First param to always take year

[edit]

The current version where the first parameter can be a year or a link is very confusing, and inconsistent for all it matters. I propose to change it to take year in the first param and link, if set, in the second param. The same applies to {{CE}}DaxServer (talk · contribs) 09:11, 20 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Pinging @Gonnym, unless you are already watching this template — DaxServer (talk · contribs) 09:12, 20 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah that makes sense. Since the year is a required parameter, it should be 1. Required parameters should always come before optional parameters. Gonnym (talk) 10:11, 20 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Primefac Would you be able to make the changes and lend your bot? Thanks! — DaxServer (talk · contribs) 10:42, 20 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
No, because there are only 118 uses, but I can do a run with AWB manually to update them.
Just to double-check/verify, for any instance where there exists a second positional parameter, the first and second parameters should be switched? Additionally, is there any opposition to making the (new) second parameter |link= for clarity? It should help clean up the code in the template a bit as well. Primefac (talk) 11:45, 20 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
No opposition. A shared /core template could also be used for both templates so minimize code duplication. Gonnym (talk) 11:49, 20 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, both |link= and a /core template sound good! — DaxServer (talk · contribs) 11:58, 20 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Done, though some sort of /core template makes no sense because they are literally a single line of code. Primefac (talk) 12:38, 20 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
