Opening of Maternity Hospital

[edit]

I have raised a citation need over the statement Princess Alice, Duchess of Gloucester opened the Maternity Hospital because the identity should be checked (possible from local newspaper files of the time; is there a plaque of the opening naming her?) I was long under the impression it was Katherine, Duchess of Kent, who had also visited Shropshire hospitals during the same decade.Cloptonson (talk) 09:12, 4 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Origins

[edit]

There has been a hospital at the site since WWII when a Copthorne Military Hospital was built on the south side of Mytton Oak Road opposite the site of the present Maternity Hospital and RSH buildings. After the war it was taken over by the new NHS as a general hospital in what were hutted buildings linked by corridors, called simply Copthorne Hospital. This site, known as Copthorne South, was in use until the 1990s as far as I remember (from experience of being a patient and having relatives etc also patients). I encourage those with firmer information to add this with due citation.Cloptonson (talk) 15:56, 29 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
