Killed in Action

[edit]

The war criminal is dead. Liquidated near Kharkiv when his command center was overrun. Glory to Ukraine. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.20.156.67 (talk) 22:20, 7 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Killed was Vitaly G'mov, NOT Valery G'mov. Antisoapbox (talk) 22:54, 7 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Dead or not, he was last publicly seen in April. I believe this fact should be stated in the article as he is highly public figure in Russian government.

Please give then a proof with a link, if isn't they will count your request is fake and incorrect. NguyenLuuDatHuynh2008 (talk) 09:55, 23 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

He's alive (at least was in September 2022). It's just Putin doesn't like talking to him. https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/smiling-putin-inspects-big-far-east-military-drills-2022-09-06/

The Russian MoD site said he was a general of the army (ie 4 stars) at the weekend, but has Colonel General (3 stars) today. Secretlondon (talk) 19:05, 13 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Added info on doctorine

[edit]

Gerasimov doctrine The Gerasimov doctrine is a supposed plan for combined psychological, political, subversive, and military operations to destabilize the West.[1]

Onlyforwikiapps (talk) 21:46, 24 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

thanks for your comments, Whether the author says it exists or not, the man is best known for this doctrine, and many many people have written research articles on this. Please dont revert again. thanks. Onlyforwikiapps (talk) 05:18, 27 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
You should familiarize yourself with WP:BRD. If you have been reverted, it is best to discuss this on the talk page first rather, also see WP:ONUS. Also we have to be careful as this is a WP:BLP article. The other issue is you are not following what the source says. In the same source, he writes that this "plan" does not exist, so this very much seems like WP:CHERRYPICKING. Thanks. Mellk (talk) 20:31, 27 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Info on medals

[edit]

Doesnt Gerasimov wear the medal for the return of crimea to Russia?

Fired?

[edit]

Alexander Vindman says Gerasimov was reportedly fired from the General staff today.[1] I'll leave it to others to decide what counts as usable sourcing. 2601:648:8202:350:0:0:0:C115 (talk) 11:15, 28 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I think we have to wait until other sources confirm this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Marcorivignani (talkcontribs) 11:16, 28 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) I was about to self revert, I didn't notice til just now that the tweet is a day old, and Russia supposedly denies it. If it were legit we'd have something better by now. I think this section can be closed or deleted. Sorry. 2601:648:8202:350:0:0:0:C115 (talk) 11:20, 28 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Vitaly not Valery Gerasimov was killed in Ukraine 🇺🇦

[edit]

Vitaly Petrovich Gerasimov (Russian: Виталий Петрович Герасимов; 9 July 1977 – 7 March 2022) was a Russian Ground Forces military leader, major general, chief of staff and first deputy commander of the 41st Army of the Central Military District of Russia. Ukraine's Ministry of Defence claims Gerasimov was killed in Kharkiv Oblast during the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine.[1][2] When he allegedly died, he held the rank of chief of staff and first deputy commander of the 41st Combined Arms Army. Not to be confused with Valery Gerasimov, the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and creator of the "Gerasimov doctrine". 92.238.18.187 (talk) 11:43, 8 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

"Ah yes, the famous non-belligerent invasion of Ukraine"

[edit]

Introduction, second paragraph, last sentence, needs to be rewritten. The invasion of Ukraine is one of the most violent and unprovoked European conflicts in recent memory. While his strategies certainly seem to be involved in the war, if anything, they indicate that his doctrines *were* of a belligerent nature. 2607:EA00:107:3407:8441:A839:B424:3628 (talk) 16:47, 21 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I removed a rather sarcastic comment about this. We need a) reliable sources saying that Gerasimov doctrine is relevant in Ukraine and b) reliable sources pointing out the belligerent nature of the doctrine. Wikipedia deals in the verifiable, not in what's true.
The other option is that Galeotti's comments aren't important enough to merit inclusion, or at least not in the second paragraph, but I don't know enough to have an opinion on that. /Julle (talk) 19:37, 21 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Change Russian General to War Criminal

[edit]

There is a sufficiemt evidence, including UN sources, to update this profile to war criminal 67.201.80.10 (talk) 13:43, 12 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Until he is convicted of war crimes, no. Mellk (talk) 18:00, 12 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Does not have to be convicted - he just needs to be named in the RS's overwhelmingly so.

Not happening, until the reliable sources describe him so. Mathglot (talk) 19:13, 20 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Who is author of the Gerasimov Doctrine?

[edit]

art: "The author of the original paper, Mark Galeotti, claimed it was a speech"??? Does the article mean to say that the Gerasimov Doctrine is actually the Galeotti doctrine? What original paper? If it is GAleotti's doctrine, why is it called Gerasimov? (AltheaCase (talk) 00:06, 27 June 2022 (UTC))[reply]

Has anyone found a source for his religion?

[edit]

Since he comes from a region which seems to have a large number of those who follow Islam, it would be interesting to know if he is of Islam, Orthodox, or strictly secular in mind-set. (AltheaCase (talk) 00:11, 27 June 2022 (UTC))[reply]

whatever familial relations he might have had to any faith, pretty sure we can assume he's a secular agnostic 2603:6080:21F0:7880:1562:766:F6EB:342 (talk) 18:35, 11 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Dead

[edit]

Our princess is reportedly dead. https://www.newsweek.com/valery-gerasimov-dead-killed-crimea-attack-rumors-1858042 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:908:898:9780:BDF3:3E2F:6012:814 (talk) 12:49, 5 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

This is a Russian telegram channel, and the post has since been deleted. It could just as easily be misinformation, since its not an official channel. I would suggest the Wiki is updated to correct the mistake that Ukraine has claimed his death. 2601:84:8B02:2DA0:20F1:3510:6C3:D5B6 (talk) 19:59, 5 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
He isn't dead and there is now video of him handing out medals and congratulating soldiers that helped to take control of Avdiivka. Link to russian MoD official VK https://vk.com/wall-133441491_965614 217.208.87.120 (talk) 12:13, 21 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

No reliable source being quoted.

[edit]

The bias is so huge that the Pro-Ukranian editors are using Obiknovenniy Tsarism as a source to claim that he may be dead. Not even Ukraine confirmed that he is dead. So, the great Wikipedia is using Telegram as source ? lmao. Desaibsiaidepikiw (talk) 10:37, 10 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Have YOU seen him though? Has anybody who wants to talk about it? Do you have a WP:RS that he is alive? Does he hide in your crib? Please do tell, we are eagerly waiting!
Because after almost 2 months of no Gerasimov, the burden of proof is shifting towards those who claim that he is alive.
FWIW, the Strange Case of General Gerasimov is in marked contrast to Zaluzhniy going AWOL for 2 months around May 2023: There were no images or footage of staff or other meetings where Zaluzhniy should have been present, so we did have an absence of evidence. Whereas for Gerasimov, there has been quite bit of footage from meetings where he should have been, but some other ambulant medal rack was sitting where Gerasimov should have been sitting. This is as close to evidence of absence as we can expect to get without a robust confirmation of his death. 12:29, 14 February 2024 (UTC) 2A02:8071:5BD0:D4C0:0:0:0:7BA0 (talk) 12:29, 14 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Change minister in the infobox from "Sergei Shoigu" to "Andrey Belousov".

This change has already been applied to most pages in the English wikipedia and should be noncontroversial.
