Stago is a company in in vitro diagnostics industry, specializing in the exploration of hemostasis and thrombosis. Headquartered in France since its founding in 1945, the company is one of the largest manufacturers of hemostasis system[1] and hematology testing wolrdwide.[2][3]

History

[edit]

Stago was founded as a pharmaceutical laboratory in the aftermath of World War II in 1945 by Jacques Viret to market a solution that facilitated digestion and addressed liver disorders.[4]

Since the early 1960s, Stago has been actively involved in the rapid evolution of the in vitro diagnostics sector.[4][5]

Stago's U.S. subsidiary was established in 1985, followed by the creation of other subsidiaries in Americas, Asia and Europe.[4]

In 2010, Stago acquired a large portion of the coagulation product manufacturing business of the Irish company Trinity Biotech[6], which is listed on Nasdaq. Stago then held a 30% market share in coagulation.[7]

In 2012, Stago is ending its collaboration in the field of coagulation with Roche, after 40 years of partnership.[8]

In 2017, HemoSonics joined Stago, bringing expertise in point-of-care testing.[9] Hemosonic is a category award winner in the 2023 Medical Device Network Excellence Awards sponsored by MD&DI.[10] Hemosonics received FDA clearance for its Quantra HemoStasis System, which expands Quantra’s use cases to include liver transplants and trauma.[11]

In 2018, Stago introduced Stago STA R Max, a fully automated solution that enable diagnostic personnel to effectively conduct both mid- and high-volume coagulation tests in medical laboratories.[3][12]

Activities and products

[edit]

Stago markets more than 350 products[8] like antifibrinolytic drugs, desmopressin, immunosuppressive drugs, vitamin K supplements, blood thinners, thrombin inhibitors, thrombolytics, and replacement therapies, among others.[3]

Stago is also a certified training center[13] and invests heavily in research and innovation to develop reagents, systems, and solutions.[14][15][16] Stago is represented in more than 110 countries and is a member of the French Syndicate of In Vitro Diagnostic Industry and is committed to France's autonomy in the field of in vitro diagnostics.[17]
