :) – Riana 16:42, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No need to apologize. :) I haven't seen that film, but "As you wish", is also a line said by characters in various computer games. Acalamari 16:45, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
If you haven't seen it, I really recommend it! The RfA's up - my nomination statement is somewhat improved :) Cheers, – Riana 17:28, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'll keep that in mind then. :) Anyway, I'm glad you've improved your co-nomination, though I must say, it would have been interesting had you left the old one in! Acalamari 17:31, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My dearest A

[edit]

My beloved A, your beautiful words made me blush - we're getting to know each other, and are steadily getting friends so you don't know one thing about me yet... I get very uncomfortable when on the receiving end of kindness! :) All I can think about is, thank you, more than I can express. Sometimes, in moments of turmoil and struggles, my faith in our project falters; but seeing wonderful people like you around, striving to make this a truly excellent encyclopedia, while not losing the human side of it from your sight, is the best way to recover my strength. You are a wonderful person, my dear A - thanks for your kindness and, above all, your friendship! :) Love you, Phaedriel - 03:38, 18 May 2007 (UTC) PS. Look at your userpage! ;)[reply]

You are very welcome. :) There's no need to be uncomfortable when receiving kindness: normally, if someone is receiving kindness, it means they are being kind to others. :) Thank you for the user page upgrade. It makes a very nice change for another editor to make constructive edits to my user page instead of having someone making highly amusing-yet disruptive edits like this: [1] :) Again, you're welcome, and thank you. Hello, Acalamari! I saw you left a comment at Ryan's talk page, so I thought I'd tell you that Ryan has agreed to coach me! Well, I guess I wanted to say hi, so, Cremepuff222 says, "Hi!". See ya around! (Oh, I'll be looking forward to your next RfA.) *Cremepuff222* 01:14, 20 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Cremepuff222! That's excellent that you're getting admininistrator coaching from Ryan Postlethwaite: he'll be a good teacher. I checked your edit count and again I must say that I am pleased you listened to your editor review: your Wikipedia edits are approaching 1000, and your mainspace are already above 1200. Plus, you're involved with XfD's, and getting more involved in the RfA's. You're a good listener...and that's a very good sign.
As for my next RfA...that won't be for a while. I am not going to rush to my next nomination: instead, I plan to wait and gain more experience. I have learned much since March 28 (the closing date of my first RfA), but I feel I haven't learned enough just yet. Sure, I am a much calmer now, and less thin-skinned (as well as less prone to over-reaction), but there are still a couple of other issues which I am still working on. :)
Anyway, thanks for your message. I am glad to see you are working hard. :) Acalamari 02:06, 20 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use?

[edit]

You removed a picture due to fair use. I was confused because I thought that, that picture was covered under fair use.

What picture are you talking about? If it's a picture I removed in the last few days, I would have removed it because it was a picture of an audio recording being used to depict a person, which is not what the fair use said it could cover. The fair use said it could depict the audio recording, not the person. Acalamari 22:56, 23 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Cheers so much for the award Acalamari - I'm honoured that I've joined the "recruit an IP" club! It's certainly important to get more users on board. Oh yeah - I blocked that sock/troll - it's certainly who you thought it was! Ryan Postlethwaite 02:05, 25 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, you're welcome! At the moment, you and I are the only editors I know who have convinced an IP to join, but I am sure there are more users out there who have done what you did the other day. Anyway Ryan, thanks for blocking that troll. I think I'd better keep an eye for Acalamari/Phaedriel-WikiCrush trolling/vandalism now. Acalamari 02:22, 25 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hello I just wanted to know how do a join this recruit an IP club? It sounds neat and sorry about the trolling you have recive, I'll trying to find out who is behind all these sockpuppets.Arnon Chaffin Got a message? 17:27, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Arnon Chaffin: the recruit an IP club is just an imaginary club that Ryan Postlethwaite and I made up since we are both users who have managed to convince an IP address to register an account. :) All you have to do is convince an IP to register, and bingo! You're a member of the club! :)
As for the sockpuppeteer, I believe that the puppetmaster is a user called "Owner of boats". After my RfA from two months ago ended unsuccessfully, a group of users said about how sorry they were for my nomination not being a success. As I was responding to them all, I edit conflicted on my own talk page with a user called "Owner of boats". They were the first to talk about my love for certain female admininistrators (at that stage, Natalie Erin). I am certain Owner of boats is the puppetmaster, as they started this. In fact, they've just started their trolling again a few days ago. Acalamari 17:35, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I see that the user User:Owner of boats has something to do with User:Wind in the sails and User:Past my boat on the river it seems the User names have to do with boats, sails, and river ect.Well 1 question have you had any trolling before all this happen? I heard a guy was trying to cheer you up on your fail RfA and may I have the User's Name?Arnon Chaffin Got a message? 18:04, 29 May 2007 (UTC)P.S If you don't want me to look into who is doing to you please let me know before I go further into this,Thank you[reply]
I don't want to discuss the troll for much longer, as it will only provoke him; however, I will answer your questions. No, I have not had any trolling before all this happened: all I had was vandalism. As for the RfA, I don't understand your question: the only people who came to my talk page after it ended was the bureaucrat and administrators, as seen here. As for looking into this, the only way we'd find out is to do a checkuser on all the names, but since this is a case of obvious sockpuppetry, I don't believe a checkuser would be allowed. Owner of boats began the trolling, and it's continued since then. If you want, you could go through the history of mine and Natalie Erin's user/talk pages and list all the users who have done the "WikiLove" trolling, but that could take an hour or two or more to do. Anyway, the user will just get reverted-and-blocked on site. It's annoying what this person does, but there are plenty of people watching my pages, so the troll's accounts won't last very long. I appreciate your input, but in the interests of WP:DENY, I think it's best that we try not to talk about the troll. Acalamari 18:18, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

so you've noticed too?

[edit]

Hi Acalamari, I see that you're aware of this message I removed from Phaedriel's talk page. I really don't see what this person's issue is with you and other Wikipedians (Natalie, Sharon, probably me next at this rate). --Kyoko 23:36, 26 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I did notice, :) because the other day, this edit happened. I welcome people to read my talk page content, but it seems this person takes it to the extreme by reading all my interactions with female users (administrators, actually, though you may become the exception). I'm not offended by it (no reason to be offended by vandalism or trolling anymore), it's just that I thought this user decided to drop it a few weeks ago. Obviously they moved on with Persian Poet Gal, Alison, and Natalie Erin, and have gone to Phaedriel. Acalamari 23:43, 26 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
This has been going on for months now, if it's the same person I'm thinking of. If you've seen Phaedriel's talk page, you know that I filled her in on the backstory. I'd find it at least a nuisance to have this going on. Ah, the ways some people will spend their time... --Kyoko 01:11, 27 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dear A

[edit]

Dear A, please don't worry about your "fan club"; no matter whether he wants to stir up trouble between us, or if he's simply trying to bother you, our good friendship will not be affected at all by his silliness. I'm dropping a little something at your mailbox now, just to make sure it doesn't reach "unwanted" ears. Take good care! Love, Phaedriel - 14:51, 30 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's okay Phaedriel, I'm not worrying about him. :) He will just get blocked by the administrators who watch my user and talk pages. In the end, he will just get fed up and do something else. He will just be blocked on sight (well, unless it's me who notices him trolling again; I can't block him). As for dropping something by my mailbox, I assume you mean E-mail but I may be wrong; I'll wait and see what you send. :) Acalamari 16:50, 30 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Secret Agent unreferenced?

[edit]

You put an Unreferenced tag on Secret Agent on May 30th. However, I'm not quite sure what you expect to be done about that. Secret Agent is an old game, and if it's referenced anywhere, it probably is just a mention of it and who published it. Most of the information probably technically comes from "original research", but I don't really see how it could feasibly be any other way in its case. Kevin 01:52, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

See the message on my talk page here. The game was suggested to me to tag. However, sources must be found, as original research is against policy. Acalamari 01:55, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sweetie, do you want me to semi-protect your userpage to prevent your fan club from bothering you? I see he's been hitting you heavily lately... and no, I haven't forgotten about my promise, email on the way! :) Love, Phaedriel - 17:58, 2 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, if you want to. :) I wasn't going to ask for any protection because I didn't think it would be necessary (after all, you administrators get far more vandalism and trolling than I do), but since this is one person coming back to try to annoy me, I suppose semi-protecting my user page would be justified (they are trying hard to annoy me, but I am not annoyed), so feel free to semi-protect it. :) As for the E-mail, I haven't checked mine today (been busy in real life, heh, heh), but I'll check it later. An article that could user your attention is being nominated for deletion

[edit]

I don't really have the time, and should certainly be doing something more responsible right now than editing Wikipedia, but could you see if you think this article is worth keeping? It's one of a minor pop star from Malaysia. Quincy Tan Thanks. KP Botany 20:51, 3 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm...consensus is to delete at the moment, as it seems this person isn't notable; I did some reseach and couldn't find much (if anything) about him. You've done a good job in cleaning up the article, but it's likely it will get deleted anyway. Acalamari 02:54, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I did some searches in Chinese, and there's quite a bit about him; with the help of an editor who appears literate in Chinese, unlike me, some references have been added. I'm still not sure if it should be kept or not, as the People's Daily tends towards hyperbole in everything, but there appear to be enough Chinese-language sources to justify an article for now. I won't get blown over either way, as many of these Asian pop stars fade faster than they rise. KP Botany 21:17, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Actuallly...

[edit]

It's a little worse than that, I'm afraid, dear - check here: Wikipedia:Village_pump_(technical)#User_contributions_not_appearing. Let's hope they solve it soon! It's nearly impossible to deal with vandals if we cannot check their contribs... Love, Phaedriel - 01:45, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I know you're pretty actively watching that page... Someone put a "protect" notice on it but the page is not protected... Should that be removed? I'm not that familiar with the policies, just how the Wiki works. Thanks! Rockerbaby 06:15, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, it should, and has, been removed. Adding the template to a page does not protect it. Only administrators can semi-protect or protect pages. Read Wikipedia: Protection policy for more information. Acalamari 16:06, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! Now if we could only keep the "kiddies" from messing with those articles. I know about how protection works, as my personal website is driven by the MediaWiki software. I guess I'm spoiled to the administrative tools, which I don't have here. Im not as familiar with policy as i should be, so thank's for the link. YechielMan's RFA

[edit]

Thank you for participating in either of my unsuccessful requests for adminship. Although the experience was frustrating, it showed me some mistakes I was making, and I hope to learn from those mistakes.

Please take a few minutes to read User:YechielMan/Other stuff/RFA review and advise me how to proceed. Best regards. YechielMan 21:29, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The best advice I can give you is this: remain positive, and treat your RfA as a large-scale editor review (I did these with mine). You are a person able to learn from your mistakes, and that's an excellent sign. Everyone has made mistakes both here on Wikipedia and in real life, YechielMan (I certainly have). My other suggestion is that you avoid another self-nomination; it may not be wise to self-nominate again. However, these are only my suggestions so you are free to ignore them. :) Good luck. Hi, how do you know that I'm seeking for answer of who is Kate McAuliffe? Anyway, thanks for answering... --Edmundkh 16:40, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Natalie Erin's user and talk page are in my watchlist, so I saw your message. Acalamari 16:45, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oh yeah!

[edit]

Oh yeah, they were pretty big, sweetie! :) I had set Miszabot to archive every 7 days, but I've just had to put it to 5 instead. Quite a flurry of messages these last days! :) Thanks God, things are a little more calm today... Btw, I haven't forgotten about my promise, but tho I have managed to catch up with (nearly) every message at my talk page, now I'm kinda swamped with emails... keep an eye on your mail! ;) Love, Phaedriel - 22:11, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's okay if you're busy. :) You're very popular, so there's no need to worry. :) Acalamari 22:14, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

I thank you for your very kind comment. I have e-mailed you on another matter.--Anthony.bradbury 00:29, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Barnstar

[edit]

Ooooo, thank you very much, Acalamari! But you know, if you hadn't helped me at my editor review, I might not have made it this far. ;) Thanks again, and see ya around! *Cremepuff222* "As cool as grapes..." 18:50, 7 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It wasn't just me who helped you in that editor review; other users did too. :) I'm glad you've improved significantly since then. You are welcome for the barnstar. Acalamari 18:53, 7 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Amanda Michalka

[edit]

The article is on my watchlist and I saw this edit:

http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Amanda_Michalka&curid=1951659&diff=136717124&oldid=136716841

I have a magazine article where she is showing off her room and she says "That's me and my BF, Joe Jonas..." and you can see a picture of the two of them kissing... Does this count as a source? Rockerbaby 00:25, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It depends how reliable the magazine is, and if you can find a source on the web. Information like that needs a reliable source, and information about her and Joe Jonas is continually added but is never sourced. If you can find a reliable source, then it can be added. Currently, the information is just original research whenever it's added. Acalamari 01:46, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It's a teen magazine, PopStar! if I remember right. Sad part is I have the printed copy, and no scanner to put it anywhere. If I can find the image online, I'll put a link on the talk page. However, some in the Wikipedia community may not accept that type of source as valid. I assume it to be reliable since the article is about AJ's room and we have seen several photos inside the Michalka home on reliable sources (like the On the Ride concert DVD). Thanks again for your help, and your time in keeping the Aly & AJ-related articles clean! Rockerbaby 02:01, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome for the help. However, I don't believe an image is a reliable source; you'll need to find text to source it. Acalamari 02:04, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Speak of her, I think I've found a suitable image of her on Flickr. --SWEETCARMEN 23:26, 9 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Make sure it's free, and that you give it the correct license. We can't have unfree images, but I think you know that already. :) Acalamari 23:30, 9 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Just dropping by to say "thank you" for supporting me in my recent my RfA. I passed the vote, and am now an admin. It will take me some getting used to with the new tools, but I thank you again for the trust. Have a good one, and, as always, happy editing! Jmlk17 05:10, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My RFA

[edit]
Hello, Acalamari/Archive F, and thank you so much for your support in my recent RFA, which passed 59/0/0! I promise I won't erupt all over this nice Wikipedia, and I will try very hard to live up to your expectations. Please let me know if I can help you in any way, but first take your cookie! Thanks again! KrakatoaKatie 19:51, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You are very welcome! :) I gave you strong support for two reasons: one; I was actually thinking of nominating you myself and two; you're an excellent user, so "strong support" seemed fitting. Congratulations on your unanimous support. :) Acalamari 20:15, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

More doctors and musicians

[edit]

Thanks for the barnstar. I'm still a bit uncertain about the article--it's hard to judge the Asian press, as things can be published in a magazine there and disappear before the ink is dry. However, I think that in the case of AfD, editors should be required to attempt to clean up the article before nominating it--this would greatly improve Wikipedia, and reduce the workload in AfD. The article does look fine as it now stands, and certainly the kid did nothing to deserve such a crappy article. Good job awarding lots of barnstars to various editors--people need to know that their work is not just appreciated, but noticed by other editors.

I posted one of the sillier nominations to the list serve as an example of what irritates me about AfD, and one of the members pointed out that the nominator had removed content from the article before nominating it for deletion based upon the article missing the content he had just removed![3][4] Notice, how the editor deleted the trivia under his IP, then nominated for deletion under his user name? Might not have been caught if the editor had not posted the AfD banner at the same time he deleted the content. I gave him a vandal warning on his talk page to alert other editors of the issue.

If you get a chance to even add one well-written paragraph from a single source to this article (Steven Krilis), please do--it was some of the worse crap I've ever seen on Wikipedia. You may be busy with end of the semester work, and the article can wait. However, I think it could be enhanced by a bit of work from you. I did, as usual, remove most of the worst of it.

There is also a musician article that I found that was pure crap, that needs some research done--I removed most of the worst of it. I really don't have much knowledge even about the musicians I listen to (my son provides me with rap music that he thinks I will like, which I do listen to, but don't pay attention to the artists), but think that this is an area in which Wikipedia can serve better. If you can look at this article and do anything about it when you find the time, please do Ithaka (musician).

KP Botany 22:11, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wow, you really did clean up those David Krilis and Ithaka (musician) article; excellent work. Sure, I'll do what I can on them. The David Krilis article looks like it's going to survive the AfD, and one of the users on their is saying she might even do some work on the article. That will help a lot. As for Ithaka, I'll look that person up when I can. Unlike the Paul Sadler guy, at least these people aren't joke articles; there are sourced for these two. Acalamari 23:11, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Boink!
