More to come

[edit]

Have to take a break to get some business done but there article is very much in its infant stage. Over the next couple days I will be adding sections explaining more about the purpose of vine training (such as the negative impacts of excess shade), explain the parts of the plant involve (cordon, spurs, buds, etc), classification of different training systems (spur vs cane, divided vs undivided canopy, unilateral vs bilateral, etc) and go into more detail about some of the more popular training systems (Scott Henry, Cordon, Guyot, etc). • BTW, if anyone more code savvy wants to take a crack at making the table look nicer, by all means. This was the best that my very limited coding skills could achieve. Also, if anyone is wondering why some of the training systems do not have benefits or disadvantages it was because the sources really didn't talk about any and I didn't want to inject any WP:OR in. I only includes the ones that the source touched upon. Eventually we'll find some sources for the others. AgneCheese/Wine 03:40, 2 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Update I've finished most of my "to-do" list except for going into detail about particular systems. At 27k+ this article is already a good size and I'm hesitant about adding more info that may get lost. On the flip side, I'm curious as to many vine training system, beyond a handful, would merit more than a stub's worth of content. For the time being I'm going to redirect all the individual vine training systems listed in the table here and play it by ear. If someone wants to take a crack at writing articles for some of the "biggies" like Scott Henry, Cordon, Guyot, VSP, etc that could possible have full fledged articles written about them then feel free. If we start getting a rash of stub articles created on different systems then we may need to come back to this. AgneCheese/Wine 23:33, 5 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Wow Agne - excellent work!! What do you think about a good article nomination?--Symposiarch (talk) 12:33, 24 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Well personally I think the GA programed "jumped the shark" in terms of usefulness. I won't nominate the article or deal with the process but if anyone else wants to play their game, feel free. I just don't think there is much value in it. AgneCheese/Wine 18:50, 24 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

confusing

[edit]

This sentence is very confusing. It does not make sense to call spur pruning cane pruning.

Conversely, spur trained vines are "cane pruned" — Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.103.184.76 (talk) 20:12, 4 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The first link in the article is broken, and the article is not available on the Wayback Machine. I have deleted it, but a replacement citation from elsewhere would be nice.BruceThomson (talk) 07:01, 28 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
