I added details on the film's release in Japan and its critical reception in the 1990s and more recently. The problem was that permission to do filming in Burma didn't come through until January 1956. When a roughly edited part 1 opened, Ichikawa was in Burma for a week filming. Of the actors Shoji Yasui alone went to Burma. I think we're getting the full movie with 116 minutes.
