Klaus J. Behrendt (born February 7. 1960 in Hamm) is a German actor. Since 1992 he has starred in the Westdeutscher Rundfunk version of the popular television crime series Tatort.

Life and education

Klaus J. Behrendt grew up in the Westfälian town of Ibbenbüren. Der gelernte Bergmechaniker nahm nach Ableistung seines Zivildienstes von 1981 bis 1984 Schauspielunterricht an der Hamburger Schule Hedi Höpfner . A trained mechanic, after completing his community service from 1981 to 1984, he took acting classes at the Hamburg School Hedi Höpfner. As an actor at the Playhouse in Bremen, he appeared in plays such as Danton's Death, The Seagull, A Midsummer Night's Dream and Three Sisters.

His television career started in 1989 with a role in the television series Red Earth II. From 1995 to 1997 he played in the Sat.1-series AS in the role of private detective Alexander Stein.

Behrendt gained wide popularity beginning in 1992 to 1994 and again since 1997 for his role as investigator Max Ballauf in the crime series Tatort of the Westdeutscher Rundfunk - first as an assistant to Commissioner Flemming in Dusseldorf and later with his colleague Commissioner Freddy Schenk (Dietmar Bär) in Cologne. In der Tatort Folge 234: Schimanskis Waffe war Behrendt bereits in einer Nebenrolle als Erwin Spilonska zu sehen. In Tatort episode 234: Shimanski's Weapon, Behrendt also appeared in a supporting role as Erwin Spilonska.

In the Sat.1 television production The Miracle of Lengede, Behrendt was seen in the role of a miner to his original profession. In the spring of 2005 he played in the ZDF TV series Chancellor of the Federal Chancellor. 2006 spielte er mit seinem Kollegen und Freund Dietmar Bär in Der Untergang der Pamir , ein zweiteiliges Katastrophen-Drama zum Untergang des deutschen Schiffes Pamir , bei dem vor allem junge Matrosen starben. In October 2000 Klaus J. Behrendt and Dietmar Bär received the German Television Award as best actor series of 1999 for their roles in Tatort.
