Survived deletion but...

[edit]

This is one of those articles that is notable enough to be kept but will almost certainly never be rewritten to meet the encyclopedia's standards. It's a shame that they get caught in the middle. --Impaciente 03:42, 10 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

History

[edit]

It would be great if someone who has any historical info (esp. someone who knows Jim/volunteers there) could add to this - think that would also help shift the tone. hotdiggitydogs 23:46, 25 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Picture

[edit]

This article needs a better picture, rather than have one of a band hanging out outside the venue, why not have one of the venue itself, or better yet, the stage. RiseRobotRise 20:28, 7 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Local Bands

[edit]

I removed the list of local bands who regularly play the Smell as it was becoming too much of a laundry list of bands who have some relation to LA and have played there. To improve the article quality I selected I few that I thought were pretty strong "Smell" bands but this may totally need some changing around. I think overall this will improve the article's quality - see the Che Cafe for a similar scenario which was occurring regarding notable bands who have played there. Like with the Che article, it may not be a bad idea to include a few more well-known bands who have played there. I also took out some venues in the 'See Also' list that did not have a very similar structure as the Smell and were also not located in Los Angeles. hotdiggitydogs 05:36, 5 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Would it be worthwhile to add a "in popular culture" category? I noticed that the recent animated film Monster House, the baby sitter was listening to had a ficticious punk band's "Live at the Smell" tape. 71.84.3.140 04:29, 2 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No, I don't think there's really enough to justify it. It could however go under a more general "trivia" section if there ever was one. The director of that film knows Jim Smith, the owner, which is probably where that reference comes from. hotdiggitydogs 01:25, 23 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
