User:AutomaticStrikeout/Golden Editor

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Golden Editor Award is presented to Wikipedia editors as a recognition of their contribution to the encyclopedia. There is no specific criteria that determines one's eligibility for the award. However, most recipients will likely have accumulated a sizable amount of quality participation here in some form or other. The recipients are determined by myself (User:AutomaticStrikeout), but other editors are encouraged to submit nominations via email. Only one Golden Editor Award will be presented in a given day (based on my time zone, not UTC), but this does not mean that the award will be presented every day.

History

[edit]

I have desired to run a program of this nature for a while now, and have finally decided to do so. This will enable me to return to editing and hopefully avoid controversy while benefiting others in the process. Some original possible names for this award were the Accomplished Editor Award or the Recognized Editor Award. When the phrase "as good as gold" came into my mind, it led me to the name of Golden Editor Award. Frankly, I think it just sounds better.

You may have noticed that this program is similar to one operated by Gerda Arendt (and others before her). I wish to make it clear that my efforts are not intended to hinder her's in any way. She has done a remarkable job of recognizing the work of others and I am now working alongside her, not against her, in this effort.

Nominations

[edit]

If you have thought of one or more editors who you think should be presented with the Golden Editor Award, you are welcome to nominate them, but please do so by emailing me via the "Email this user" function, not by leaving a note on my talk page. I would prefer not to be inundated by a bunch of nominations from the same nominator, so please use your best judgment in determining how many nominations you should provide at one time, if you are going to make multiple nominations. Also, please provide a reason for why you feel the nominee should receive the award. If I choose to recognize your nominee as a Golden Editor, I will tell them who nominated them unless you inform me that you wish for the nomination to remain anonymous. Please don't be offended if I decide not to give the award to your nominee(s).

Of course, you can always recognize the editor yourself in many different ways: by using barnstars and others forms of WikiLove, personalized awards (such as this one), or even a friendly note. If you like my project, you might also be interested in WikiProject Editor Retention. In fact, that project has a spectacular subproject that gives out the Editor of the Week Award, which has already brought joy to many users. Also, these are a couple of essays that I have written which are also geared toward encouraging other editors. Finally, here is a link to my personal Hall of Fame, which is not currently being updated.
