A Booster Juice located in Ancaster, Ontario.

Booster Juice is Canada's largest chain of fresh juice and smoothie bars.[1] The chain specializes in health-conscious smoothies composed of a pure juice, fruit sorbet or vanilla frozen yogurt, frozen fruit, fresh yogurt and ice. Founded in 1999 in Sherwood Park, Alberta, the company has grown to have 249 traditional and 36 non-traditional locations in Canada, 18 in India, 6 in the United States, 5 in Mexico, and 2 in the Netherlands. Further global expansion is planned, despite established competitors Jamba Juice and Smoothie King in the US.

Booster Juice utilizes the franchise business model, with the head office owning fewer than 1% as corporate stores at any one time.

The smoothies offered by Booster Juice come with a choice of "boosters", or nutritional additives such as protein, echinacea, fibre, and other products such as ginseng or rosehip.

Some drinks offered by Booster Juice contain less common food products, including Matcha, Açaí fruit, a Brazilian fruit produced by the Acai Palm, and Wheatgrass.

Company History

[edit]

Dale Wishewan and Jonathan Amack founded Booster Juice in 1999 when they realized the need for juice bars in Canada. Prior to opening the first Booster Juice, Wishewan tested the idea at his home by offering smoothies to family and neighbours.[2] Shortly afterwards, the first Booster Juice location opened in November 1999 in Sherwood Park, a suburb of Edmonton.

Booster Juice expanded rapidly to include different parts of the country, with the bulk of its stores located in Western Canada. Encouraged by this success, Wishewan and Amack have entered international markets in Europe and the Middle East.[3]

Today, Dale Wishewan is the president and CEO of Booster Juice in Canada, while Jonathan Amack holds the same responsibility for the company in the United States.[4]

Booster Juice has developed a mission statement which focuses on providing their customers with a healthy fast food alternative that fits an active lifestyle. The company describes its stores and products as being energetic, fun, natural, and addicting. It also emphasizes the freshness of its food offerings.[5]

[edit]

Booster Juice takes pride in offering fresh smoothies to its customers. It classifies the smoothies into eight categories, including high protein smoothies, berry smoothies, and tropical smoothies among others.[6]

The company also offers nutritious juices, different food servings like paninis, and shakers such as Wheatgrass.

Awards

[edit]

Booster Juice has received several awards and recognitions, most notably breaking the record for the world's largest smoothie and entering the Guinness World Records book in 2006.

The company has also been presented with the award for the "Top Fresh Juice & Smoothie Bar Chain" in every major Canadian city.

Internally, the company's CEO in Canada Dale Wishewan received the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award 2005. That same year, the company received several awards for franchise marketing.[7]
