Requested move 12 April 2018

[edit]
The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: consensus to move the pages at this time, per the discussion below. There is some disagreement on the disambiguators. I am moving "Theodemir" to Theodemir (Ostrogothic king) in light of the discussion and Category:Ostrogothic kings, and "Theodemar" to Theodemir (Suebian king) per Category:Suebian kings of Galicia. If there are any problems with these two disambiguators, please feel free to initiate a new move request at any time. Also, please feel free to assist in the creation of any appropriate redirects. – The individual pages are using obscure, arbitrary (and in at least one case, unprecedented) spelling variants of the same name as a means to disambiguate them. However, the chosen spellings are often not the preferred spelling for that individual, and are as likely to be used by someone searching for any of the others. Several pages of GB results, excluding duplications, show Theodemir about equally likely to refer to the Carolingian abbot, the Visigoth nobleman and the Ostrogoth king. This indicates none of the individual pages would represent the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC so that should be the disambiguation page, and each article page should use standard disambiguation rather than relying on arbitrary alternative spellings. The other spelling variants would be redirected post-move to the disambiguation page. Agricolae (talk) 08:20, 12 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support 1st/2nd; neutral/weak support 3rd/4th/5th. I strongly support those first two moves per nomination, but I'm a bit more neutral on the last three. Is "Theodemir" the most common spelling of the names of those last three? Paintspot Infez (talk) 12:22, 12 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
It is for #4, at least as far as I could tell. For #5, Wikipedia and sites derived from Wikipedia are the only places our spelling occurs relating to this man, and any mentions in English are few and far between. #3 & #4 both give Theodemir first, then give the page name as a secondary spelling. I would actually prefer Ostrogoth king, so how about contrasting it with 'Suebi king' (or we could follow monarchical convention and call the latter 'of Mercia')? Not a big deal either way. Agricolae (talk) 02:52, 13 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
