Justice Opelamina Derefaka hails from Okrika in Rivers State. He is a Marine Engineer and a Sustainable energy advocate. Derefaka is currently the Technical Adviser on Gas Business & Policy Implementation to the Honorable Minister of State, Petroleum Resources, Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources (Nigeria). He is also the Program Manager; Nigerian Gas Flare Commercialization Programme (NGFCP) [1][2][3], a program designed to implement the policy objectives of the FGN for the elimination of gas flares, with potentially enormous multiplier and development outcomes for Nigeria[4][5]. Derefaka also served as the Head, Environment and Social Performance at Shell Petroleum Development Company[6]. He is happily married with three Children.

Education

Derefaka studied Marine Engineering at Rivers State University and graduated in 1999. In 2005 he obtained a M.Sc. in Environmental Management from the University of Lagos. He has a second master degree in Sustainability leadership from the University of Cambridge. In 2017, Derefaka received a Doctorate in Business Administration from the University of Bradford.
