From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This MOS is an attempt to distil the information that should be included within club season articles. It is not an attempt to give guidance as to how to lay out articles with regards to order of information or whether to use tables or templates for differing sections.

General advice

[edit]

Club season articles should be limited to the first team of the club and not any development league team or youth team. If there is an associated ladies team it is up to the editors to decide as to whether it is notable enough to be included, excluded or have an article of its own.

It should go without saying that all information should be reliably sourced and should have prose describing any information included in tables or templates.

Article introduction

[edit]

At the top of the article include information on the following

  • The club
  • The season that it is for (eg. 2104-05)
  • The competitions that the team are involved in (leagues and cups)
  • Major incidents during the season (controversies, managerial changes)
  • an Infobox Football club season template

Information from the build-up to the season

[edit]

Within the article you should include information that gives context to the start of the season. This should include details of

  • The details of the previous season which have an impact on the season in question (eg new manager, relegation/promotion, financial meltdown).
  • Transfers in, transfers out, released players
  • A description of the pre-season including fixtures

Information for individual competitions

[edit]

Within the article you should include information that details the club progress through each notable competition that it is involved in. This should include

  • A link to the main article for the competition season
  • A description of the progress through the competition. This could be broken into stage or month where this aids readability
  • Fixtures / results

For league competitions

  • A league table (or slice of league table where there is a large number of teams in the league)
  • Results by matchday
  • Results summary

Information relating to the aftermath of the season

[edit]

Within the article you should include information which details both the short term and long term impact on the club including

  • Whether the club was relegated/promoted/qualified to particular competitions
  • Any financial information which is pertinent
  • Whether the season resulted in major transfer activity in the following transfer windows

Statistics

[edit]

It is right that statistics are included in a club season article but these should be limited to those that can both be reliably sourced and justified when challenged by Wiki Project:Football

Things to include

[edit]
  • A table of goalscorers
  • A table of appearances, goals, cards
  • An overall competition record
  • Other reliably sourced stats (eg scored most/least goals in the league, number of home/away wins/defeats in a row)

Things not to include

[edit]

Statistics in general

  • Squad lists with ages/signing dates/number of appearances
  • First 11
  • starting formations
  • Penalties scored/conceded
  • Assists
  • Starting 11 for each match

When describing individual matches

  • Yellow/red cards
  • Missed penalties
  • Substitutions
