Include Gaff-In from All Stars 1?

[edit]

Does anyone have any strong opinions about whether or not to include the "Gaff-In" challenge from season one of All Stars on this page? I know the challenge wasn't titled "Snatch Game," but I think it could easily be argued that this challenge was the de facto "Snatch Game" of that season. The format was different and it parodied a different TV show ("Laugh In" instead of "Match Game"), but you could say the same for "Snatch Game of Love" in AS season 4. Personally, I would be in favor, but I would like hearing from others. Thanks! Yompi20 (talk) 02:33, 27 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Yompi20, I'm open to adding mention as long as we can find sourcing comparing "Gaff-In" to "Snatch Game", otherwise we're getting off topic and adding original research. ---Another Believer (Talk) 02:36, 27 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I think we should clarify that it was a different challenge where contestants had to impersonate celebrities too. About AS4, the format was different but it was still aired as Snatch Game. --Sebasdfghjkl (talk) 02:48, 27 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Sebasdfghjkl, Both good points. User:Yompi20, want to gather some sources for season 1 and see what may be possible? ---Another Believer (Talk) 04:19, 27 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Great points above, thanks! I'll poke around the Internet and see what I can find! Yompi20 (talk) 04:28, 27 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Yompi20 I found this source for AS1 (https://www.vulture.com/2012/10/rupauls-all-stars-drag-race-recap-season-1-episode-2.html) and this states it has a twist on the snatch game formula (https://tv.avclub.com/rupauls-drag-race-rupaul-s-gaff-in-1798174802). My opinion is we should not include it because, even if the AS4 format was different it didn't changed a lot from the original format and it had the name of Snatch Game on it, unlike AS1. The Gaff-In challenge was different from the Snatch Game even if the point was also to impersonate celebrities. I feel like Gaff-In is more of an acting challenge because the queens had to write jokes for different segments, and the impersonation was something to add more difficulty to it. --Sebasdfghjkl (talk) 04:34, 27 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Sebasdfghjkl You know, it wasn't until I read your comment that I remembered that there was no improvisational comedy aspect to Gaff-In, because all the jokes were prepared prior to the challenge. Although Gaff-In was similar to Snatch Game in that it was a celebrity impersonation challenge, this difference in the type of comedy I think means that the challenges are different enough that Gaff-In should not be included on this page. Thanks to you and Another Believer for helping me research and flesh out this idea. I'm on board with passing and not making this change. Yompi20 (talk) 04:42, 27 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Yompi20, Sounds good. Glad we discussed here. ---Another Believer (Talk) 04:46, 27 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Images?

[edit]

For illustrations, what about using Template:Multiple image in each section to show the winner and who they impersonated? Or, if there were 2 winners, images of them both. Perhaps some exceptions if there's repetition, but in general... ---Another Believer (Talk) 02:42, 27 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I think we should also include Adele's and Little Richard in Season 7--Sebasdfghjkl (talk) 03:31, 27 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Sebasdfghjkl, I don't think we need images of Adele or Little Richard. I'd prefer we keep focus on the queens/winners, not those who are being impersonated, when possible. ---Another Believer (Talk) 04:18, 27 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I haven't found a Stacy Layne Matthews and a Tatianna picture for Season 2 and 3. Shall we put just Britney and Mo'Nique? --Sebasdfghjkl (talk) 03:57, 27 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Sebasdfghjkl, I just added an image of Spears before seeing your note. Too bad there is no image of Tatianna yet. ---Another Believer (Talk) 04:00, 27 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Reception

[edit]

It would be a good idea to include what media outlets have thought of Snatch Game so far, and maybe also celebrity reactions?? I found this article about Snatch Game, but we can find more (https://www.intomore.com/culture/what-makes-for-a-great-rupauls-drag-race-snatch-game) --Sebasdfghjkl (talk) 04:04, 27 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Sebasdfghjkl, yes, both good ideas. ---Another Believer (Talk) 04:17, 27 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
But, should these types of claims should go in their respective seasons, or be collected at the bottom of the article? ---Another Believer (Talk) 04:26, 27 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe the celebrity reactions could go on their respective seasons, and about reception i think it should go on the bottom of the article and we can collect sources from the reception overall the challenge and not only the episodes from the seasons. it depends on what we can find online --Sebasdfghjkl (talk) 04:36, 27 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Sebasdfghjkl, Yes, ok, perhaps their will be some episode-specific coverage in their respective sections and general commentary on "Snatch Game" as a whole at the bottom. We'll see. ---Another Believer (Talk) 04:47, 27 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Names of celebrities

[edit]

I still have my doubts on Valentina's portrayal of Season 9 as it is shown in the game as Miss Colombia, not as Ariadna Gutiérrez, same as Pearl's Big Ang, Naomi's Tiffany Pollard and Joslyn's Teresa Giudice. Should we keep it formal or as the cards on the game? Sebasdfghjkl (talk) 05:27, 27 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Table width consistency

[edit]

@ECW03: Curious, can the tables/columns be made consistent widths? This way the page looks more consistent as you scroll down. Thanks so much for your work on this article, and welcome to WikiProject RPDR! ---Another Believer (Talk) 15:30, 5 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know how to make the column widths the same for all the tables or if it is possible but agree it would look much better. I look forward to helping out with the project where I can! ECW03 (talk) 15:38, 5 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thoughts on merging subsections and tables?

[edit]

I think, at least in some cases, we should be able to merge subsections and tables. Look at Snatch_Game#Drag_Race_Thailand, for example. This could easily be a paragraph of text plus a single table with all details for both seasons. The same applies to many other sections. This would reduce the length of the page and number of subsections. Thoughts? Concerns? ---Another Believer (Talk) 22:30, 4 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Germaperry01 and Dominikcapuan: The U.S. section is looking much better! Looking forward to seeing this format replicated for the other series, too. By the way, I've removed the images of celebrities for which there's no corresponding image of the contestant. ---Another Believer (Talk) 15:56, 5 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Question: Is there a reason the U.S. All Stars table has the column headings multiple times (Season, Guest interviewer, Contestant, Impersonation, Result)? ---Another Believer (Talk) 16:01, 5 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, I see now. "Guest celebrities" vs "Guest interviewers". Perhaps we could replace with simply "Guests" so the multiple headings aren't necessary? ---Another Believer (Talk) 16:04, 5 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your kind words! I just fixed the UK and Italia tables just to let people have an idea of the clarity that these tables give to the page. Hope you appreciate it! Germaperry01 (talk) 16:12, 5 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

This page looks so much better without all the season subsections. Thanks for your work here, Germaperry01 and Dominikcapuan! ---Another Believer (Talk) 23:21, 5 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Cell merging

[edit]
Thanks! I think there are more opportunities to merge cells, too. For example, in U.S. season 14 there are 7 BTM cells in a row. Also lots of SAFE cells in a row. Should these be merged or kept as individual cells? ---Another Believer (Talk) 16:19, 5 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Contestant order

[edit]

Since we're overhauling the page, I wonder if we can discuss contestant order. Right now, seems winners of each season are placed on top, and BTM/Elim are placed on bottom. Safe are in the middle. But, perhaps we should simply display the contestants names in alphabetical order, instead of sorting by TOP/SAFE/BTM. Thoughts? ---Another Believer (Talk) 16:21, 5 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I can't even tell how Canada season 3 is sorted. I think we should either sort by season alphabetically, or by order of how they are seated on the panel. There needs to be some consistency here. ---Another Believer (Talk) 17:09, 5 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

"referred to as" notes

[edit]

Is there a reason for the "referred to as XXX on the show" notes? This does not seem necessary. Users simply need to know the contestant names as used on the shows. Thoughts? ---Another Believer (Talk) 17:02, 5 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use image?

[edit]

I wonder if adding a screenshot (under fair use) to demonstrate the challenge format would be appropriate for the lead. Rusical has a screenshot collage. We could either add a "Snatch Game" title card or a screenshot of the panel from a specific season, to show readers how the game is played. Just throwing out ideas here... ---Another Believer (Talk) 17:07, 5 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Episode citations?

[edit]

Should the tables have episode citations?

For example, should U.S. season 2 have "2[1]" per Template:DragRaceProgressTable/2? ---Another Believer (Talk) 17:26, 5 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

References

  1. ^ "The Snatch Game". RuPaul's Drag Race. Season 2. Episode 4. February 22, 2010. Logo TV.

Would be easy to add these. Clutters up the tables a bit, but at least the content is sourced. ---Another Believer (Talk) 17:26, 5 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

As far as I can tell, every "celebrity" impersonated by a queen in RPDR, RPDR:AS and DR Canada has a page on wikipedia (specifically enwp). This doesn't appear to be true for some of the other incarnations, especially Thailand. But I am finding some on Drag Race Italia & Netherlands that have pages, so I'm checking them as well.Naraht (talk) 19:21, 7 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

New skin

[edit]

On my laptop, the new skin creates tons of white space for this article. For most sections, I see a long column of images on the right-hand side of the page before seeing tables.

What are some solutions here? Decrease the table width so images can fit? Remove the images altogether? ---Another Believer (Talk) 17:13, 1 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

"Most frequent impersonations"

[edit]

If the "Most frequent impersonations" table gets too long, we might consider cutting to people impersonated 3 times or more. ---Another Believer (Talk) 20:27, 15 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

This is a late response, but I agree that it would probably be best to cut it down to three-time impersonations or more. Given that there are so many two-time impersonations, it does not seem as notable as it used to be, and it would make the list easier to navigate for readers.
