The Blake family of Ontario, Canada is a prominent family of politicians, lawyers, historians and clergymen that traces it origins to County Wicklow, Ireland. The Reverend Dominick Edward Blake belonged to an ancient and influential Anglo-Irish family that had been one of the 14 Tribes of Galway.[1] He married Anne Hume of Humewood Castle, and their sons Dominick Edward and William Hume were both educated at Trinity College before immigrating to Upper Canada in 1832. Dominick was an Anglican clergyman who was instrumental in shaping the structure of Church of England in Canada. William became a successful lawyer, and later involved himself in politics as a Reformer. His loyalty to the government during the Upper Canada Rebellion made him a valuable ally to the Reformers in their advocacy for responsible government, and by the 1840s he had emerged as an important leader within the movement. In 1848, he was elected to the 3rd Parliament of the Province of Canada as a Reformer.

William Hume Blake was the father of Edward Blake, who served as Premier of Ontario from 1871 to 1872
