Proposed deletion of Teresa Wong

[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Teresa Wong, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

Not verifiably notable.

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Hmmm I find it interesting that after multiple people have improved this page its now up for deletion. Also the quality of this page has been damaged twice by various pictures being removed, though I do not know why the one of her was (the album cover I can understand), but what can one do if publicity shots are not availible on websites that are in english? There are several photos of her here: http://www.jingo.com.tw/web/performer/teresawong/photo-index.htm will any of them do?

I'm not sure if "not verifiably notable" means that the information is not verifiable or that the person involved cannot be verified as being notable, but from the grammar used it seems to mean the latter. A quick search reveals her work on youtube http://www.youtube.com/results?search_type=&search_query=teresa+wong&aq=f (where she is the 1st and 4th result), and her work shows up on doezens of ringtone sites. An image search brings up pictures of her albums. Basically the best charge that can be laid on her notability is that she is not very notable in ENGLISH, however she is a published artist and her work is notable in the fact that the instrument she plays is from the Tang dynasty and therefore fairly unique. It was proposed for deletion a few days ago, but I removed the deletion proposal tag when I improved the article. It's not going to be deleted unless someone proposes it again.
About the images, Wikipedia requires images to be free content, meaning it should have no copyright or the author has licensed it under a free license like GFDL or CC-BY-SA. Unfortunately, it is not enough that the images is available free of charge on the website. There are some exceptions (WP:NFCC), but I don't think they apply in this case. Basically we need someone to take a picture of her and donate it freely.
I agree with you that she is notable, if not very famous in the west. I think the reason the article was proposed for deletion was that it had no sources. When you write an article, please add where the information came from at the bottom. It is especially important for articles about living people, as we have some problems with people inserting falsehoods. --Apoc2400 (talk) 08:47, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmm the problem is that all references seem to be chinese! Hehe if you look at what I originally posted its actually grown into something that can be rightly called a stub. Also this problem of being an orphan is due to misnamed articles! She actually appears in the article List_of_erhu_players but listed with a different name that then directs here. It seems the orphan tracker does not follow re-directs which seems to be a failing. I've corrected this. I'm also bugging the HKCO for more info on her and a free picture. We'll see. Oh, you can add Chinese language sources. Fewer can reads them, but some can. --Apoc2400 (talk) 17:59, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
