Peerreviewer recommendations for further improvement

[edit]

The following suggestions were generated by a semi-automatic javascript program, and might not be applicable for the article in question.

  • The lead of this article may be too long, or may contain too many paragraphs. Please follow guidelines at WP:LEAD; be aware that the lead should adequately summarize the article.
  • Consider removing links that add little to the article or that have been repeated in close proximity to other links to the same article, as per WP:MOS-L and WP:CONTEXT.
  • Per WP:CONTEXT and WP:MOSDATE, months and days of the week generally should not be linked. Years, decades, and centuries can be linked if they provide context for the article.
  • Per WP:MOS, avoid using words/phrases that indicate time periods relative to the current day. For example, recently might be terms that should be replaced with specific dates/times.[1]
  • There may be an applicable infobox for this article. For example, see Template:Infobox Biography, Template:Infobox School, or Template:Infobox City. (Note that there might not be an applicable infobox; remember that these suggestions are not generated manually)
  • This article may be a bit list-weighty; in other words, some of the lists should be converted to prose (paragraph form). [2]
  • Please alphabetize the interlanguage links.[3]
  • This article is a bit too short, and therefore may not be as comprehensive as WP:WIAFA critera 2(b) is looking for. Please see if anything can be expanded upon.
  • This article needs footnotes, preferably in the cite.php format recommended by WP:WIAFA. Simply, enclose inline citations, with WP:CITE or WP:CITE/ES information, with <ref>THE FOOTNOTE</ref>. At the bottom of the article, in a section named “References” or “Footnotes”, add <div class="references-small"><references/></div>.[4]
  • The article will need references. See WP:CITE and WP:V for more information.
  • Please ensure that the article has gone through a thorough copyediting so that the it exemplifies some of Wikipedia's best work. See also User:Tony1/How to satisfy Criterion 2a. [5]

JOTA/JOTI/JOTT

[edit]

Should we merge these articles? Horus Kol 08:27, 20 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support Yes, good idea: merge into this article. The three articles are either very short or have hardly any surplus information. Perhaps in the future when someone really gets into it, an separate article either one of these topics can be pulled out, if needed. For the time being, the meagre information would well fit into this World Scout Jamboree article. Wim van Dorst (Talk) 21:37, 20 September 2006 (UTC).[reply]

I've moved JOTA into the World Scout Jamboree, and have now marked the original Jamboree on the Air article for deletion - Discussion. Will work on the others at next opportunity Horus Kol 09:42, 22 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, so all the information from the Jamboree on the Air, Jamboree on the Internet, and Jamboree on the Trail is now in the World Scout Jamboree article. I marked JOTA and JOTI for deletion when I had done them - some admin decided to have JOTA redirect to the main article, but a different admin decided not to lost JOTI... would be nice for some consistency, eh? So - my question - what do we do about JOTI and JOTT? Horus Kol 08:45, 25 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Easy: if they're deleted: recreate them as redirects. If they're still there: remove all text and make a redirect. You don't need a admin for that: just make redirects (they're cheap). And for full correctness mark on this talk page that you merged those articles into this article. Wim van Dorst (Talk) 18:47, 25 September 2006 (UTC).[reply]
    • Okay - thanks... i'm just never sure how far to go... Horus Kol 07:46, 26 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
      • Be bold but not reckless. Have you now included all information from the three separate articles into the one WSJ article? Was there so little info in them? All the more ground to simply include it in this overall article. Wim van Dorst (Talk) 08:35, 26 September 2006 (UTC).[reply]
        • bold but not reckless okay... as for the articles - the JOTA and JOTT articles were only a couple of paragraphs, and there is more info in the main one now than there was in there... JOTI was deceptive, as it contained a lot of the general history of Jamborees/World Scout Jamboree/JOTA and only a paragraph that was specifically JOTI - hence my merging of them. Horus Kol 09:16, 26 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
          • I have updated the JOTA segment of the article to be accurate to the 2006 JOTA report and the current promotional materials that WOSM offers. (Complete with references) I could go back and give you several years worth of participation data, but I don't know if that is too much information. If I did that, the article in and of itself may be complete enough for it's own treatment. I will ask the group for their guidance. Please leave me information on my talk page with your thoughts. RobHoitt 01:39, 27 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestion: Move the JOTA/JOTI/JOTT sections into the Jamboree (Scouting) article --SakJur (talk) 20:04, 5 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:2002le1k.jpg

[edit]

Image:2002le1k.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. 3rd World Scout Jamboree

[edit]

In the history section it states that the number of participants at the 3rd World Scout Jamboree was 50,000 ("the permanent contingent who remained for the entire event"), but in the list of events it states that the number of participants was mere 30,000. /Natox 09:49, 1 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I also noticed this.. I searched for this number, but I didn't find any reliable sources. If anyone can, I would be pleased to know. Thx. 20:13, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
This Jamboree had a number of Auxiliary Camps in the surrounding area, mostly of British Scouts. Hence with these included the total was around 50,000. This was the total often quoted, but the 'official' figure has been revised to just those attending the main camp, thus making the Centenary one the Biggest! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.84.167.168 (talk) 18:24, 4 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image issues

[edit]

Per discussions at WT:SCOUT, the use of non-free logos in lists is not an acceptable use. All of the WOSM logos are used elsewhere; the WFIS logos are a problem, as they are used only in this article. --—— Gadget850 (Ed) talk - 10:02, 24 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Suitability of additional data?

[edit]

First of all, given the recent unsourced addition. Does anyone believe that the location of the 25th WSJ in 2023 will be decided anywhere other than the 40th World Scout Conference in August 2014 in Slovenia? Secondly, would information on the other bidders for the WSJ be appropriate either here or at World Organization of the Scout Movement#World Scout Conference (as well as all of the declared bids (like Korea) for the 2023 WSJ which will be presented in 2014?)Naraht (talk) 15:53, 1 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It is not appropriate to list bids. We should should just include the successful bids. --Bduke (Discussion) 22:09, 1 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I think there are events where it is appropriate to include all bidders like the Olympics, so I thought I'd throw out the idea...Naraht (talk) 00:39, 2 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I am not that convinced about the Olympic bids, but at least there is a lot of public discussion of them. Do we have references that show that people outside the World Committee are discussing the Jamboree bids? Do we even have reliable sources for all the bids. --Bduke (Discussion) 00:56, 2 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Host Candidate Countries

[edit]

There should be a column in the table for Host Candidate Countries, as there is at World Scout Conference.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 21:43, 26 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

split JOTA, JOTI and JOTT

[edit]

Because these are yearly events and do not coincide with the quadrennial WSJ, they deserve a separate article.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 14:56, 14 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Agi~cswiki

[edit]
@Agi~cswiki:
  1. per Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Icons#Inappropriate use, which was cited in my edit summary, the flags should not be added-the Scouting WikiProject frequently has to remove them from articles
  2. it is bad form to remove existing sources in favor of your own. If your sources are good, add them, but don't remove the old sources
  3. it is bad form to rewrite large sections of existing articles-your text should fit in to the existing text, not overwrite it
That said, I believe you are a dedicated Scouter, and your hard work is appreciated, if you will work with those editors who have been working on these articles for years, and not against them--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 13:58, 23 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
