For such an influential band, the page should be longer. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.71.44.163 (talk) 04:24, 10 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I will expand it when I am able to find the time. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.48.163.135 (talk) 01:45, 17 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
As mentioned below, I'm working on a much more detailed version of the article, offline. I'm currently up to the Question the Answers era and should be done soon. I'd post what I have already but there would be too much of a gap between what I have and the hiatus era already posted. John — Preceding undated comment added 07:36, 28 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
"Barrett's heart yearned towards 2-Tone ska which was in the tail end of its existance." This should probably be more objective - right now it's kind of flowery. --Matt 00:36, 30 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dicky fired

[edit]

What's the source on the "fired" claim? I'm a newbie and don't know the tag for "lacking source."

Dicky Barrett Speaks: "I Was Fired that Day" --Matt 22:21, 26 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I stuck the link into the article. All should be fine. NJZombie (talk) — Preceding undated comment added 22:30, 26 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Is it not worth mentioning that Dicky was fired from his job?Jacknife737 03:45, 28 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Jacknife737, it's absolutely worth mentioning. That's why it's already in the article. Look for the line... "He was also the host of the "Mighty Morning Show" on Los Angeles radio's Indie 103.1 FM until his dismissal in March of 2006"
As far as it leading to a reunion, people on a message board, wondering if the Bosstones are reuniting as a result, is hardly a source for speculation on a reunion as the two have nothing to do with each other. NJZombie (talk) — Preceding undated comment added 03:53, 28 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I added an external links section Jacknife737 04:18, 28 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Cool. Good work! NJZombie (talk) — Preceding undated comment added 04:26, 28 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately, Side One has no actual content on the band, and MySpace and random fan sites are not really appropriate wikipedia links. --Matt 04:31, 28 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not adding them back but sometimes MySpace pages and fan sites are the only sources left though for information on bands that have broken up. I don't see a big problem with the additions and have seen many entries with them. In fact, many bands are using MySpace pages as their official sites now. In the case of the Bosstones though, I think it's safe to say that nobody from the band is running it themselves, as the band doesn't even exist at this point. I'm staying out of the editing of the links but just wanted to throw my two cents in. NJZombie (talk) — Preceding undated comment added 04:35, 28 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Nofx, The Offspring, Rage Against the Machine all have fan pages listed under the external links. Secondly The Side One Dummy Page has tour information, booking info, ect The band has not broken up, therefore there is potential for additional information to be added. Side One Dummy is also the bands current official website it even mentions it under the Hiatus section of the article, so it should be there. As well there was a link to the bands letter to the fans with regards to their hiatus, that was located at punknews.org a credible site. So could someone please explain to me the neccisity for removing those for links from an already short page. Thanks Jacknife737 — Preceding undated comment added 04:41, 28 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
You can refer to this entry to see why some of those links may not be acceptable. As someone who knows a member of the band, it's safe to say the band is done. That's not to say there will never be a show again, but the band is not running the MySpace page. If anything, maybe someone at SideOneDUmmy is running it. The entry is short and I'm hoping to rewrite a lot of it with an article from the Goldmine newspaper that gives a very detailed history from the beginning to the release of Let's Face It. NJZombie (talk) — Preceding undated comment added 04:46, 28 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Cool, however my point is, that it mentions under the Hiatus section that the band's offical website is located at the Side One Dummy website, i just feel since the site is mentioned, there should be a link to it. Again the link to the letter that the band wrote about the Hiatus i feel is valid, but whatever.Jacknife737 04:55, 28 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well, do what you feel is right. After checking out the Side One Dummy site, I agree that it has enough content to be added. The worst that can happen is someone deletes it again. If you feel that strongly, try to find someone that will mediate the issue for you. NJZombie (talk) — Preceding undated comment added 05:22, 28 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I was not the one who added them again, but i'm glad that their back.Jacknife737 05:24, 28 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Edit to Reunion Rumours

[edit]

I've added to it since two new songs are on their myspace site - seems to have sparked more reunion rumouring. Porterjoh 12:06, 4 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Despite what Gittleman posted on the Myspace page, the two songs he put up are NOT new or unreleased. It's not like they got back together and recorded new music. I read the post. He didn't insinuate anything about a reunion of any type. NJZombie 11:39, 6 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I know, but it hasn't stopped people rumouring...I personally think there's something in it, but thats POV...however they ARE unreleased... Porterjoh 12:07, 6 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If the songs are unrelased, tell me how I've had them on my iPod for the past year. They may not have been on a full length CD but they HAVE been previously released. Chocolate Pudding was the b-side to the "Kinder Words" single back in 1994 and even appears on the Japanese edition of Question the Answers. "Meaning" is featured as a bonus track on the vinyl edition of Pay Attention. Rare tracks? Maybe, but they're hardly unreleased. NJZombie 12:31, 6 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No need to take the attitude with me, that's what Gittleman said, that's what the myspace says, and that's what I've said... Porterjoh 14:14, 6 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No attitude was intended. Sorry to hear you decided to take it that way. I've only stated the facts. I know that's what Gittleman said and I explained that he was wrong the first time I made the edit. I doubt, with the amount of music the band released, his ability to remember what non-album tracks got released and what ones didn't. NJZombie 15:32, 6 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Alright, sorry for being a bit snappish. Gotta say though that him posting them up has indeed sparked more reunion rumours...Porterjoh 16:39, 6 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Any time one of the former band members acknowledges the band, it seem to spark hopes of a reunion and from there comes the rumors. Nobody is debating that but Gittleman saying he hopes to see everyone soon, or however he phrases it, does not lend any real merit to there actually being a reunion. It just seems to be him saying that he'll eventually see everyone again with whatever his next project or band may be. To add people misinterpretations of his statement only fuels the rumors of a reunion. NJZombie 17:22, 6 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I guess. It's just a measure of the fact we all want em to come back though really, isn't it? Porterjoh 17:51, 6 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know. I love them and even know some of them personally, but once a band breaks up, it's pretty much over. I'd love to see them play a show here or there but I think the magic it would take for them to tour and make albums like they did, is gone. I'm happy with the material they left behind. People jumping on every mention of the band as a possible reunion gets kind of annoying. NJZombie 18:03, 6 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

He's added more today, is it worth mentioning at least somewhere? Here's what he said:

'Hey all
For the sake of keeping shit interesting I have posted a couple more "unreleased" songs (maybe B-sides...I don't really know)
Thanks

Other bands

[edit]

I reckon the Cardiacs were doing "Ska-core" well before these guys, these guys brought the style to prominence, but Cardiacs have albums predating the Bosstones existence (ie Seaside, obvious identity) - I suggest a re-jig of the page... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 61.9.215.101 (talk) 23:44, 22 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You can't understand the origins of the Bosstones without mentioning Chain Link Fence. That is the taproot of the band. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 155.41.153.42 (talk) 14:20, 30 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Bosstones or BossToneS?

[edit]

I'm not sure which is the official capitalization, but if it's the second one the article should be renamed. Michael 134.84.96.142 (talk) 21:36, 4 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's spelled Bosstones. BossToneS is a style choice for the logo and should not be reflected in the article title. NJZombie (talk) 16:23, 6 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Davey Holmes a member?

[edit]

There seems to be and on and off again debate over whether Davey Holmes was considered a full time member. It's been brought up in his own article that while early editions of Devil's Night Out listed him as one, the later editions corrected the information to list him as additional personnel. I'm more inclined to trust the updated information. Also, even if there are records to say he was on tour with them at that time, they doesn't mean he was considered a full member. Consider Mucky Pup who toured and recorded their first album with bass player they borrowed from another band and was never considered an actual member. When I revamped this article, a few years back, most the info was sourced from a huge detailed article and interview in Goldmine Magazine #469. In that article, I saw absolutely nothing pertaining to Davey Holmes as a significant player, or even a footnote, in the band's history. Considering that it's the most extensive history that I've seen written on the band, and it was done with the co-operation of the band, I think it's safe to say that he was NOT considered an actual member. I don't have the album handy right now but it's worth asking if he's even pictured in the group shot on the back of the album. Can anyone help with this? I'm not looking to shut down any attempts at adding additional information. I just want to make sure that it's correct and from what I can tell myself, it's not. NJZombie (talk) 08:43, 6 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

NJZombie, appreciate your looking for proper substantiation. Re: Holmes, I don't believe that reissues of albums (after 2 yrs of release and tens if not hundreds of thousands of sales) constitute a "correction". Change was a reflection of Holmes having left the band. Happy to post/email photos, publicity photos, set lists, etc. I don't believe any of the original band members would dispute this. Original releases had (for years) photo of Holmes on the back of Devil's Night Out; photo was changed along with credits later on. Regardless, I stand by my first assertion that later releases of an album do not constitute "corrections", simply substantiation that Holmes was (by that release) no longer in the band. Ellendipaglia (talk) 00:54, 16 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I too have an original pressing but don't have it handy at my present location to check the back myself. If I recall correctly though, Josh Dalsimer, who was the drummer at the time, is listed as such and I don't believe later pressings of the album "demoted" him to the additional personnel section just because he was no longer the drummer at the time the later pressings were issued. I could be wrong about this but it's worth considering. Once again, I don't doubt the guy played on the album or toured with them. My doubt is around whether he was considered an actual member. In all the history that I've read in the 20-odd years I've been a fan, I have yet to read about anybody named Davey Holmes being an actual member. Although he only played on one album, Dalsimer is frequently mentioned. They even pasted Dalsimer's head over Joe's on a later promotional shot that was added to the CD pressings of Devil's Night Out. Lastly, as far as keyboards go, there's barely any keyboard presence on the album for ANYONE playing them to be considered an actual member. I'm certainly not doubting that he made a contribution. I just doubt that he was part of what the band considered the core lineup at the time. I'm sure several msuicans came and went during that time, Holmes being one of them, while Barrett, Gittleman, Burton, Albert, Dalsimer, Bridewell and Ben Carr stuck it out. That's what happens early on with many bands. I think being listed in the additional personnel section here is suitable though and that it's all that's needed until a notable source can be found that states otherwise. That's my personal opinion though and I'm curious to hear what others have to say about this. NJZombie (talk) 22:54, 7 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I appreciate your thoughtful take on this. I may be biased as during the time I was regularly seeing the band play, mostly in Boston, Holmes was definitely considered a band member. (I remember Holmes also performed the rap with Dicky on "Haji".) But I don't recall how long this lasted, it may not have been long given how long this band has been around. You're right about Dalsimer's head being pasted in that shot! Hilarious. --Ellendipaglia (talk) 21:46, 10 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
