Hi there. I see that you edit Russia-related topics. Come check Portal:Russia/New article announcements and Portal:Russia/Russia-related Wikipedia notice board. You may even want to add these boards to your watchlist. Cheers, Ghirla -трёп- 12:39, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

Gala Dali

Hi, thanks for your reply. My problem is with the definition of the word "model". The term is generally understood nowadays to mean a fashion model, glamour model or "porno" model. When referring to an artist's model it is necessary to use the full expression "artist's model" in order to avoid a misunderstanding. In effect, the meaning of the word "model" has changed over the past several decades.

The category Russian models, as I said in my comment, contains only fashion/glamour/porno models. All the subcategories of category Models appear to be the same. I consider the work and lives of, and the nature of readers' interest in, artist's models to be sufficiently different that including artists' models within the Models hierarchy is unhelpful to users of the encyclopaedia. It would be better if there were another term to describe what artists' models do, but I can't think of one. At the very least, artists' models are always going to be a small subset of "models", so including them in that category would not be helpful to users seeking other examples of models of either type.

The Gala Dalí article is a member of another category, Artists' models, which is not currently subdivided because there are so few members of the category. This category is not within the Models hierarchy but instead within Visual arts occupations.

If you really want to add Gala Dalí to Russian models I won't revert the edit again, but I do think it's inappropriate.

I'll copy this discussion to the talk page of Gala Dalí in case others want to add their thoughts. Charivari 00:19, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. As a member of the Wikipedia community, I would like to remind you of Wikipedia's neutral-point-of-view policy for editors, which you appear to have violated at Leonid Brezhnev. In the meantime, please be bold and continue contributing to Wikipedia. Thank you! --omtay38 06:26, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

Much better. --omtay38 07:58, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

Hello I have been working on the two Lossky articles. I would like to make an entry on sobornost as well as sophiology. I was hoping for some help with an English version of this sophilogyarticle. Can you help? Please? LoveMonkey 15:03, 16 September 2006 (UTC)

Ergonomics Linkspam

Please do not add commercial links or links to your own private websites to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising or a mere collection of external links. You are, however, encouraged to add content instead of links to the encyclopedia. If you feel the link should be added to the article, then please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. See the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you. Ergonomics is currently tagged for External link cleanup. If you feel your contribution has been unfairly removed, please join the ongoing discussion. --Ronz 18:12, 18 September 2006 (UTC)

Sir, the link you have deleted refers to UGS Corp. product - Jack - ergonomics and human factors software that helps improve the ergonomics of product designs. I do think there is value in that link for readers of Ergonomics page. I do not have any association with UGS Corp.. Please do not accuse me or anyone else in "commercial links" or "linkspam" unless you have some basis for that. Best wishes. User:Abune 20:26, 18 September 2006 (UTC)
Please read WP:SPAM and WP:EL. I'm not accusing you of anything. If you feel I am not following suggested policy as detailed in those articles, let's discuss this further. --Ronz 03:22, 24 September 2006 (UTC)

Battle of Vyazma

Hello,

I see that you linked -- or tried to link -- a Russian language source to my article on the "Battle of Vyazma". Can you tell me more about that? Thanks.

Kenmore 01:08, 29 October 2006 (UTC)kenmore

Sir, first of all let me congratulate you on excellent article you created -"Battle of Vyazma". Yes I linked Russian language article which I created to yours. Your presentation is far superior compared to what I did. There is an historical anecdote on why Kutuzov failed to support Miloradovich in full force. Allegedly in Miloradovich headquarters someone failed to put request for reinforcement into envelope and so Kutuzov received an empty envelope and so precious time was lost. Do not know if this is true anecdote or complete fabrication. Also it may be worth to have title as Battle of Vyazma (1812) because there has been at least three more during WWII in 1941, 1942 and 1943. Sincerely,User:Abune 01:58, 29 October 2006 (UTC)

Abune:
Thank you for your kind words...I am flattered that Russians think enough of my article to connect it to Russian Wikipedia.
Please note that I am refining the article on an ongoing basis...I am especially working on making the language mechanics (sentence structure, paragraph structure, clarity of narrative, etc.) better. On a day by day basis, certain small changes are being made.
Yes, I am aware of the "empty envelope" anecdote. My understanding of the story is that Miloradovich and Ermolov knew before the battle that Kutusov would try to discourage them from fighting Davout, as Kutusov was a very cautious general. The story that I heard says that Ermolov and Miloradovich deliberately put an empty note into the envelope to Kutusov, in order to keep Kutusov from being aware that they were getting ready to attack the French the next morning. Supposedly Miloradovich and Ermolov laughed as they gave the letter to their messenger.
Kenmore 00:12, 1 November 2006 (UTC)kenmore
Why, don't we add this anecdote to the article? --Ghirla -трёп- 12:29, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

Northern Crusades

Hello Abune! I noticed your addition of a timeline to Northern Crusades a few months ago. Looking into the situation more closely, the information was copied directly from this external link. With Wikipedia:Copyright problems in mind, I have removed the text from the article. The actual information, of course, is accessible through the page history or through the external link itself. Cheers, Olessi 19:17, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

Olessi, I just like the idea of timeline and my plan was to edit it down the road, but... As I recall I did put reference there, but timeline itself was not quoted as you rightfully pointed out. Anyhow may be we can start timeline anew. User:Abune 21:05, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

I merely moved it and added category. I bearely have idea of what happened there - I'm not interested in miltary history. So I fear that I don't have enough knowledge to help you improve this article, perhaps you might try to find some help on WP:BSNB or Wikipedia:WikiProject Latvia (the project is new, however). I can't provide you images because I also am very far from Litene and images found on web will be copyrighted, however I can help you with Latvian language if you need (I translated the article as you asked) ---- Xil/talk 17:30, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

Alleged Constellation 3D hoax at COMDEX

Recently, a user with an IP address is Israel removed some of your comments from the Constellation 3D article, referring to an alleged hoax the company perpetrated at COMDEX. If you have a citation for this claim, please re-add the text with a reference. Thanks. --38.96.133.11 15:05, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the note. I looked again at the article and I don't see how I can improve it. As to the COMDEX 2000 hoax (fact or not) I read about it here http://portable-apps.subiectiv.com/portable.php?title=Fluorescent_Multilayer_Disc This link also claims that "a new company called D Data Inc. was formed which acquired the entire patent portfolio of Constellation 3D in 2003. The company is determined to bring multilayer optical disc technology to the market, and so has introduced the technology again under the new name of Digital Multilayer Disk (DMD)". I found out about this company when was "googling" for the meaning of abbreviations C3D and CDDD. Respectfully User:Abune 23:02, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

Abune, I need your help Will you look please at [2]? dima 20:44, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

dima! I understand your concern in this particular case as well as in many others (too many to list here). Obviously too many participants in Russian wikipedia openly promote far right, xenophobic, nationalistic, pro-Stalinist views and so forth. If you can't take it just switch to English wikipedia. I definitely will not recommend to engage into polemic and "editorial wars" with opponents like this. Just keep editing and keep creating new articles. These people will drain your time and creative energy. Ignore them. From time to time I do make comments on user pages, but it's only when I have nothing to do. Luckily I'm fairly busy. I use wikipedia for relaxation after work and as a recreational tool. Also I think that references are extremely important, since at the end of the day no one can fight good references. I also try to stay away from articles covering second half of 20th century - mainly because these objectionable characters tend to be interested in it. That's their time horizon. I do not want to discourage you, but really wikipedia is not a blog to argue with someone.User:Abune 23:15, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

Umibozu (wiki)

A {{prod}} template has been added to the article Umibozu (wiki), suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. August 2008

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, your addition of one or more external links to the page Edward Lucas (journalist) has been reverted. Your edit here was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove unwanted links and spam from Wikipedia. The external link you added or changed is on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia. The external links I reverted were matching the following regex rule(s): rule: '\bblogspot\.com' (link(s): http://lettonica.blogspot.com/2007/05/edward-lucas-interview.html) . If the external link you inserted or changed was to a blog, forum, free web hosting service, or similar site, then please check the information on the external site thoroughly. Note that such sites should probably not be linked to if they contain information that is in violation of the creator's copyright (see Linking to copyrighted works), or they are not written by a recognised, reliable source. Linking to sites that you are involved with is also strongly discouraged (see conflict of interest).

If you were trying to insert an external link that does comply with our policies and guidelines, then please accept my creator's apologies and feel free to undo the bot's revert. Please read Wikipedia's external links guideline for more information, and consult my list of frequently-reverted sites. For more information about me, see my FAQ page. Thanks! Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity

Hello. I noticed you have edited the electromagnetic hypersensitivity article in the past and thought I'd suggest a possible addition. VBS.tv recently produced a short documentary on the topic. If this interests you, it can be see at www.vbs.tv/watch/motherboard/the-electrophobes Please let me know if you think this would meet Wikipedia standards for an external link or possibly as a reference for the current entry. Thanks! CorridorX (talk) 22:44, 22 June 2009 (UTC)

  • Indeed this TV documentary is rather interesting and in my view it's OK to use it as reference in the article. However by no means it's scientific video, it's just rises questions and shows some people passionate about it. On top of that wikipedia spam filter blocks it. May be something like that can be found on Youtube User:Abune (talk) 02:20, 23 June 2009 (UTC)

You are now a Reviewer

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 02:21, 18 June 2010 (UTC)

Hello. Concerning your contribution, Moscow Symphony Orchestra, please note that Wikipedia cannot accept copyrighted text or images obtained from other web sites or printed material, without the permission of the author(s). This article or image appears to be a direct copy from http://www.moscowsymphony.ru/en/about/about.html. As a copyright violation, Moscow Symphony Orchestra appears to qualify for deletion under the speedy deletion criteria. Moscow Symphony Orchestra has been tagged for deletion, and may have been deleted by the time you see this message.

If you believe that the article or image is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under the Creative Commons Attribution/Share-Alike License (CC-BY-SA) then you should do one of the following:

However, for textual content, you may simply consider rewriting the content in your own words. While we appreciate contributions, we must require all contributors to understand and comply with our copyright policy. Wikipedia takes copyright concerns very seriously, and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. Thank you. CactusWriter (talk) 00:17, 9 September 2010 (UTC)

It appears that article in question has been deleted within about a minute of you posting your message. The text of deleted article has been modified in order to avoid copyright violations per Wikipedia policy. However due to luck of information about this orchestra on the web article was essentially single-sourced. Since my text was lost due to super speedy deletion little what I can do to remedy the situation. Notable orchestra will be not mentioned in Wikipedia at all - I think this is a loss that could have been easily avoided. User:Abune (talk) 00:35, 9 September 2010 (UTC)

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Imperial Philanthropic Society, and it appears to include material copied directly from http://www.encspb.ru/en/article.php?kod=2804009344.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.

If substantial content is duplicated and it is not public domain or available under a compatible license, it will be deleted. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material. You may use such publications as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. See our copyright policy for further details. (If you own the copyright to the previously published content and wish to donate it, see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials for the procedure.) CorenSearchBot (talk) 21:49, 21 February 2011 (UTC)

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on InvenSense, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Phearson (talk) 01:09, 11 March 2011 (UTC)

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being minor in the usual way.

For power users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. With the script in place, you can continue with this functionality indefinitely (its use is governed by WP:MINOR). If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 18:03, 15 March 2011 (UTC)

There are two Snake Rivers in Alaska, one near Dillingham and one near Nome. This article contains a mixture of information which appears to refer to both rivers as being one and the same. The one near Nome is the more notable, due to its proximity to the city of Nome, as well as for historical mining activity which has occurred within its drainage.RadioKAOS (talk) 21:08, 15 October 2012 (UTC)

Grandfather Mountain

Hello Abune,
I was wondering what your recent citation, in the article Grandfather Mountain, is intended to support. The webpage it directs readers to does not appear to state the distances between the profile trail-head and the park office. Could you clarify why you thought this was needed?
Thanks,
Sparkgap (talk) 20:02, 9 November 2015 (UTC)

It is reference to profile trail, otherwise it is not clear what is it ;-) User:Abune (talk) 21:48, 9 November 2015 (UTC)

Okay. I see now.  :) Somehow I didn't notice the article lacks a list or description of the mountain's trails. I think I'll add them under the section Access later. It appears a little too travel-guidish as currently written anyway.

County infobox images

Thanks for adding images to several US counties. Why are you changing the image size, and not leaving the 200px default? Thank you. Magnolia677 (talk) 15:59, 28 August 2017 (UTC)

I'm using this Template:Infobox_U.S._county Just found out that indeed it is mentioned somewhere deep down the description "default" 200px. May be I should use it indeed. However no justification given why "default" is better than any other size. So I'm not changing default I'm just picking up size that looks good from my personal prospective. You are welcome to change size if you feel my selection is not optimal. User:Abune (talk) 18:06, 28 August 2017 (UTC)

MOS:IMAGES states "as a general rule, images should not be set to a larger fixed width than 220px", and the reason for this is given a few places on that page. 300px in an infobox is too large. Thank you. Magnolia677 (talk) 20:42, 29 August 2017 (UTC)
Thanks for your advice. Will try to stick with 220px. User:Abune (talk) 20:46, 29 August 2017 (UTC)

Hello, Abune. I wanted to let you know that I’m proposing an article that you started, Corps Guestphalia Halle, for deletion because I don't think it meets our criteria for inclusion. If you don't want the article deleted:

  1. edit the page
  2. remove the text that looks like this: {{proposed deletion/dated...}}
  3. save the page

Also, be sure to explain why you think the article should be kept in your edit summary or on the article's talk page. If you don't do so, it may be deleted later anyway.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions.

Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks!

Hello,

Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at the English Wikipedia.

I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!

From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.

If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org.

Thank you!

Article translations

Hi! Thanks for creating articles like Palace of the Reich President. However, please be advised that you need to denote translations from other Wikipedias explicitly per WP:TFOLWP for attribution and copyright purposes. Also, when translating, please avoid machine translations. For a good translation, you need to be fluent in both the original and the target language; machine tools are no substitute for that. Even if they can produce what may look like a passable result, it inevitably has problems and leads to mangled mistranslations, incorrect syntax, and sentences which make no sense.
